WHAT: Late night sneaks to the kitchens
WHERE: The kitchens.
WHEN: Late night / past curfew

It wasn't that unusual for Phoenix to be out past curfew, sneaking around the castle discovering the many ways to get in places he shouldn't, but he wasn't so sure if it was for Kairi. He liked her, he wanted to see her, but he wasn't sure he wanted to get her in trouble. Then agian, his wanting to see her outweighed his nervousness at getting her in trouble. Besides, he was rather hungry and what better way to sate that hunger than with an attractive girl?

Phoenix leaned against the walls, hidden in the shadows waiting for Kairi. He hadn't even thought up an excuse as to why he was out late, if he happened to be caught. But, he knew that the lies would come quickly and surely if he was caught. The lies always came quickly. It was a gift, if you could call it that. A gift that Phoenix wasn't sure if he would use on Kairi. There were just some people that he couldn't lie to, and he hadn't found out yet if she were one of them.

Sometimes Kairi needs to get out, needs to be free from responsibility and life. And what better way to do that than running around past curfew into the kitchens. It was a rush for her to be so irresponsible and kid like. She knew her brother wouldn't approve but she didn't care at the moment. He's done stupid stuff, so why can't she? Kairi left her dorm quietly. Midnight snacks were always awesome, and she couldn't help but feel giddy about having one with Phoenix Malfoy.

Sneaking around in the castle wasn't hard for her. She's done it a few times before. It wasn't a big habit for her. She reached the doors to the kitchens. Upon entering she looked around for Phoenix, she didn't see him at first, but then she saw his figure in the shadows. She gave him a confused look. "Are you hiding from something?" She whispered, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Hiding?" He asked with a confused look in his face as he stepped out of the shadows, his voice normal. "Why would I be hiding?" Then he realized she'd been whispering and lowered his voice. "Why are we whispering?" Then before she could answer, he gave her a cheeky grin, grabbed her hand and led her to a small table that was already laden with food.

"You know, House Elves here are rather more helpful and nice than the ones back at the Manor." Phoenix said just as a House Elf made an appearance and smiled at them, opening its mouth to probably ask if they wanted anything more, but Phoenix held up a hand and said, "No, thank you, we have enough, unless, Kairi here would like something more." He said, turning his eyes on Kairi and giving her a smile.

She looked confused as well, "Well, you were in the shadowy part..and well, I thought maybe you were..hiding." She blushed wildly. Kairi didn't notice how nervous she was until she saw his grin. She had been trying to prepare herself, but apparently she failed. She giggled when he whispered to her, and gave a tiny shrug. As he took he hand she could feel another blush forming, but Kairi didn't know if it was too noticable. She saw the small table already had food on it, she hadn't planned to eat much either.

Kairi looked at him as he spoke and she nodded. "Most house elves are supposed to be like that. I've never seen the ones at your home, but I'm sure they aren't that bad." She grinned at him, and then saw the little house elf coming to them. "Oh. No thank you. I think I've had enough food for one night." She giggled lightly. She wondered why people thought the Malfoys were so...awful. "So, how is school for you so far?" She asked, beign curious.

"Maybe I was hoping to scare you." Malfoy joked, a twinkle in his eye as he grinned at her. As he led her to the table he glanced back at her, noticing the lovely blush that stained her cheeks. It suited her. Perhaps he'd have to work on making her blush more often.

"Yes well, I think my dad had some fun being somewhat cruel to them when he was a kid, so they're a bit crochety when it comes to me. I look just like him, my dad. I think they mistake him for me, you now?" He said, merely watching her.

Her next question caused him to groan. "Potter's being a prat about my sister. I don't know how much longer I can go without hexing him over it. It's not right what he's saying about her." Phoenix stated, his voice slightly tainted with anger, but when he looked at Kairi the anger vanished.

"I'm sorry. He just makes me so angry when he talks about my sister as though she's a toy he needs to play with until she's broken in." His eyes were full of apology, as was the small sheepish smile on his face.

"Well your plan didn't work did it?" She raised her eyesbrows at him playfully.

Kairi nodded, listening to him speak. She felt so comfortable around Phoenix. "Yeah, that might be it. But you don't..be mean to them like you dad did..do you?" She didn't know why that question was so hard to ask, but it was, and she hoped that the answer was a no. "You know," She started, picking up her glass. "Some say your father was a good looking boy back in the day.." She was about to take a sip, before her eyes grew wide, realizing what she just said. She sat the glass down, and avoided his eyes.

She started to giggle when he talked about Albus. Everyone knew that Albus would be after ever girl including Athena. "Albus will be himself. But I would be the same way if he ever thought about Jenna." She could hear the anger in his voice, and he sounded down right mean. Kairi was hesitant about speaking before he did. And when he did, he was apologizing. "It's okay. I know a few people that like to mess with my nerves too. And honestly, I think your sister wouldn't go for Potter anyway. I don't think she'd fall for his little minds tricks." She gave him a compassionate smile.

Of course, talking about Albus caused his heart rate to rise, and for his anger to bubble inside him, but Kairi's giggle managed to keep it from exploding. "She's a smart girl, but Albus is a wanker, if I've ever met one." Phoenix said with a shake of his head. Albus Potter was definitely not on his high list of things to talk about, so he switched back to their previous topics.

"Of course I'm not mean to them like dad. They've got feelings, don't they?" He said with a small wave of his hand. His nose wrinkled slightly in distaste. "Even if they are weird little buggers." He eyed one that was walking by warily. He looked at Kairi and shook his head, "They're always bothering you to eat."

Then with a slight laugh, he added, "But speaking of my father, you know," he paused for a second until Kairi met his gaze. "I hear I look an awful lot like him."

She could sense that Phoenix didn't like talking about Albus, she could see it in his eyes. She decided not to mention him for the rest of the night. It would be best for their conversation. "He can be." was all she said.

Kairi smiled when he said that he didn't be mean to the house elves. "Of course they do. They are just like people." She nodded, watching one pass them by. "They are just overly happy. It'd be nice to have one around. There would never be a dull moment." She paused, "It's what they do best! Beg you to eat their food."

Kairi bit on her lower lip to hold in her laughter. Her eyes stared into his, and another blush came to her cheeks. "Thus making you attractive." Kairi smirked, then laughed slightly.

"Well we all knew that, love." Phoenix said with a slight smirk, winking at Kairi. Whether or not he actually believed he was attractive didn't matter, because you have to stroke your ego now and then, don't you?

"I'm not sure about never having a dull moment with House Elves around though." He said after a pause. He shot a doubtful look at a passing elf. "Their happiness can be quite annoying at times, you know."

Kairi bit her bottom lip looking at Phoenix. Him winking at her made her blush once again. She was starting to curse the way he could do that, but she loved it all at the same time. "A bit full of yourself?" She joked, raising her eyebrows.

"That is very true. I never thought I would see something so....happy." She tiled her head, looking at the same house elf. "Or annoying.." She laughed.
