Bryn Abercrombie and James Potter
Who: Bryn Abercrombie and James Potter
What: Running // company
where: By the Lake
When: Afternoon on October 23rd 2022
Why: Bryn needs her first thread!
Rating: TBA
Status: Incomplete

The wind was tossing her hair back and forth in her pony tail as she ran to the edge of the lake. Skidding a few inches away from the water, dropping her hands to her knees, her breath ragged, sharp. The cold biting at her throat reminding her that she was alive. Collapsing onto the grass she glanced up to the sky smiling slightly to herself. Her hair a mess, her mind all over the place. Bryn only ran about once a week when she needed some air or if she was angry. It was a good realize, and something she learned from her
brother.

The peace of outside left for the moment crunches of footsteps started to catch up to her. The sound startled her but a line for a song popped into her head. She pushed the thought away feeling silly to even think about something like that when she didn't have a clue who was behind her. Sitting up slowly she tried to smooth her hair down. The one problem with running was it always made her feel messy when she stopped. Hoping she didn't look too terrible she turned looking to see who it was.

"Oh. Hey." She said with a smile, she wasn't expecting to see anyone out there at the moment, but she wasn't going to refuse the company. Besides perhaps she'd get to distracted to run back up to the castle. After all Bryn wasn't exactly the most athletic girl in the world. She tried to be when she was younger, but she was much more suited for wandering around and looking at things, and coming up with ideas. She'd leave the athletic stuff to other people, but hey at least she tried with running....

It was honestly rather difficult to tell whether the longing to spend most of his time outdoors came from a simple love of nature or that instinctive Potter desire for something a bit more exciting than the claustrophobic walls of the castle. Given that he couldn't exactly busy himself with some of the same activities his father had at his age, that instinct had manifested itself into a need to feel free. Something about being outdoors helped satisfy that need. Being indoors for long periods of time made him somewhat anxious and tense, especially when that cramped feeling was accompanied by long bouts of boredom.

It was, therefore, not at all uncommon for him to immediately venture outside as soon as his final class ended for the day. After a brief stop in Gryffindor Tower to dispose of his books and change into more comfortable clothing, James thanked his luck that the stairs cooperated with his desire to get outside as quickly as possible.

As soon as he stepped outside, relief from the anxious feeling that had built up over the day washed over him and a smiled crossed his face. Adjusting the sleeves of the burgundy sweater (compliments of his Grandmother Molly, who'd gotten infinitely better at them over the years) as he moved out onto the grass, James stuck his hands in the pockets of his jeans and headed towards the lake. As he drew nearer, he noticed a familiar blonde laying back in the grass and his smile grew. As she spoke to him, he looked down at her with an amused expression and a raised eyebrow. "Hello yourself. What have you been doing that has you so breathless and windblown?"

Bryn didn't waste a second shit hit his leg lightly. "I'll have you know that a girl has to stay in shape. " She said. "And for you not to even guess what I was doing and give me that look! I might be offended." Of course she had a bright smile on her face and she really was just being silly, but that was just the way that it had to be.

"I was running, you know that thing on your feet moving fast sort of...." Bryn wasn't a bad runner, but she wasn't an amazing runner either. She really did need to work on that, maybe that could be her next project. She probably need some sort of new thing to focus on. She did have some things to focus on, like getting Jasper Finnigan to actually be a little bit more social that was going to be challenging. She knew that be sort of hard, but hey it was fun right?

She blinked a few times before sitting up slightly, leaning on her elbows she looked up at James. "What are you doing out, getting yourself into trouble? Running away and letting someone else get in trouble for you? Or are you just sort of out here because you knew I'd be out here and you just had to spend time with me." She laughed slightly shaking her head as she did so.

He overreacted playfully to her hit, laughing and moving a step back from her quickly. "Clearly not, love, for any harder with that hit and I'd have a broken leg," he commented, then smirked a bit. "Oh, but there are plenty of other activities you could be doing to get a similar affect, Bryn." Playful as well, of course. Then again, James was rarely serious. "You could never be offended by mean. You don't take me seriously enough."

He feigned total fascination with her explanation of running. "So it's like walking... but fast? How interesting..." he commented, then shrugged. "Running is a waste of energy if you aren't late for something important or running from something frightening. If you aren't being chased or facing tardiness, then it's simply being far too impatient to enjoy the scenery around you."

Her questions made him smile once again and he appeared to weigh his answer before crouching beside her, resting his arms on his knees. "You've caught me, Bryn... I can't stop thinking about you. All night and all through classes today, I just couldn't get you out of my head. I had to see you," he said, his smile growing more playful as he did so. "Clearly, I chose a perfect time to find you. You look lovely with your hair all windswept like that." Ever the charmer.

"And I'd just have to kiss it to make it better. You're missing out on a kiss now." She said with a roll of her eyes and exaggerated disgusted look. "You seriously should think things through." She said.

"Duh!" She played along. "Did it really take you that long to figure that out? And I'm sorry, but running is the best way to get sexy legs, and we all know I've got some sexy legs." She said with a smug playful look. Actually she didn't really care that much what he thought about her legs, they were legs! And clearly life was so much more important than just a pair of legs.

"I knew it. What took you so long to just admit to it? How could you live without just admitting to it. I almost feel really bad for you. Living with such thoughts and not being able to tell me. You're just ever so lucky to have found me now."

Bryn blushed at the complement, even though she didn't really take it completely serious. "You know, it is going to be the new look. But I'll give you credit, that's a sweet thing to say.

As she commented about missing out on a kiss, he opened his mouth to protest before settling into his almost trademarked pouty expression. "Oh, you can't be serious, Bryn... that's not fair!" he said, settling to actually sit beside her. Then a somewhat sneaky glint appeared in his eyes. "Of course, now I know that all I have to do to get you to kiss me is let you hit me around a little. That makes my job quite a bit easier."

He made a show of observing her legs carefully before nodding. "I do believe I'll have to agree with you. I have quite a bit of experience judging legs and I must admit that they are among the sexiest I've yet to encounter. Of course, part of that has to do with the lovely lady they belong to." Life, indeed, was more important than a pair of legs. However, James would be lying if he didn't say that 'Life' was more fun when sexy legs were involved.

He sighed desperately, shaking his head. "It's been so hard, living with this secret of mine. I mean, having to be in your stunning presence all of the time and never mention my longing for you? It's nearly killed me. It's relieving to have it out in the open."

He laughed a bit. "Oh, I guarantee you there will be a few first years trying to emulate it by the end of the week," he responded. "So, who is the lucky guy who is taking you to the ball? I'm certain there has to be someone."

"The trick is, will it work next time, or was it just a one time thing and you completely missed your chance at a kiss from me." She said giving a very innocent shrug with a sweet look on her face. The sweet look didn't last long as she was laughing moments later about her legs. She'd like to think that she had some killer legs but hey, she wasn't a guy, men judged things a lot differently and extremely oddly. Men were really weird after all.

She blushed lightly and started to bat her eyelashes for a few moments. "You really think so. You're just so sweet!" She said before laughing while rolling her eyes once again. She really was glad that it had been someone amusing who had walked by, not someone she didn't know or like.

"I'm glad you finally got it out, It might have killed you if you didn't let it out now. Could you imagine if you held it in for another month or so. I'd rather have an alive James than a dead one." She said nodding with a false serious look on her face.

With one small 'ha' she nodded. "We'll see."

"Oh! The ball. Yes indeed I am going with on Jasper Finnigan. I decided that he really needed to get out and do some fun stuff. He's sort of a hidden one, plus he's good looking. The boy needs to get out and have fun." She said nodding as if it were a completely normal thing to say to a male.

James lifted both of his eyebrows at her comment that he may have missed his chance and the pout returned just slightly. "I'll just have to hope against all hope that it will work next time or I may just have to drown myself in the lake with the squid. After all, missing an opportunity like that for good would leave me with no reason to live." He looked hopeful then, smiling a little to complete the act. "Would you say I have a good chance of it working in the future?"

Though James really wasn't all that picky when it came to female company (big surprise, hmm?), Bryn was definitely among his top choices. Aside from the fact that she was very pretty, she also didn't mind playing along with him. He definitely appreciated occasionally being able to have slightly scandalous conversation with someone who wouldn't slap him in response.

"I would've probably exploded. Contrary to popular believe, I doubt that I'm nearly as attractive inside out," he commented. "Blood and guts aren't generally very high on most people's 'turn-ons' list."

James nodded, smiling at her response. "I definitely agree. I don't know him to terribly well, but maybe a good time will help him come out of his shell a bit," he responded. "Lucky guy."

"You'll have to find out, now wont you." She said laughing slightly before shrugging slightly. "You'll find out in a few days, or a month." Bryn teased with a shrug laying back down on the ground, her elbows were starting to hurt.

"That would have been on the "turn off" list very, very quickly, and than you would have no hope of ever spending time with me. So you should be really glad that you spilled now." She said laughing before turning on her side and looking up at him. "So. Are you going to be charming and win a kiss or a hug? Or are you going to boring and make me stand up and away?" She asked with a saucy look on her face.

"Don't you share a dorm with him? This might be a little bit more work than I thought." She said shrugging slightly. "Hmmmmmmmm........." She said thinking about before falling back onto her back. "Hey, have you ever seen those really old Starwars movies or something like that?"

James huffed a little, much like a child would when told unfair news. He went right back to pouting. "You do realize that 'a few days' and 'a month' are very different lengths of time, Bryn... I can't wait that long!" he responded. "You women are so mean sometimes, picking on us men like you do."

He nodded. "I am definitely glad with the decision," he said, then looked down to her with curiosity as she began speaking once more. Her saucy look was rewarded with a very seductive smirk of his own. "Love, I'll do anything you ask for a kiss. Decidedly somewhat less for a hug, but it would still be worth the work, no doubt. What would you have me do?"

His expression grew quite amused at that and he shrugged a bit. "You do realize that I share a dorm with Frank and Fred, as well as a few other guys with rather interesting personalities. I can't honestly be expected to have an excellent relationship with someone so shy!" he pointed out. He looked at her with curiosity once more. "Star Wars? Yeah, I think so. Why?"

"No need to pout about it. Pouting wont do any good you know!" She said with a wink. "When it comes to good looking men with healthy egos, of course!" She said laughing slightly. She was glad that James never really took her the wrong way or got mad about her teasing it made life a lot easier for her.

"Well lets see..... You could save me a dance at the ball..... Make sure I don't fall asleep in a class or two... And the other you have to figure it out yourself." She said after giving an extremely thoughtful look.

"There are 5 of you, just like there are five girls in my dorm, you have to at least talk to the guy you know!" She said rolling her eyes laughing. Although with Frank and Fred it was probably going to be pretty hard to get past talking to the two of them.

"Because I'm going to the ball as Padme and I know nothing about her or the movies."

He grinned. "True, but pouting has gotten me a lot of brilliant rewards in the past so I figured it was worth a try," he said. James literally only pouted when he had something up his sleeve and never when the occasion actually warranted such a response. He was odd like that.

He pretended to consider her conditions on how he might be able to obtain a kiss before nodding slowly in agreement. "I think I can handle that... and I'm rather good with mysteries," he said. "Consider a dance saved, though I'll have to request that you wait until a later date if you get the urge to reward me with a kiss. While I'm not the 'relationship' type, I don't generally make a habit of kissing more than one girl in a night." He added a wink afterwards for good measure.

"I didn't say I never spoke to him," he pointed out. "I just said I didn't know him too well! I don't... though I am rather good friends with his brother Cam, who is a pretty interesting guy. If he's in any way similiar to him, you'll have a fantastic time with him once you get him to show it."

He nodded in appreciation, smiling. "She's hot," he commented, then bit his lip slightly as he tried to recall more about her. "It's been awhile... I know she's the queen who married the bad guy before he went bad."

"Worth a try, but not working right now!" She said with a laugh and a half smile. Bryn was merely amused with him, she was having fun.

"Please, I wouldn't kiss you when I already have a date! Don't be silly!" She said rolling her eyes at him. Bryn would never do that, besides wasn't he going with Emily? Bryn's BEST MATE?! No way would she ever kiss her best mates date at the ball! She might kiss him before, but nothing serious of course.

"Well you should find out more about him for me! He sort of gets nervous when I talk to him." She said with a frown. "I'm not creepy am I?" She asked but held up a hand. "Wait don't answer that, I don't an answer from you." She said laughing again. Bryn was slightly worried that she was going to scare poor Jasper, but she was doing her best not to worry about it at all. "I don't know Cam other than he seems a little bit more outgoing than Jasper. That is the extent of my knowledge. And he players beater right?" She commented thinking about it for a moment.

She thought for half a second. "Well as long as she is hot, and at least she sounds..... interesting." Bryn said shrugging. "Besides it's not like I have to live her fictional life!"

He sighed, nodding. "I'll just have to accept that then, for now, and try again later when the situation looks better for success," he responded, grinning.

Her response made him laugh. "Good! After all, wouldn't want to start any girl fights in the middle of the dance," he added, teasing. It was true that Bryn was gorgeous and definitely worth spending his time with, but James far too pleased with landing Emily as a date to do anything to mess that up. It would be hard to enjoy the night if she was mad at him for most of it.

James laughed once more at the thought of Bryn making Jasper nervous. "I'll do what I can and let you know," he said. Her question caused him to laugh a bit once more. "As you wish," he responded, not answering the question. "Cam's a nut most of the time. Amusing as everything, but also rather crazy. And I'm pretty sure you're right about him playing beater," he responded, nodding a bit.

"Way to go about it like a man would," he commented with amusement. "Yeah, she's definitely hot. Everyone at the dance who knows anything about Star Wars will definitely appreciate the idea and those who don't will probably be interested enough to find out more about it."
