Who: Evan, Athena, and Jessica
What: Uh oh.
When: Over the break, after Jessica and Evan's fight
Where: Evan's house
Rating: PG-13 at least


Evan wasn't entirely sure what he was getting himself in to by inviting Athena Malfoy over. Sure, he had every intention of releasing some of his pent up sexual frustration, but there was a part of him that was worried he was getting more than he bargained for. Was Athena actually comfortable with the fact that Evan had gone from snogging her to dating Jessica or was she secretly pissed about it? True, Evan was sure he could come up with a few ways to distract her from that, but it did mean he put a touch more effort into his appearance that day. Nothing over the top, of course, but it was noticeable in his attire as he waited for Athena to show.

Then, of course, there was this odd nagging feeling at the back of his mind, something that had nothing to do with Athena and everything to do with Jessica Vaisey. She was the first girl he had ever dated exclusively, the first girl one might say he was 'serious' about. Admittedly, he'd considered such things with Athena but they seemed more for appearances and physical satisfaction than affection, or whatever it was he held for Jessica.

Jessica was quite possibly his best friend. Now things had gone to shit, and he was quite confident that she was never going to speak to him again. Not only that, but it meant all of their mutual friends were going to be glaring at him, too. Fantastic. If this entire ordeal wasn't proof that relationships were a terrible idea, he wasn't sure what was.

And that was exactly why Athena Malfoy was coming by for a 'visit'.

Athena lifted herself up onto her toes so she could kiss him back without him having to bend over so much, being short was a problem sometimes. Athena was fine with how fast things were going, this was a hookup, no romance was needed. And Athena didn't have a problem with physical things, well except for that one night, but that wasn't going to ever been mentioned again.

She moved her hands downward and grabbed the bottom of her own shirt and pulled it upward, untucking it from her skirt. It was her little way of letting him know she was alright with his actions, and he could keep going.

Evan smirked against her lips as she untucked her shirt, quickly moving to finish the job for her, as he lifted the shirt up and pulled it the rest of the way over her head. It was a bit on the creepy side how similar their body types were, slim and petite and pale, but Evan shaped that up to knowing what he liked as his hands skimmed over her smooth skin.

Athena blamed the fact that she liked blokes who looked liked her because she's was horribly narcissistic. Now then Athena's shirt was out of the way she got to work on his clothing, working on undoing the closures on his pants. She used the waistband to pull their hips together and she lifted her face upward to kiss him again.

Jessica had been feeling horrible since the last time she'd been here. The memory of her last meeting with Evan was still fresh in her mind as she walked the familiar halls of Pucey manor. The urge to turn and flee came to her once or twice, but she pushed them back and forced herself to move forward. After days of solitude, she was able to think about what had happened, and came to realize that she did have shortcomings on her part. Evan had changed for her in his own little ways, and she wanted to let him know she was willing to do more for her part, too. She wanted to apologize, and maybe tell him how much she's missed him too.

Jess didn't know why she didn't knock that time, when usually, she did. She closed her hand around the intricate handle and turned; it was open. She pushed the door with her hand and her eyes settled on a scene that made her insides twist and pull into tight knots that left her legs weak and immobile. She was glued to the spot as she watched Athena Malfoy in Evan's arms, thier bodies tangled in an intimate embrace. She hadn't realized she'd let go of the door, and the collision of the wooden surface against the wall beside it made startling bang that resounded in the entire room. Jessica stared at it in shock, and moved to pull it back, but realized that she was far too late...

There are some things Evan Pucey just did not expect to see while in the midst of a very heated snog session with Athena Malfoy. The smooth slopes of Athena's figures? Sure. The pricey fabric of her undergarments? Absolutely. The horrified face of his ex... whatever she was? Not quite.

Evan jolted at the loud bang, pulling back from Athena to look at the source, only to freeze in shock. What was she doing here? Didn't she hate him or something? She didn't exactly look happy, which, he supposed, wasn't entirely surprising. The first thing he thought was to hide Athena's exposed figure behind his broad shoulders for a bit of modesty (that was probably unnecessary with a girl like Athena) as he stooped to pick up her shirt.

"Jess...What are you doing here?" he asked slowly.

"She's interrupting, which is rude. And she's not allowed to join, I don't do that sort of thing," Athena said rolling her eyes. Didn't anyone knock anymore? She grabbed her shirt away from Evan, but didn't put it back on yet. She wanted to just kick out the other girl and finish with her fun, but she didn't think Evan would be in the mood anymore.

She sighed and glared at the other girl, things were probably going to start getting emotions. Athena didn't like those, they were too messy and not at all logical. "Jessica, you could have waited until we were done. Then he would have been all yours." Was this karma for the times she had left Evan half finished?

Jessica wondered why she didn't feel angry. She should be, right? After all, she had just witnessed the man whom she was supposed to be exclusive with snogging another girl senseless. But at that moment, all she could feel was her weak knees and breaking heart.

Her eyes couldn't look at Athena, for part of her seemed to be wishing she wasn't there at all. She instead looked at Evan with an apologetic gaze. "I... um... I wanted to say I'm sorry for the other day." she said, sadness in her tone. "I know I have shortcomings, and I... I wanted to tell you that..." A sigh escaped her. She couldn't seem to go on.

"But I seemed to have been under a misapprehension all this time. I thought we were in the same page. Apparently not. So... I just... um... I'm sorry, Evan. But just so you know, I wasn't the one who walked out on us." To spare herself from further embarrassment, she turned and closed the door behind her with a soft click, but merely stayed there for a second, not trusting her legs to support her yet.

Evan might have laughed at Athena's comments if they hadn't been about him and his ex...thing. Not to mention the fact that as Athena had yet to engage in a twosome, the odds of a threesome were laughable.

She was sorry? That was something he had certainly not been expecting. She had seemed awfully sure of herself when she walked out. He had assumed he was going to be the douchebag who had no soul for the rest of their lives. An awkward hand raised to scratch the back of his neck as she let out a weak sigh, and he felt obligated to say something, but could think of nothing.

Luckily, she started talking again, but her words only left him more baffled than the first round. She wasn't the one who walked out? She quite literally walked out of his house that afternoon. It had seemed like a pretty clean break to him, a slap in the face, not to mention. Now she was blaming him?!

As she disappeared, however, Evan glanced at the shirtless Athena and let out a weak groan. Since when did he turn down half-naked girls for fully clothed ones? He was losing his mind. "I'll be right back. You just... Yeah." He eyed her figure longingly, before willing himself to zip up his pants and head away and out the door after Jessica.

She was directly outside waiting for him, and he shoved his hands in his pockets as he looked at her. "You left, Jessica. You called me an asshole- well, in nicer words- and you stormed off. That seemed pretty final to me."

Jess felt the door handle slip from her fingers as it opened, and to her surprise, Evan went out after her. Part of her wished he just didn't for she still felt so horrible after seeing all that. she needed time to think, though he seemed to have taken that choice from her.

She turned to face him, her expression void of any feeling. "Don't put words in my mouth, Evan." she said in her soft tone. "I never said it was over. I never wanted it to be over. If I did, did you think I would be here right now?" She ran her hands through her hair, messing it up just slightly and she looked down. "I wanted to apologize, to tell you that I'm willing to make sacrifices, too. Cause that's what people in relationships do. That's what I want to do." A pause. "Did you stop and think that maybe the reason why you just assumed it was over is because... you wanted it to be over?"

This is why Evan never entered into relationships. They were confusing and messy and everything always, always ended up being the guy's fault, no matter what happened. Girls read so deep into everything, and Evan was certainly the sort of bloke to take things at surface value.

"Well, how was I supposed to know you were going to come back and apologize?" he asked, trying not to look as exasperated as he felt. "And, no, I didn't think about how I wanted it to be over. I thought about how crazy it was to put a virgin and... well, me, in a relationship, obviously. I thought about how I was going to lose my bloody mind, yes. Most girls don't think of... the physical aspects of a relationship as a sacrifice, you know."

"Why wouldn't I?" Jessica asked him, less frustrated and just more saddened by the entire ordeal. "And I never thought that, really. I just... wasn't expecting it. So soon. We've never talked about it, and I thought you... were contented with just... being with me. I did, with you... But maybe it is my fault that I assumed that." A sigh escaped her and she wrung her hands before her. "You asked me to choose between you and Hugo. I chose you. I've fought for you for so long, Evan. Why would I just want to throw it all away after one argument?"

Jessica took a brave step towards him, her expression still somber, resigned as she looked at him. "Do you want me to go?" she asked, fearful of the answer but knew that she needed to hear what he wanted from her then. "Tell me what you want. I'm here. I'll stay if you want me to. But if you don't..." She didn't want to say it, say what awaited Evan just passed his doors. It hurt too much to say it out loud...

"So soon?" Evan nearly choked on the words. "A month is a long bloody time to panic over me taking off your shirt, Jess!" There she went again, with the 'I thought just being with me was enough' spiel that made it seem like he wasn't interested in her as a person at all. It was so annoying, the way women made it seem like a strong sex drive meant they only wanted their body.

"Yeah, okay, you chose me," he agreed, resisting the urge to sneer at Hugo's name. "But you don't seem to be aware of what that choice entails. I'm a physical person. I've always been a physical person, and going a month without... anything is a big deal!" Clearly, she didn't grasp that concept. "I like being with you, but if I can't... be with you, too, then I'll go bloody insane. I'm sorry. I can't do that."

He didn't want her to go, truthfully, but he also didn't think it was in his best interest for her to stay if she was going to shoot down the notion of being physical with him. He was only human! He couldn't do it! And maybe that was pathetic, but it was who he was! If she told him no, he was headed back to the probably still half-naked blonde girl in his room, and while he might feel a bit guilty about it, it was better than blue balls.

The reason why Jessica had said what she did was because it was true. She wanted to believe he was contented with what they had before, that he was not looking for anything else. She didn't think he'd only been doing it for he was expecting something in return. Something she could not so readily give to him, even though she felt so strongly for him. She panicked! She wasn't used to being touched so intimately!

"Please don't talk like I don't want to be with you at all." Jess said. "I do. But I though you understand I'm not used to those things. I was confused and scared, but it did not mean I no longer what to be with you...

"But I'm wondering now if you'd even let me try to work this out. You seem so intent on pushing me away. Do you think I don't care about what I saw in there?" she raised her hand and gestured to the door behind him and stepped towards him, her anger finally surfacing, tears starting to pool in her eyes. "It hurts me so so much that you want to be with someone else, that you don't even care about what I would feel about what you're doing. Does that reflect what I mean to you? I mean nothing to you? Is that it? You are all I see, Evan, you're all I think about and any other could not compare to you for me." she spoke in between gritted teeth, for she was trying her hardest to not raise her voice, to not let the monster thrashing in her chest lash out at Evan for what hurt she was feeling then. "If what you want is for me to leave then please just fucking say so..."

Evan groaned. "I don't want to do it with someone else, but I couldn't do it with you, so what did you expect me to do?" Evan hoped Athena hadn't heard that little tidbit. That could be bad for future relations in the event that things still went sour.

"It isn't like you offered to work things out that day. You just stormed out and told me I was an asshole. I thought you were done! I thought we were done! I don't know how this kind of thing works!" How could she be mad at him for this? It was insane.

How could he tell her this was her fault? Jessica couldn't believe that he was trying to make it seem like he did nothing wrong. She knew she did things wrong, that's why she went to his house to sort things out. And what did she walk in on?

"I did not call you an asshole!" she said, her soft voice more sharp now. "I never said we were done. You assumed we were done. Did you even try to run after me, or owl me, or ask to patch things up?" This was draining her, fast, and she didn't know how long she could keep herself from crying. "If I did not go here today, would have contacted me?"

Okay, so he hadn't exactly fought for her, but Evan had never really fought for anything in his life. Most things got handed to him. He had never had to be concerned about girls or sex or money. They were always at his beck and call. It was uncomplicated, simple, good-old-fashioned one-night stands that left no strings attached.

Jessica, on the other hand, had all kinds of strings all tangled up in everything. She was his friend first. He'd taken the time to get to know her, and she had been there for him when things had gotten pretty damn terrible. Then things had elevated, and he'd had to take things slowly, and for him, he had. One hundred times as slowly as any other girl. But it hadn't been slow enough, and now there she was staring at him as if she were about to cry, and Evan wasn't sure what he'd done or what he was doing or what he should do.

"...No," he said honestly. "I didn't think you'd want to see me, anyway."

That single word of rejection pierced right through her, and she couldn't have stopped the tears to spill if she tried. He didn't want her. He never did. How could she have been so blind?

"Stop." she told him. "Just stop, Evan. How would have you known what I was feeling? You didn't even bother coming after me! You just... don't care about anyone but yourself. How dare you..." she had never felt so angry, so full of hate for herself, for him, for everything. Her heart was broken and she didn't know what to do, how to pull herself together. It was all too overwhelming. "Why did you even run after me now? You needn't humiliate me more. I already feel like such a fool on my own..."

Okay, so that wasn't exactly easy to swallow, but Evan supposed if he had misinterpreted the entire thing and she had still thought they were together, catching him with Athena with his pants down probably wasn't the easiest thing to deal with.

"I obviously didn't, Jess. I think that's why we're here, don't you?" She was making his head hurt. "I'm not trying to humiliate you. I just don't..." He ran a frustrated hand through his hair. "You know I've never done this kind of shite before. I guess because I'm not very good at it." A sigh escaped him.

"And I do care about you, for the record." He had a bad feeling that was just going to make her angrier. "It's not like I did this to hurt you."

His demeanor confirmed the thoughts in her head. Evan didn't seem to care enough to do something about their present situation, didn't even apologize and continued to insist that she was at fault for everything. "You don't what?" she asked. "And not being able to do this before isn't an excuse. I've never done this before either, but I know how it feels to be afraid of hurting someone you care about. It pains me to even think of hurting you, and that's not something I had to learn through experience.

"If you did care about me, you would have been afraid to hurt me." This, she knew was true. Nothing that he'll say would make her believe otherwise. One of her hands reached up to clutch her chest, pressing down on it to relieve the throbbing pain in it. "I've always asked you what you want, because it seems like your desires constantly change. I want this all to work out. Do you? Just give me a yes or no..."

Evan sighed and scratched the back of his neck uncomfortably. He felt like they were going around in circles. He tried to explain, she got upset. He tried to explain, she got upset. Was there anyway to win in this kind of situation?

He paused for a moment, before finally attempting to be as blunt as possible.

"I do want it to work out, but in order for it to work out, I have to know that you're going to be more physical. If not, then, I don't see this working, Jessica."

Jessica herself was getting quite tired of their conversation, and was grateful that he'd finally asked her what his conditions were. They were going 'round in circles and it was leaving her quite dizzy.

"That was what I came here to do." he told him honestly. "I wanted to work things out. I wanted to tell you that after a bit of thought and having to spend these past days not being able to talk to you and missing you so much, that I am going to be more open to being more physical with you. Then I saw... this..." she sighed, looking at him directly. "What about you? Can you please just be with me, and only me? Or can you not do that anymore?" She dreaded the answer, but knew she needed to hear this now.

Evan hadn't been expecting that, honestly. He perked up considerably at the idea, but he had to admit the word 'try' did make him a bit nervous. He supposed he'd just have to deal with that.

"This..." He gestured to the room. "Only happened because I thought we were done. You won't have to worry about that, okay?"

Jessica wasn't going to try, she was determined to do it. For him. It was what he wanted, and in truth she did, too, but was simply afraid before. She was new to all of this, new to having a boyfriend and being intimate with someone. The possibility of doing something wrong scared her, plus there was the fact that she was a virgin...

It gave her the smallest relief to hear that he had only been with Athena because he thought they were over. Sure, he could have been lying, but Jess didn't want to think so. "How are you going to tell her that?" she asked then, scared what could happen if she left him in that room with Athena again...

Well... that went well. Evan couldn't help but smirk slightly at her question. "Well, knowing Athena she's gotten bored and has probably found her own way out by now." He shrugged. "I can ask her to leave, if she's still there. I'm sure she'll understand." In an Athena sort of way.
