Who: Isabella, Adam, and Evan
When: A few days after the dance
Where: By the lake
What: Isabella misses Adam, but Evan is not so happy to see him.
Rating: TBD, high for language later on

Isabella had been nervous to meet Adam. He hadn't seen her since Kaida had given her her 'make over' of sorts. She looked a lot different, older, more mature. Her personality, though, hadn't changed. She still had the same quiet demeanor, was still shy and self-conscious, still had trouble coming up with things to say. She was still every bit Isabella Weasley that she had been prior.

Things had been not so great lately for Adam, she knew that much. She had heard of Evan's meltdown in the Slytherin common room, how he had been drinking and swearing and refused to go to classes for a while. She knew word would have reached Adam of that, too, and she knew it couldn't be easy for him. He'd lost his family because of who he loved, and she thought it was ridiculous, ridiculous and sad. She also found herself wondering if she and Ben would ever find themselves in that situation. They'd already hit some bumps concerning what her family thought and certainly what his friends thought, but after the ordeal with Elena and Jacob over the summer, she wasn't exactly going to be pressing him to tell his family about her any time soon. She wasn't even sure they were official yet.

She got to the lake before Adam, and glanced over the water, sighing softly. Hopefully, this wasn't going to be an uncomfortable meeting. She missed her friend, and she hoped that all the changes in his life hadn't changed him so drastically that things would be awkward between them.

The past months hve not been good for the once-pampered rich boy that was Adam Pucey. Was. Past Tense. And such was a constant bug in his mind. Though he was by no means any real financial crisis, Adam's life hasn't been as easy as it had been when he sat high up in the pureblood circles at his father's right hand. It seemed then that his life was set. His father had developed the blueprints of his life even before he was born. He lived all his young life following the path laid out before he him obediently, and when all of it seemed too much for him to live up to, he strayed away from that road in private to seek for things that made him happy. Everything was in order, everything was where his life was supposed to be.

But somewhere along the way, he realized he could no longer live his two lives. Westly was a big part of that, and now, Westly seemed to be the single line that roped him to the ground. These days, he spends his days of solitude in his Venice home trying his hardest to ignore his regrets. It was painful, especially when he had no one to talk to. So during the week he'll visit Westly in Hogwarts, he's arranged to meet at least the few friend who haven't shun him even in his darkest time.

When he had met Westly in Hogsmeade there was no real need for disguises or covers. But with Bella, much caution was needed. He wasn't supposed to be on the grounds, that was why Adam had transformed into his animagi counterpart, Foxy and braved the forrests that surrounded Hogwarts towards the lake. It wasn't difficult to spot her, so after he had returned to his human form by the edge of the trees, he slowly approached her. "Waiting for someone?" he asked, smiling at her back.

Isabella jolted at the sound of the familiar voice, snapped out of her thoughts by his cheeky tone.

"Adam!" She turned to face him, a large smile upon her features as she took him in. He looked older, or she thought so, with his shorter hair and what appeared to be the beginnings of stubble. It wasn't just that, though, there was something in his face that instantly reminded her of what he had been through lately, and Isabella had to fight to keep her smile in place as she was reminded of what he'd just been through.

She moved closer to where he was standing, eyes bright as she looked up at him. "I feel like I haven't seen you in ages," she said softly, smile turning slightly sheepish as she remembered his offer to visit that she had never taken him up on. She still felt like a bit of a silly little girl around him. He was, after all, still quite good-looking and even in the few seconds between first hearing his voice and right that instant, she knew his charm was still in tact. The butterflies she'd always felt in his presence were coming back, though, she noted, they weren't nearly as noticeable as around a certain Slytherin boy. "I've... missed you."

"Hello, gorgeous." Adam returned the smile she gave him. That makeover she had been telling him about truly was a good one. The make up served to enhance her already pretty features, and it was no wonder why the boys in school seemed taken with her now. "And I do mean that. You look great, Bella." he told her.

"Yes, ages. It truly does feel that long since I've seen you. I cut my hair a bit. Did you notice?" Adam reached a hand up to mess it up a bit. "Does it look alright?" He watched her as she moved closer to him, a smile appearing in his lips at what she said. "I missed you, too, love." he told her, opening his arms for her. "Don't I get a hug? I was sort of hoping a few months of missing each other would call for a warmer gesture than just standing in front of each other..."

As per usual, Isabella's cheeks pinked as he complimented her. She had, honestly, been worried about what he might think, and it was a relief to hear he liked it. His opinion meant a lot, and she planned on getting it tonight about a certain Ben Goyle, though she had a bit of a feeling as to what what he was going to say when she brought it up.

"I did. It looks nice, Adam," she said with a smile. "It makes you look very mature. I like it." She watched him open his arms and moved to close the distance between them. "Sorry," she said, her cheeks hot against his chest as her arms wrapped around his middle. "I wasn't sure you wanted one."

Adam smiled, pleased to see those reddening cheeks again. The Weasley genes have always betrayed her, even back in the days they were library buddies in Hogwarts. It was refreshing to see someone he was so familiar with.

"Thanks. I'm glad you do." he smiled crookedly. "And yes, that was the goal. I thought the longer hair made me look, boyish. I needed a change from that, I thought." Adam took her in his arms readily, pulling her close against him. "Of course I wanted one. I'm a very physical being, dear Bella. I like these sort of things. Oh befor I forget..." He relesed her softly, took out something from his pocket and handed it to her. "A lollie." He remembered how he always gave him little treats back in the day. He wanted the chance to be able to do that again. "Just like old times." A smile.

It was highly unlikely that Isabella would ever not like something about Adam. He could get a bright green mohawk, and Isa would probably tell him he looked fantastic with that sheepish smile of hers.

"Old times?" she asked, letting out a soft laugh. "You make it seem like it was years ago. It's only been a few months, Adam." She supposed, though, that things had changed an awful lot since their days at the library. Adam had lost everything, and Isabella was walking the line with Ben, and she honestly didn't know which side she was going to end up on. "Thank you, though." She slid the lolipop into her pocket for later.

"Adam... I kind of... wanted to ask you... about Ben."

A light laugh rose from Adam's lips. "Well, it feels longer that that actually." he said truthfully. Time seemed to pass by too quickly for him, and in the days he's spent alone in his room felt too long. Just a day alone with out Westly was already an eternity wasted.

He looked at her deeply, taking in her eyes and the emotions that were so openly presnted to him there. "Ben?" Carefully, he gestured for her to follow him to a formtion of rocks near they lake's edge. He sat on one, and asked her to sit with him, patting the empty spot beside him. "What about him? Ask me anything, and I'll try to answer as best as I can."

Isabella followed him over to sit on the boulder, allowing herself to lean against him slightly. Adam was one of the people that, although she was constantly embarrassing herself around, she felt honestly comfortable with. She knew he didn't judge her, and she loved that. She hoped he knew he could tell her things. She had been shocked by the news that he was gay...er... bisexual? Dating Westly. But she had gotten over it. He was still Adam.

"I... well." She knew her blush was coming back in full force. "I really like him, but sometimes..." She sighed softly. "My sister hates his sister, for one thing." She fiddled with the hem of her shirt in her nervousness. "And the other day... I told you what happened with Evan. It was awful. I mean, I guess he made up for it, but it could happen again... I think he's embarrassed by me."

Adam had to wonder for a moment if the news of his 'coming out' had ever spread in Hogwwarts. Something like that- a pureblood heir running off to live with his male lover, who was another heir from a pureblood court- was truly controversial. Plus, with the way he had heard Evan was behaving, word was bound to spread. But Bella didn't seem to have changed in the slightest, not even in the way she spoke to him. Could it be that she hasn't heard of what has happened to him in the past months?

Adam listened quietly when the other started to speak of Ben. Clearly, the girl was positively smitten by the boy. Hoping to comfort her, he wound an arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him. "There are certain things you have to consider, Bella. He's a pureblood male, a Goyle. There are always expectations from us, whether one's a first-born or other wise. He has responsibilities to uphold his legacy, to fulfill his destiny despite how corny that sounds. We... live an entirely different world from you do, and it's a world I don't think you can fully understand unless you've become a part of it. All I can say is Ben's... struggling." he said. "In that way I can relate to him completely. But... he can't keep on hurting you the way he does. You ca't let him." A pause. "Can you honestly tell me that you believe he cares about you more than his reputation?"

"I know," she said softly. "I know it isn't easy for him, but he's just gotten into his head that he's this... complete jerk when he's not that at all. I know he isn't because I've seen how he acts around me, and it's so different..." She sighed. "You and Westly... you two were different than Ben and I. You kept each other a secret to protect each other." And she, for one, could hardly believe two people who were in love enough to give up their families for each other were strong enough to keep it a secret for so long.

"I think... he does. Or I like to think he does. He went to the dance with me to make up denying me." She smiled sheepishly. "Of course, he didn't dance with me until someone else offered first, and he got..." She looked up, hearing approaching footsteps. "Jealous..."

It was Evan Pucey who stood behind them, eyes dark as he stared at the two of them. "Well, I can't say I expected to see this." Isabella took in the sight of him, ruffled hair, rumpled clothing. Evan Pucey had clearly just come from a rendevouz with a lady friend. "I suppose Westly isn't quite as precious to you as you made him out to be." His looked pointedly at the arm draped around Isabella's shoulders. "And I imagine Benjamin will be thrilled to hear it." Isabella's eyes widened.

"Evan- no, we aren't-"

Evan looked uninterested. "So you abandoned us for nothing? Just couldn't handle the pressure of being first-born son so you threw it on someone else? Mature, Adam."

So she knew. Adam could honestly say he wasn't completely surprised to hear this. But instead of speaking, he granted her indulgence and allowed he to tell her everything she seemed only too eager to share. Was there no one in the castle she could trust to divulge these matters? It gave him another reason to desire to stay in the castle...

"It could just be thathe allows you to think that way. I don't know him as well as my brother, but from what little you've shared, I can't find it in myself to tell you to trust him. I don't think you should." His grip on her tightened. "You're fragile, Bella. You can so easily get hurt and I don't think I can stand knowing he's ripping you apart bit by bit, thinking he could just put you back together later whenever he felt like it."

Just then, another presence seemed to have joined them. Evan. Adam's blue eyes widened significantly as he gazed at his younger brother, appearing in a less than impeccable state in front of his eyes. As much as he was relived to see him, he dared not make any advancements. It had been too long a time since he has seen him, he was scared that an any sudden movement would scare him off. But the other's eyes were locked on his arm around his friend, words of falsities leaving his lips. This was something he will not stand for. "Putting malice where you shouldn't? You still haven't changed." he said unkindly.

Adam stood, pulling Bella with him. "I'm sorry, Bella. I'm afraid you must go." He kissed the top of her head. "I'll meet you some other time. You shouldn't be subjected to this- you don't deserve it."

Sharp eyes then returned to Evan. "Behold, the little boy who thinks he has gained the right to speak of maturity. Wipe off the smudged lipstick from your lips before you do, will you? Probably check your fly, fix your hair, tuck in your shirt?" Adam breathed in deep. He hadn't anticipated his next confrontation with Adam was going to be this cold, but what was he to do when he had no other choice. "I have an explanation. I've rehearsed it quite a few times in my mind, to be honest. If you're ready to listen to it- listen and not just hear- I will be more than happy to tell you. If not, I would rather you walk away and resume with not speakign to me. Because I had not envisioned our paths will cross this way, that we'll meet under this unfortunate circumstance. But we have. all we can do now, I suppose is prevent what damage that can be done. I don't want to argue with you, or fight with you. So if that's what you're looking for, you'd better leave before you get disappointed..."

"Adam-" she protested weakly, but as soon as she saw the look on Evan's face, she nodded slowly, moving to give him a quick side hug, before hurrying off into the night. "Bye."

Evan watched her go, glaring after her petite form. The little minx had bewitched Ben somehow, and now she'd found her way to Adam as well. Interesting. Perhaps Miss Isabella Weasley wasn't nearly as innocent as she seemed.

As soon as she was gone, he heard Adam's voice, sharp and bitter much as his own was. He let out a bark of a laugh at his lecture, reminded so much of their mother in that instant that if he'd had a higher voice, he would have accused him of being in disguise. "You're going to lecture me about looking like a proper gentleman? Really, Adam?" And he knew full well that his fly was not down, thanks very much. He made no move to correct anything Adam had brought up, instead staring at the boy who had once been his brother.

"You've rehearsed it, have you? An act for me? Well, go on then, I'd love to hear it." His voice was bitter, arms crossed over his chest as he glared at the taller, older version of himself.

"Quit it." Adam told Even off as he glared angrily at his friend. "Leave her out of this. She's a friend. I'm not even sure if you know what that meant, but don't bring her into this. She already has a lot on her mind..."

That laugh hurt his ears. He never thought he'd lived the day when his brother's anger would be directed towards him. He's always taken it upon himself to take care of him, guide him a times and it definitely hurt to be in the situation they're in. "Yes. You've never truly passed to be one." he said honestly. "You're still... a boy, Evan. Young, immature. Afraid to take on responsibilities. We both know this is true."

Adam would have snapped at him that this surely was't an act. In fact, never in his life had he felt so vulnerable, so breakable, but he would not deny himself this chance for his brother to hear him out. He never truly listened before. "I have but a few regrets in my life, Evan. I've lived my years following what was predestined for me. Father wanted specific things for me, that there truly wasn't any room to doubt or commit mistakes. He thought it all out for me, planned it carefully before I even think of it. It was just how things were before...

"But somewhere along the way, I felt as if I no longer know myself. I couldn't set who I am apart from what our Father wanted me to be. I felt lost. Don't get me wrong, I love Father with every fiber of my being. He became the basis for all my success, my acheivements that if it does not please him, none of it would matter. But I felt trapped almost, so I started to live the life I wanted in secret. It would displease him, yes, but I could not deprive myself from it. It seemed a good situation to be in- I could do what I want without disappointing him, for I still continue to be a good son, a good heir. It was even fun for a while...

"But then Westly came. I fell in love with him, Evan. I didn't expect I would ever feel this, neither did he. And with all the pressure weighing me down, I broke. I admit, perhaps I am too weak. I could not continue to live lying to myself and to father. I had two options, and I think you know which I've chosen." A pause. "I didn't do this for the intention of abandoning you. In fact, I beat myself up everyday for it, because if I could only stay and be your brother and be happy with the love of my life at the same time, I would. I would happily be those things for everyone, but it's an option I don't have. Father no longer wants me and I have no say in the matter...

"I don't expect you to forgive me now. I know that's perhaps something I have to work for- and I will. But I just wanted you to listen, to understand maybe, right now." Adam lowered his eyes for a second, to hide his eyes from the other. "I will never stop loving you, my brother. And I hope you know how much I miss you everyday..."

Evan listened to his brother's speech, quite long-winded and emotional, with a look of mild disinterest upon his features. Blah blah blah, I love my family, blah blah blah, I hid myself for years, blah blah blah, I couldn't take it anymore, blah blah blah, I fell in love with Westly Nott, blah blah blah, if I could only be both, blah blah blah, I love you so much, Evan, I miss you!

"So." Evan stared at him. "You love him so much that you gave up your family. But you miss us." It was nothing Evan hadn't heard before, nothing he hadn't expected. "What do you want me to say? It's nothing new, Adam. You love him more than us. I got it. You love him so much you're sneaking into the castle to see him- or, well." He chuckled. "Your other friends, too, it would seem. She's a prefect, too. I'd have thought Ben would be the one making her break all the rules. Who knew."
