Who: Elena and OPEN
What: Elena is embarrassed.
Where: Just outside the library
When: Afternoon
Why: Because the library wants revenge.
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Elena spent very little time in the library at Hogwarts. The girl had nothing against the students who set up camp there, but she, personally, had trouble focusing in a room full of people trying to talk quietly to their neighbors and failing so miserably with their whispers that may as well have been a shout, of dusty books, and, most notably, of the pathetic groans of students who knew that no matter how much cramming they attempted for their upcoming test, they were doomed.

Instead, Elena had taken to making her visits to the librarian's domain nothing more than mere quickies- track down the needed book and get out as fast as possible. Little did she know, however, that the library didn't take well to being used, and it had already begun plotting its revenge against the insensitive miss Goyle. Passing through the door, Elena was in mid-step when she suddenly felt herself being jerked back. The strap of her book bag had managed to get itself stuck on the handle, and with an embarrassingly loud yelp of surprise, Elena tumbled ungracefully to the ground.

If there was one thing Elena lost her composure over, it was being laughed at. She hated it, the feeling of being pointed at, stared at. It was nearly the entirety of her reasoning behind losing the weight she had since her first year: fear of ridicule. Sure, there was the whole personal health issue, but she felt certain she was more likely to die of embarrassment than she was of clogged arteries.

She tried to be optimistic- hoping nobody had seen, but she knew better as she lifted her gaze up from the floor to see who had witnessed the spectacle, praying there wasn’t a crowd of people about to burst into peals of laughter.

With pinkened cheeks, Elena was relieved to look up and see, not a huge crowd of people, but only one: Alice Longbottom. It would be a lie to say the two were good friends, but Elena had never particularly held anything against the girl (save perhaps the fact that she managed to woo over the entire male population without much effort, but that was a different story). The situation certainly could have been worse.

"Thanks," she murmured, heaving herself up to her feet and removing her back from the door's clutches.

She found it a bit hard to believe that someone like Alice had managed to smash into the door- generally, pretty, popular people made an effort not to embarrass themselves horrifically- but the end of her story made it considerably more believable and did, in fact, serve to make Elena feel somewhat better about herself. "Really? that must've hurt something awful," she answered, grimacing slightly at the thought. "But, you know, I'm not so talented with powers of intimidation as you are, so I'm glad not many people saw me."

Alice's smile grew wider. "Oh it did hurt something awful, I make a concerted effort to slow down around doors now, so it doesn't happen again. You know, I think that might be one of maybe three times in my entire life I've showed signs of being as clumsy and awkward as my father." She didn't know if Elena cared about her father's clumsiness compared to herself, but Alice did know that if it had been her who'd just been embarrassed, it would help if someone just talked about something unimportant to keep her mind off it.

"Oh, you don't need powers of intimidation yourself, love." Alice said with a shrug and a wave of your hand. "That's where people like me come in. You get someone good with hexes and curses on your side and it doesn't matter if you can't them well, people will remember who you're friends with and leave you alone." Which was partially true, and not always so in Alice's case in the past.

"Now what were you doing to that poor that made it want to grab onto you and not let go?" Alice asked with a small friendly laugh.

Elena let out a soft laugh. Sometimes she found it really hard to believe that Alice was Professor Longbottom's daughter, but then again, many found it hard to believe she was Gregory Goyle Sr.'s daughter, too. She liked to think she was different from her parents, but she knew there were still some similarities she did her best to hide, and she doubted it was any different for Alice.

"I do have some of those," she admitted, suddenly wondering if Alice had been implying that she was said friend. She had never thought of placing the title of 'friend' upon Alice. She was older and in a different house, which kept them from seeing each other much. "And I'm rather good at them, too. I suppose I could just use them without the warning." As if.

Elena turned to look at the handle she had been caught on. "I'm not sure. I certainly hope it's through with its revenge though. That bloody well hurt."
