WHO: James and Frank
WHAT: Amusement! Frank has some serious teasing to do.
WHERE: By the lake.
WHEN: this afternoon
RATING: PG-13 for language and crude conversation ;)
STATUS: in progress

To be perfectly and completely honest, Lily's teasing about kissing boys disturbed James far more than he cared to admit. Sure, he knew fully well that he was being incredibly over-protective and that she was going to do whatever she wanted regardless of how he felt, but that didn't stop him from wanting desperately for her to stop growing up. It was hard to think of her as more than his baby sister. He didn't like having to think of her growing up and dating all of the idiots running around.

James knew exactly what he'd been up to himself lately, the memories he had with Emily from the Halloween Ball (more specifically, after they'd been removed from the ball due to inappropriate actions) still causing him to smile in spite of himself. He knew of his own appetite for the fairer sex and how often they ran through his mind. And he didn't want Lily getting caught up with someone like him. She was too... well, she was his little sister. He didn't want her to get hurt.

It frustrated him. However, he knew there really wasn't too much he could do about it unless whoever it was that was kissing on his baby sister decided to be honorable and meet up with him. So he simply pushed those serious thoughts to the back of his mind to focus on more pleasant ones as he moved outside, craving the crisp air to help calm himself.

As an extra precaution, James tightened the scarf (another of his grandmother's gifts) closer, not wanting to get any sicker than he was at the moment -- he and Emily, after being removed, escaped to the Landing to proceed with rather dirty actions. Outside. In October. And were, therefore, both suffering from slight colds. The memory caused that smile that had generally accompanied it to form itself into more of a smirk as he moved leisurely towards the lake, his hands finding their way into his pockets as he noted idly that he wasn't sore any longer.

"I certainly hear that," he responded. As far as lying to parents went, James was among the best. After all, with such a reputation as his and a bunch of the parents of his peers still wanting to do what they could to please his father, even telling on his son if possible, he had to have some sort of solid defense. He'd gotten skillfully out of quite a few discussions with his father concerning his sexual habits. Thankfully, none of it had been mentioned to his mother over the years. She was more the 'kill now, ask questions later' type. And death would definitely put a damper on things.

He snorted, shaking his head. "You're kidding, right? She probably would've begged to join, if anything. I'm irresistible, remember?"

He smirked in response, nodding. "Quite lucky." He never had been able to understand why Frank was shy around women. As far as he could tell, he didn't really have a reason to be. But he knew a lot of it had to do with (again) the infamous Carmen situation.

He needed to get over it, James knew, but he didn't have a clue how to help him accomplish that.

Frank snorted a laugh. He could just imagine what lies James Potter came up with to his parents. It wasn't like they were particularly tough parents, they just didn't take much...shit, for lack of a better term. Frank had known Harry and Ginny potter since he was born; his father had been one of their best friends. He had grown up with James, and seen the way he was diciplined. He could just imagine that Ginny wouldn't be too happy with James' choice of lifestyle while he was at school.

"Nope, not kidding," he replied, "I'm pretty sure she would have ran in fear." Maybe not. Frank knew how girls felt about James Potter, and Darcy probably was a bit bored with Frank. He hoped that he was at least a bit entertaining at the ball.

Frank nodded. He should be running around the school catching girls like James did, especially since he was single after nearly two years. And it was his last year. He was Quidditch captain, he was a nice guy, not so bad looking.. Why couldn't he just get over his ex girlfriend. "She talked to me the other day, you know." He didn't have to say who it was. The tone of voice was always specified just for Carmen.

Oh, Harry and Ginny were far from strict, that was certain. Harry's childhood had been so terrible as far as a family-life was concerned, he was adamant on letting his children have the most perfect childhood possible. Even if that meant letting them get away with far more than he should have. And Ginny was generally happy to oblige his father in that regard, only stepping in now and then when it seemed necessary. She was definitely more of a disciplinarian, to be certain. But they were both fabulous parents, so James never really complained when he actually did get in trouble.

He shrugged. "I suppose anything is possible," he responded. "Doubtful, but possible." Honestly, Frank didn't give himself nearly enough credit. James was more than comfortable enough in his sexuality to be able to clearly say that Frank had a lot going for him and a lot to offer a girl.

James had some idea of how difficult a time Frank was having, though. After that relationship in his fifth year (with the girl he referred to as She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named in order to make the situation more amusing than painful), he'd finalized his decision to simply stay single for as long as possible. The difference was in the way they'd handled the break ups. Unlike Frank, James had immediately gone back out into the dating world. Frank's comment pulled him from his thoughts and he looked at him curiously. "Really? What about?"

Neville wasn't exactly a strict father; he hadn't grown up with parents, much like Harry, and his Grandmother had been far too hard on him, so he had always treated the kids in ways that any child would dream of from a father. He was laid back, and was a bit too quiet to be really strict. But Hannah was also quite fun loving; that was probably why Alice and Frank got a way with a lot growing up. He never complained.

Frank just laughed, shaking his head. "Yeah.." he trailed off, just thinking about things. How lucky James was, maybe. He never got attatched. He got to date--and most of the time, shag--the prettiest girls in school. And they still remained friends, most of the time. He didn't have to worry about breaking it off and being upset and still having feelings for someone.

Glancing at him, he looked away as they talked about Carmen. "Yeah, she commented on my journal, asking how I was doing." He shook his head, laughing at himself as he remembered his reaction. "I'm such a bumbling idiot. I just answered her in like...three words."

James, though he certainly had no qualms with admitting his sexual appeal and good lucks whenever possible, honestly didn't know quite how he'd managed to be such a bachelor with such ease. It probably had a lot to do with the fact that he was about as far from an arrogant jerk as possible, his friendly and compassionate nature making it quite simple for him to stay friends with the girls he dated. He occasionally wished he could find the right fit, though, for he knew he did eventually want to settle down and have a family. But it was the time in his life when he was supposed to have fun, so he might as well fulfill that to the best of his abilities.
After all, he was graduating before too long and wouldn't see a lot of these people again, so why worry with a relationship? He wanted to travel immediately after he left the school, not marry some girl who'd force him to become a provider and father.

Looking back to Frank, he sighed and shook his head at him. "Well, was it an appropriate three words? If its going to be a short response, it had better at least have been good," he commented.
