Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO. Dante Macmillan & Ashley Davies
WHAT. Birthday surprise!
WHERE. Hogsmeade, Late Night
WHEN. Feb 5th
RATING. TBA
STATUS. Closed / Incomplete

It was definitely one of the colder nights in Hogsmeade, Dante realized as he took a spot on a wooden bench propped in front of Ashley's rented flat. His hands were shaking as they held a box on his lap, the defined cheeks and tips of his ears flushed red. He should have worn thicker, warmer clothes, he thought. But what was a little sacrifice for someone he cared about?

It's been a little over a month since the indicent that happened in Roger's New Years Party. It was the last time he'd seen or talked to Ashley, and the way they did wasn't exactly the best. He remembered, for some reason, that it was her birthday and figured someone needed to celebrate it with her. Earlier, he'd asked the elves for a special request, and after dinner, he'd taken the small round cake, placed it in a box and left the Castle. He'd been sitting there since, slowly freezing to death, wondering where she was... if she was going to go home at all, he thought...

Dante could only sigh in response. He kept his hands in his pockets for this every reason, for him to stop himself from giving into his impulses. He wanted to hold her face in his hands and assure her everything was alright, despite what had happened during his birthday. But he knew at the same time that things were no longer the same. He coulnd't lie to her.

"Would it help it I left?" Dante asked, serious about his question. "I will if it will make things easier for you."

Ashley just sighed, shaking her head. "No, it wouldn't make things easier, Dante," she replied softly. That was the last thing she wanted. Of course, it would make things easier in the bigger picture. But that wasn't the question he had asked. It wouldn't make things easier, it would only make it harder. Because she would spend the night upset, wondering why she had let him leave and never getting him off of her mind. "I don't want you to leave," she finally admitted, looking down at the ground once again, her arms crossed against her chest.

Dante smiled a sad smile, feeling her confusion match his own. He truly didn't want to leave, but after the events of New Year, there were certain bounderies he didn't wish to cross now out of respect for his mate. Her brother, Roger. "Would you mind sitting in the freezing cold with me then?" he asked, taking he spot back on the back. He crossed his legs and draped an arm over the back of the long seat, but his posture suggested that he was not intending to sit too close. "It's the only choice I think we have. I can stay for a bot longer, maybe watch the sky for a bit..." An encouraging smile. "What do you say?"

As much as Ashley wanted to be rebellious and tell Dante to grow up and stop worrying about Roger, she couldn't. Normally Ash would be spouting off about the situation, doing whatever she wanted, but she knew he was right. She didn't want her brother and his ebst friend to fight again because of her. It was just still...it hurt. And it frustrated her, and it made her sad. Roger hadn't even spoken to her all day, and it was her birthday. Dante was there, but he couldn't come inside. She felt rotten in the entire situation, and she felt lost. "Fine," she replied softly, her voice hoarse. She sat down, but not close to him, and kept both her feet on the ground. She didn't look at him, but just looked up at the sky. Some birthday, she wanted to say, but she didn't.

Dante had a veyr strong urge to throw everything up in the air and do what he flet liek doing. It was always the way he did things after all. But... he couldn't. now, there existed a but in his life strong enough to actually stop him fromt doing what he wanted. It mostly because that but was a really good friend, his best friend and he would never do anything to destroy what they have. He was just sad that he had to stay away from the but's great older sister int he process...

"You don't seem happy." Dante said as he watched her take a seat. "Didn't you hear me sing? I sang Happy Birthday! If I wanted you to be miserable in my presence, I should have tweaked the lyrics a little bit..." Was it the right time for a joke? The air was about to suffocate him, and she looked very sad. Yes, it probably was time for a joke. If he needed to resort to juggling or anything in that nature, he would. He just couldnt' stand making her unhappy...

It took everything in her not to just say fuck it and kiss him. Or move closer to him at least, it was cold afterall. But she didn't. She didnt want to get him angry, or Roger, she didn't want to cause problems again. But she just...she wanted to be happy. And she just wasn't.

"Because I'm not happy," she responded, quietly, looking ahead. Her lips only quirked slightly in a smile as he joked, but not much. Her eyes didn't show it. They were both miserable and they knew it. She really wanted to throw it all out the window but..she just couldn't. She already felt awful enough for last time. But she was still torn. Turning her head to look at him, she gave him a sad smile before sighing, turning her head away. Why was he there if he knew he shouldn't be? That had to mean something..

Dante saw the answer coming, but it didn't make things any easier for him when he actually heard her. She foreced a little laugh at his joke for his sake, he was sure, so as not to bruise his little ego. Bless her. "I'm sorry if I make you unhappy." he said simply, resting his hands in his pockets and looking up into the night sky. It was a magnificent dark blue, dusted with white and gold stars, beautiful in contrast to how possitively crappy he was feeling for causing Ashley greif. That wasn't what he intended when he came here at all! "What can I do?"

Letting out a heavy sigh, Ashley shook her head. "You don't make me unhappy," she admitted, turning her head to the side to look at him. Of course he didn't make her un happy. It wasn't him. It wasn't his choice to not be with her or to not come upstairs; they had no choice. It was the situation, she should have never..fallen for her brothers best friend. Or whatever this was. There wasn't just a physical attraction there, there was something more, something Ashley wasn't entirely sure of but she couldn't even explore it. Shaking her head again, she stood up, brushing her cold hands over her jeans. "You can't do anything, Dante," she said, turning towards him. "You've already said that." It wasn't that there was nothing he could do to make her happy, but there was, it was just what he couldn't. They already had made it clear. They shouldn't. "It's not your fault." Shifting, she looked away from him, down towards the castle, and then back to him. "You're probably cold, you should go."
