who; Dominique Weasley and Phoenix Malfoy
when; October 21st, after classes
where; Outside the Great Hall and then the Hogwarts grounds
what; A walk
rating; TBA
status; In progress

After a rather confusing weekend -- or at least it looked confusing now, once she had stopped being in love with Jasper Finningan -- Dominique was glad to have her feelings back to normal; and to see that her real -- and secret -- crush was still there and hadn't changed. She really didn't know what had happened to her in the last forty-eight hours, but she hoped it never happened again.

Closing her journal after reading Phoenix's last comment, she got up from her bed and went to take a quick look in the mirror. She had to make sure she looked good before meeting Phoenix -- or any other boy for that matter. She brushed her hair with her fingers, smoothed her skirt and shirt, and she was ready to go.

It took her less than five minutes to reach the Great Hall, and now all she had to do was wait for him.

Dominique flipped her blonde hair gracefully over her shoulders and turned toward Phoenix as soon as she heard and recognized his voice. Giving him a small smile, she shook her head. "I just got here. You didn't make me wait."

For a Malfoy, Phoenix wasn't so bad. She had heard so may stories about his father and her uncles she imagined the Malfoy siblings and all the Weasley clan would continue the tradition and hate each other. But she was surprised when she found out Phoenix wasn't like his siblings. There was something different about him; he was still a Malfoy, but he was... nice.

"Let's go, then?" She asked, gesturing toward the grounds.

If Dominique would ever mention to Phoenix that she found him 'nice', he probably would be appalled. It was a good thing then that the young Weasley kept her thoughts to herself. Phoenix wasn't pleasant, or overly sociable. In fact, he's quite far from them. But he was not judgemental, and doesn't allow himself to be overly influenced by what other people think. Some might call it 'stubborness', but he'd rather rafer to it as 'strength of character'.

Of course he has heard about the feud. Ever since he could remember, he had been told to keep his distance from anything overly-freckled and red-haired. Dominique was neither of those things, save from the light dust of cinnamon freckles on her nose, of course. They were the only things that gave her lineage.

Phoenix nodded once, then again when she asked if they should go. He started walking, taking slow steps so he was sure she could keep up. "I'd like to thank you for offering to keep me company." he said, the corners of his lips crawling up subtly into a hardly noticable smile. "It's not that I don't fancy a walk alone." he explained. "I merely deem it... more enjoyable when your with company." The pair reached the bottom fo the steps, then started crossing the Hogwarts grounds. "I trust your day was pleasant?"

Dominique shook her head lightly as they made their way out of the castle. "There's not need to thank. It's my pleasure." She replied, glancing at him and noticing that barely perceptible smile, which made her lips curl into a small but much more noticeable smile than his. "I know what you mean. Sometimes walking alone feels nice, specially if you want to think; but it's certainly more entertaining when you have company." It felt nice talking to him. He was well mannered and polite, so different from most of the other boys at school.

"It was, yes. I didn't have any classes today so I finished the homework I didn't do over the weekend," -which was most of it, since she could only think of Jasper- ", and relaxed in the common room for a while." She explained. "What about your day?"

Phoenix nodded solemnly, noting candidly the way she smiled at him. "Exactly." he said. "I suppose you can say it's one of those days where I'd rather be amused than serious. I don't think that's too bad."

He listened intently as she spoke, his darting ever so often at her direction so he could note her mannerisms. When she asked him, he allowed silence to pass them so he could think of what to say. "I spent most of my morning in class, though not doing anything too strenuous." They were walking down the path that led to the lake, a fact which does not seem to be registering to him at that moment. "And I can't seem to shake off the awful feeling of regret over not eating during lunch. I'm famished." He stopped then, when he saw the long stretch of water as they arrived near the lake. His hand reached out to lightly touch her arm. "I... I'd rather we take the path up the Pitch."

"It's not. Not at all." She said, glacing at him. It was perfectly normal to want to spend sometime with someone else and enjoy their company, specially when it was a pleasant company. Like now.

Dominique wasn't paying attention to where they were heading, as she was focused on what he was saying; but she guessed they would end up near the lake because that's where most student went to. It's where she went to. There was something about that place that relaxed her, and she often went there to think or just enjoy the rare sunny days. "Maybe later we could go to the kitchens? Unless you think you can hold until dinner."

She have gim a curious look when he stopped, but didn't ask why he didn't want to go to the lake. Instead, she smiled and gave him a nod. "That sounds good to me."

Phoenix had steered clear of the Lake, or any body of water at all costs since his third year. He found it neither relaxing nor comforting- in fact it gave him a tremendous amount of discomfort being even a foot away from the Lake's edge. It was due to an accident where he almost drowned in his early Hogwarts years that was the root of his fears, of the now cold fist tightening around his chest. He could feel Dominique giving her a look and he told himself to act as if he didn't notice. "Kitchens. Right." he managed to say steadily, as they turned and trudged back up the grounds, his fingers lightly still touching her arm, as if to make sure she didn't insist on turning back. "A little food in my stomach would be good. I doubt it will ruin my appetite for dinner anyway."

When they had reached the path leading to the picth, he noticed the gravel under his feet were more coarse, making the path slightly tricky to walk on. Thankfully, she hasn't asked about why he didn't want to cross to the lake. It would have been most embarrassing if he had to admit why. "Do you play Quidditch?" he asked, curious in a way as his eyes reached the goal hoops at one end of the arena. He was just making conversation.

Dominique wouldn't ask about why he didn't want to go to the lake, even if she was a bit curious to know why. It wasn't her business and if he wanted to tell her, he would; so why push the subject? "Then we can go after the walk." She smiled, liking the feeling of his fingers touching her skin lightly.

"Oh no. Quidditch is too rough and dirty for me." She replied, tucking a lock of blonde hair behind her ear. "And I don't really like flying." She hated it, actually. She wasn't scared of hights or anything, but she didn't feel safe on a broom while standing 50 feet over the ground. "But I like to watch it. It's a very entertaining sport."

A nod was given at her words. "Don't you have any plans for later today?" he asked, mildly curious, and gently took his hand back when they were clear out of the lake. "I was forced into agreeing to attend this football match of sorts later today." His tone was neither cruel nor bitter; he even looked as if he didn't mind too much at all.

Phoenix eyes roamed the area thet surrounded them, though listened intently to her words. Reaching one hand, he plucked a leaf from a hanging branch, and started playing with it between his fingers. "I have no interest in the sport. I never did, even though I heard my Father used to play for his House Team as a Seeker." he started consideringly, looking at her occasionally. She was quite stunning, he had to admit. "I have watched it though in the world cup, though I get bored easily. I do, however, have no protests against flying. I happen to remember I did like playing with my toy broom when I was younger. Did you have one of those?" All the kids in their time had them, or at least that's what he knew of.

Dominique shook her head lightly, running a hand though her blonde hair. "Not really. I was just planning on relaxing until dinner time." She answered. "Oh, that doesn't sund like much fun; especially if you're forced to attend."

She nodded as he spoke. "Most of my Uncles played for their House Team too. And my Aunt Ginny too." She loved her aunt Ginnt, but she couldn't understand why the world would she have wanted to play that sport that was definitely for boys. Girsl shouldn't get dirty or hurt playing a game. She nodded again at his next question. "I did, but I never really played with it. I'd much rather play with my dolls and my older sister. Like I said, flying has never been one of favourite thinsg to do." She said with a chuckle. "Although I suppose if someome taught me to appreciate flying, I could like it better."

Curious eyes followed the gente motion of her delicate hands through her pale hair. "I'd rather not think of it too much." "I might just change my mind, and Id rather not disappoint a friend. Plus, I am a man of my word, even though sometimes sticking to one's promises can be quite a chore." he said, his eyes looking down, a smile finally breaking through his features. It showed the small dimples on his cheeks, one that a lot were not aware that he possessed.

Again, Phoenix listened carefully when she spoke, his eyes darting from her to the the path in front of him ever so often, unaware that he was moving closer towards her with every step. "I've always thought that women playing sports are quite striking." he said with an elegant shrug, the lightest shade of pin staining his cheeks upon admitting such. "i truly don't understand why, given that my mother has often disapprove of, in her words, such unlady-like behavior. She sort of shared your mother's perspective in such a thing, I suppose." he raised one hand and drew his robes closer against his neck at the slight breeze.

"So. You have an older sister, you say?" Phoenix asked, with the same tone of mild curiosity. At this time, they had both entered the pitch, which seemed quite uninhabited at that time of the day. He reached one hand in offering as they climbed the stairs. "How many siblings do you have?"

"That's very respectful, keeping a promise even if you don't like it." Dominique said, looking at him and noticing the smile and the -- very adorable, according to her -- dimples.

"You do?" She asked a little surprised. Never in her life she would've thought that a Malfoy could think girls playing Quidditch were quite striking. She actually kind of liked it.

She nodded at his question. "Victorie. She's seven years older than me." She answered as she took his hand and started to climb the stairs. "I have two. Victorie and Louis. He's in your House, though a year above you." Dominique guessed they must at least have crossed each other's path sometime in their common room.

After taking a few steps, she stopped and tug at his hand lightly. "I have a better place to go. Less boring than the pitch." She said, her lips curling a small mischievous smile.

There was an air of complete confidence between them that Phoenix somehow couldn't ignore. Their conversations, though light were pleasant, and it was not a regular occurence for the young Malfoy to have such a thing. "Its a promise made to a friend. Those are a priority. Besides, I am guessing she will have every opportunity to make it up to me if it was too awful..." A small smile.

At her question, his gaze sharply moved to her. "Is it too surprising?" he asked, though looked as if he himself was wondering why he had admitted such a thing to her.

Her warm hand laid lightly on top of his palm as they climbed the steps, though he was only half aware of this. "I've heard of Louise Weasley, I think." he said, slight uncertainty in his voice. "I have an older brother, Scorpius, and a younger sister, Athena. Both Slytherins." He suddenly stopped when he felt a slight tug at his hand, and his gaze darted towards her direction, his eyebrows raising in question. After she spoke, closed her hand around his and started to pull him back down the bleachers, it took a second before he realized what was happening. He followed her, curiosity filling his chest, but at the same time all the mystery was leaving him excited- certainy leaving him interested. "And where might this mysterious place be?" he asked her.

Dominique nodde dhonestly. "A little bit, yes. But not in a bad way, though." She said with a smile, brushing a lock of hair away from her face. One had heard so many stories about the Malfoys, it kind of made anyone get an idea of them that might be wrong; like Phoenix had just proved to her. She had always though he would be one of those stuck-ups who didn't like girl playing on their team. But he had totally proved her wrong.

"I've heard of them." She said, looking up at him. Who hadn't heard of Scorpius?

She shook her head lightly as they made their way down. "It wouldn't be mysterious if I told you where we go, would it? Besides, didn't you know that curiosity killed the cat?" Dominique smile at him mischievously and once they were back on the ground, made her way out of the pitch; still holding his hand, though she hadn't realized of it yet.

Phoenix's eyebrows drew together in wonder as he looked at her. "How come?" he asked. He wondered if he projected himself as someone who liked the defenseless sort of girls? Wouldn't that be a bad thing? Not that he gave anything other people said into any real consideration. "My father admires my mother's strong nature. I suppose I got it from that."

It wasn't too much of a surprise to him that his siblings were quite known in school, so he acknowledged her words with a small, curt nod.

Phoenix could only smile admiringy at her comment. "Are you saying you have plans of killing me?" he asked then, amusement apparent in his tone. "Then lead the way, Dominique."

Dominique shrugged lightly. "First wrong impressions, I think. But I glad I was wrong." She smiled at him. "So does my father. My mother is a very strong woman." And she admired her so much. "Maybe it's because she's French and part Veela." She chuckled.

She couldn't help but smile back when he smiled. He had such a nice smile; he should definitely smile more often. "Oh, I haven't thought about it. Maybe later if I find you too annoying." She said jokingly, chuckling lightly.

Just like he told her, she led the way out of the pitch and toward the only place they could go in the direction she was heading: The Forbidden Forest.

At this, Phoenix merely nodded and said nothing, having always been subjected to judgemental stares all his life and was by this time, too used to it to be bothered or surprised by it in any way. When the other had mentioned she possessed veela blood, he looked at her as if in wonder. "Veela blood?" he asked, though wondered why he was suprised given she had the trademark pale features of one. "I hope this might not be too bold for my to inquire..." A pause. "But have you ever used your veela powers for evil?" His expression remained as passive as ever, not giving away the fact that he was kidding immediately, until he finally smiled.

"Then I suppose I would have to find out jus how far I can push you without taking you too far." Phoenix joked, then looked at her sidelong. After a few moments, he found her leading him through an unfamiliar path, then not too long after, he found the twoof them entering the Forbidden Forest. "Nice choice." he commented, his hand tightening protectively just a little against hers. "I heard the scenery is quite pleasant here during the spring. I should build a summer home in this location, surely..."

"Mhm," she replied with a nod. "My great grandmother was a Veela." She said proudly. She loved it that there was Veela blood in her family; it made feel special -- noy to mention incredibly beautiful. "It's not too bold and just when I'm too lazy to do my homework." She answered, a smile appeared on her face a few seconds after she spoke letting him know that she was also joking. She didn't like to use the Veela in her to get the attention of boys; it wouldn't be real. She wanted boys to like her for her, not because of some atraction that she created.

"Thank you." She smiled happily at him as the entered the forest. Her cheeks blushed lightly when she felt his hand tightening a little against hers, though she looked away and pretend to be looking around so he wouldn't see. "Oh yes. And the neighbours are quite charming." She chuckled softly, looking back at him.

"I find that completely fascinating." Phoenix said, more than mildly curious now. "Does this mean you consider it as cheating if you did use your Veela charms?" Their hands swung lightly between them, and for a second, Phoenix looked at their linked fingers with surprise, almost as if it was only then that he realized what was happening. He looked away, however, before she turned to him. "Which you have claimed you haven't, is that correct?"

"Quite. Friendly folks, I've heard." Phoenix agreed with a solemn nod. "And the view. Nothing in comparison to Venice, or Paris." he stated. It was darker then, which he found quite strange since it was so clearly sunny before they entered the forest, and there was that lingering feeling crawling over his skin that left him slightly unsettled. His doubt and hesitations never showed, however, and he continued to walk beside her, thought he did pull her towards him protectively. "It would be a good investment, don't you agree, Miss Weasley?"

He found it fascinating? Really? Dominique had never came across anyone who found the Veela charms fascinating and ask her about them. They just wanted her to use them on them - males, obviously. "I think so. The Veela blood in me it's part of who I am but it'd still be wrong if I used it to cheat or get some boy's attention... And yes, it's correct." She said with a nod.

"Yes. Paris surely doesn't have a dark and mysterious," -and slightly spooky- ,"feeling like this place does." Anyone who entered the forbidden forest was bound to feel some fear. It was dark, creepy and the mere thought of all the dangerous creatures that lived in it give you goosebumps. BUt even if Dominique might be a little scared, she was brave and wasn't going to let a forest scare her. She wasn't a Gryffindor for nothing, after all. But when she noticed how he pulled her closer to him, she did feel a little more relaxed and protected. "A very good investment, yes." She smiled, chuckling lightly.

Phoenix remembered being told when he was very young that there were rumors of hybrid blood popping in and out of the Malfoy Family tree through the years, though this of course was something he didn't look too much into. It was interesting however, he thought as they navigated their way through the uneven soil, the thought of possessing extraordinary abilities beyond the capacity of a normal wizard. "That's admirable. Some people would have probably used such abilities to their advantage. Can someone tell if you're using them though?"

"Too true." he agreed with a nod. "Might have some protests from my father, considering even he had warned me against the forrest, though I don't see how he could possibly summon such hatred for such a fabulous place." They had passed through thick vined tree trunks until they had stepped into a clear landing. Phoenix was about to start walking again, when he stopped. PInk lips opened slightly in an O of surprise atthe sight before his eyes. In the far distance, through the cluster of trees was a unicorn, a creature with skin that was white as winter, and almost glowed in the slight darkness. It was beautiful. His hand tightened against hers, as if silently requesting her to stop and stay silent. "Tell me I'm not the only one seeing this." he whispered.

"Oh of course. I'm quite sure my great grandmother used it to marry my great grandfather." Dominique laughed softly, her cheeks blushing pink. She paused for a moment to think, a small forwn appearing on her beautiful features as she pondered his question. "I'm not sure. But I think they can't tell, at least not while it's working. I don't know about later, thought." She was enjoying all those questions; she had never thought too much about her Veela charm, just that it was there and she could use it whenever she pleased. Those questions made her think of how it worked and its effects on other people.

"My father never warned me agaisnt it, just to be careful. There are dangerous creatures here after all. But I think if we don't disturb them they shouldn't disturb us, am I not right?" She was loking around as they walked, taking notice of the different shape of the trees and any creature that could move through them. She was about to take another step when she felt Phoenix's hand tighten around her. She turned to him with a curious expression on her face and opened her mouth to ask what when she followed his line of vision and she saw it. The most beautiful creature in the word was right in front of them and oh Merlin, it was just perfect. "You're not." She said, almost mouthing the words instead of whispering them.

Phoenix laughed lightly when she had spoken of her grandmother. "Does he know she used them?" he asked. "I wouldn't be too sure how someone would feel about falling in love with someone that way. It wouldn't seem right..." If he would be asked how he would feel if such powers would use on him, he would feel violated. "Not to judge anyone or anything." he added.

"I suppose you're right. If I were a creature in these woods I wouldn't truly care if someone wanted to have a look around. What I would mind is if they started aggravating me in any way. So yes, you're right. It's all about give and take."

His breath was literally taken away by the sight before him. Never had he seen something so beautiful that he was left humbled, and felt as if he was even undeserving to see such a thing. When she assured him she also saw the creature, he was relieved At least he wasn't crazy. He took one step forward, intending on getting closer for a better look, when his foot suddenly stepped on a twig, snapping it in half, a crisp sound that echoed through the still forest. His eyes casted down for barely a second, but when he looked up, the creature was gone. "I... I'm sorry." he said, though he wasn't sure what he was apologizing for. "Did you see where it went?"

She shrugged, chuckling softly. "I have no idea." She replied. "Oh, I feel the exact same way. If a boy falls in love with me, I want it to be because he loved the real me, not whatever the Veela charm made him believe to love. It'd be a very empty relationship if it was solely based on the powers."

She smiled at him and gave him a little nod. "Exactly."

Domonique was truly mesmerized by the unicorn. She had always heard Veelas were the most beautiful creatures in the world, but they were worng. The white and silvery creature before them was much more beautiful than any Veela. And much more breathtaking. She jumped lightly when the twig snapped, turning to Phoenix to see what had caused it. And she when looked back, the unicorn was gone. "I didn't... But I guess it went deeper in the forest." She replied. "Wow, I've never seen anything so beautiful." She said with a smile.

Phoenix nodded lightly in response to her words. "As would I." he admitted.

Phoenix was suddenly filled with an unexplainable feeling of regret, though it was diffcult to pin point why exactly. Perhaps if he had not been greedy for a closer look, he would perhaps be gazing at the beautiful creature now. Another concern for him was ruining that moment for his companion. who seemed as if she was as stunned and humbed as he was. His gaze drifted to her when she spoke. "Perhaps." he said, his lips forming a straight line, though corners of his mouth upturned when she smiled at him. "It was." Suddenly, he felt a bond between him and Dominique, one that was thin and fresh but he could tell it was there. He wondered distantly if she felt it too. "Do you believe the unicorn was trying to tell us something?" he asked. "I have heard those creatures do not show themselves so readily to humans."

Phoenix shouldn't be worried about ruining the moment for Dominique. Sure she would've loved to look at the unicorn longer, even get closer to touch it (they did prefer a woman's touch after all); but she was happy with what she had got and she wasn't going to complain. On the contrary, she would owl her mother as soon as they were back at the castle to tell about what they saw.

Yes, she had felt that bond too. She had been fleeing something was happening between them as they walked and talked, realizing they had a few things in common, similar ways of seeing things and just a good conversation; but it was now more evidently to her. "Oh, maybe. I believe nothing happens by coincidence; there's always a reason behind it. Sometimes it's clear to us and other times we have to think and work hard to figure it out; but there's always a reason."

Even as Dominique smiled brghtly at him, Phoenix could not help but feel embarrassed of his actions still. Though of course, this was something he couldn't allow himself to show. Gently, he released her hand on his side, then moved to pocket his hands in his robes instead. He kept their closeness however, just because he wouldn't want the other to suspect or notice something was wrong. Her words however, caught his attention and his face turned slowly towards her. "I agree with that." he said, nodding his head slowly. "It might not make sense why the things occuring now are happening, but in time we will come to understand why. And perhaps in time we would discover why the unicorn showed itself to us." He wondered distantly if it would have showed itself to him if he were wandering in the forrest alone, or if it would be the same if she were alone as well.

After expelling a long sigh, Phonix's gaze returned to the path behind them. "Do you think we should head back?" he asked, turning back to her. "I hope your skills in navigation are superb, just incase the woods decide to play a trick on us..."

Dominique felt a sudden loss when he let go off her hand. After being warm and protected in his, she could feel the light cold breeze in it and she did not like it. However, she did not showed her true feelings either and focused of the fact that he was still close to her. "Exactly." She replied with a smile. It was so good to know that someone else shared her view in that matter. "We will know exactly what the unicorn was trying to tell us when the right time comes. We just have to be patient."

She shrugged lightly at his question. "I suppose so. We do need to go to the kitchens so you eat something." She said with a small smile. "Oh, don't worry. I know the way back." She grinned, turning around and starting to walk back to the castle, not walking away from him.

When she had agreed, Phoenix nodded once before gesturing towards the path through which they came. He had moved behind her, a protective hand poised by her back, but not exactly touching. It was a protective gesture- one that was meant to make her feel safer in such a dark gloomy place- though he could see she was the sort of woman who was more than capable of taking care of herself. "That sounds good, though..." he trailed off, taking a small peak at the watch linked to a chain inside his pocket. "I might have to wait until dinner." he said, looking down at her. "Should I walk you to your dormitories?" A most inviting smile.
