Entry tags:adam pucey, evan pucey, isabella weasley

Who: Isabella, Adam, and Evan
When: A few days after the dance
Where: By the lake
What: Isabella misses Adam, but Evan is not so happy to see him.
Rating: TBD, high for language later on

Isabella had been nervous to meet Adam. He hadn't seen her since Kaida had given her her 'make over' of sorts. She looked a lot different, older, more mature. Her personality, though, hadn't changed. She still had the same quiet demeanor, was still shy and self-conscious, still had trouble coming up with things to say. She was still every bit Isabella Weasley that she had been prior.

Things had been not so great lately for Adam, she knew that much. She had heard of Evan's meltdown in the Slytherin common room, how he had been drinking and swearing and refused to go to classes for a while. She knew word would have reached Adam of that, too, and she knew it couldn't be easy for him. He'd lost his family because of who he loved, and she thought it was ridiculous, ridiculous and sad. She also found herself wondering if she and Ben would ever find themselves in that situation. They'd already hit some bumps concerning what her family thought and certainly what his friends thought, but after the ordeal with Elena and Jacob over the summer, she wasn't exactly going to be pressing him to tell his family about her any time soon. She wasn't even sure they were official yet.

She got to the lake before Adam, and glanced over the water, sighing softly. Hopefully, this wasn't going to be an uncomfortable meeting. She missed her friend, and she hoped that all the changes in his life hadn't changed him so drastically that things would be awkward between them.

So she knew. Adam could honestly say he wasn't completely surprised to hear this. But instead of speaking, he granted her indulgence and allowed he to tell her everything she seemed only too eager to share. Was there no one in the castle she could trust to divulge these matters? It gave him another reason to desire to stay in the castle...

"It could just be thathe allows you to think that way. I don't know him as well as my brother, but from what little you've shared, I can't find it in myself to tell you to trust him. I don't think you should." His grip on her tightened. "You're fragile, Bella. You can so easily get hurt and I don't think I can stand knowing he's ripping you apart bit by bit, thinking he could just put you back together later whenever he felt like it."

Just then, another presence seemed to have joined them. Evan. Adam's blue eyes widened significantly as he gazed at his younger brother, appearing in a less than impeccable state in front of his eyes. As much as he was relived to see him, he dared not make any advancements. It had been too long a time since he has seen him, he was scared that an any sudden movement would scare him off. But the other's eyes were locked on his arm around his friend, words of falsities leaving his lips. This was something he will not stand for. "Putting malice where you shouldn't? You still haven't changed." he said unkindly.

Adam stood, pulling Bella with him. "I'm sorry, Bella. I'm afraid you must go." He kissed the top of her head. "I'll meet you some other time. You shouldn't be subjected to this- you don't deserve it."

Sharp eyes then returned to Evan. "Behold, the little boy who thinks he has gained the right to speak of maturity. Wipe off the smudged lipstick from your lips before you do, will you? Probably check your fly, fix your hair, tuck in your shirt?" Adam breathed in deep. He hadn't anticipated his next confrontation with Adam was going to be this cold, but what was he to do when he had no other choice. "I have an explanation. I've rehearsed it quite a few times in my mind, to be honest. If you're ready to listen to it- listen and not just hear- I will be more than happy to tell you. If not, I would rather you walk away and resume with not speakign to me. Because I had not envisioned our paths will cross this way, that we'll meet under this unfortunate circumstance. But we have. all we can do now, I suppose is prevent what damage that can be done. I don't want to argue with you, or fight with you. So if that's what you're looking for, you'd better leave before you get disappointed..."

"Adam-" she protested weakly, but as soon as she saw the look on Evan's face, she nodded slowly, moving to give him a quick side hug, before hurrying off into the night. "Bye."

Evan watched her go, glaring after her petite form. The little minx had bewitched Ben somehow, and now she'd found her way to Adam as well. Interesting. Perhaps Miss Isabella Weasley wasn't nearly as innocent as she seemed.

As soon as she was gone, he heard Adam's voice, sharp and bitter much as his own was. He let out a bark of a laugh at his lecture, reminded so much of their mother in that instant that if he'd had a higher voice, he would have accused him of being in disguise. "You're going to lecture me about looking like a proper gentleman? Really, Adam?" And he knew full well that his fly was not down, thanks very much. He made no move to correct anything Adam had brought up, instead staring at the boy who had once been his brother.

"You've rehearsed it, have you? An act for me? Well, go on then, I'd love to hear it." His voice was bitter, arms crossed over his chest as he glared at the taller, older version of himself.

"Quit it." Adam told Even off as he glared angrily at his friend. "Leave her out of this. She's a friend. I'm not even sure if you know what that meant, but don't bring her into this. She already has a lot on her mind..."

That laugh hurt his ears. He never thought he'd lived the day when his brother's anger would be directed towards him. He's always taken it upon himself to take care of him, guide him a times and it definitely hurt to be in the situation they're in. "Yes. You've never truly passed to be one." he said honestly. "You're still... a boy, Evan. Young, immature. Afraid to take on responsibilities. We both know this is true."

Adam would have snapped at him that this surely was't an act. In fact, never in his life had he felt so vulnerable, so breakable, but he would not deny himself this chance for his brother to hear him out. He never truly listened before. "I have but a few regrets in my life, Evan. I've lived my years following what was predestined for me. Father wanted specific things for me, that there truly wasn't any room to doubt or commit mistakes. He thought it all out for me, planned it carefully before I even think of it. It was just how things were before...

"But somewhere along the way, I felt as if I no longer know myself. I couldn't set who I am apart from what our Father wanted me to be. I felt lost. Don't get me wrong, I love Father with every fiber of my being. He became the basis for all my success, my acheivements that if it does not please him, none of it would matter. But I felt trapped almost, so I started to live the life I wanted in secret. It would displease him, yes, but I could not deprive myself from it. It seemed a good situation to be in- I could do what I want without disappointing him, for I still continue to be a good son, a good heir. It was even fun for a while...

"But then Westly came. I fell in love with him, Evan. I didn't expect I would ever feel this, neither did he. And with all the pressure weighing me down, I broke. I admit, perhaps I am too weak. I could not continue to live lying to myself and to father. I had two options, and I think you know which I've chosen." A pause. "I didn't do this for the intention of abandoning you. In fact, I beat myself up everyday for it, because if I could only stay and be your brother and be happy with the love of my life at the same time, I would. I would happily be those things for everyone, but it's an option I don't have. Father no longer wants me and I have no say in the matter...

"I don't expect you to forgive me now. I know that's perhaps something I have to work for- and I will. But I just wanted you to listen, to understand maybe, right now." Adam lowered his eyes for a second, to hide his eyes from the other. "I will never stop loving you, my brother. And I hope you know how much I miss you everyday..."

Evan listened to his brother's speech, quite long-winded and emotional, with a look of mild disinterest upon his features. Blah blah blah, I love my family, blah blah blah, I hid myself for years, blah blah blah, I couldn't take it anymore, blah blah blah, I fell in love with Westly Nott, blah blah blah, if I could only be both, blah blah blah, I love you so much, Evan, I miss you!

"So." Evan stared at him. "You love him so much that you gave up your family. But you miss us." It was nothing Evan hadn't heard before, nothing he hadn't expected. "What do you want me to say? It's nothing new, Adam. You love him more than us. I got it. You love him so much you're sneaking into the castle to see him- or, well." He chuckled. "Your other friends, too, it would seem. She's a prefect, too. I'd have thought Ben would be the one making her break all the rules. Who knew."
