It was a night that had been the root of Phoenix Malfoy's excitement for many sleepless nights, but not for the reason others around him seemed to be. Anticipation and longing, feelings that which were foreign for the young Malfoy had been a constant since the last time he had seen Dominique. It had been a long while since he had something that held so much of his interest, held so much promise that losing it would be the cause for much despair and regret on his part. With her, it was all too effortless to no longer hide- to just be himself and have her acceptance. He knew the conncetion between them that he had allowed to grow was getting stronger, but instead of feeling imprisoned, enslaved by the emotions he was unwilling to feel, he has ceased fighting against them and embrace such emotions. He fought for her, and his very being believed it was the right thing. Happiness used to be a luxury in his world, but she seemed to effortlessly give it to him every moment they were together. How could he possibly turn away from the only person who has ever made him feel so alive?

It wasn't too difficult to discover that the day held much more reason for celebration. Dominique's birthday was today, and as Phoenix paced the empty classroom they had agreed to meet in in his formal robes he could feel his fingers tingle with anticipation as he waited for her arrival. He had perceived it only suitable for her to attend the Ball with her family, with her friends. She deserved her happiness for the evening, and with the small dinner set-up he has assembled in the room, he only hoped he could give her more of it. Candles were strewn across the dark stone floor, some floating in level with him on the area that surrounded the decorated table, bathing the room with a faint orange glow. He would have preferred to use a more decent table and chair set that the unused ones he was left with, but he would work with whatever he had. After minutes fo silent pacing, he took a seat on one of the chairs, his face set on his usual cool expression, despite the hard thrumming of his heart, hands tapping against the wooden desk as his anticipation slowly crawled towards its peak with every passing second...

Mini had stayed until halfway through the ball, which was longer than what she had first planned on. But staying longer meant she could make up a more credible excuse like saying she was tired. It was easier to believe she was tired when she had spent more than an hour talking and dancing than just half an hour. And she had fun, but not nearly as much as she knew she would've had if she had been with Phoenix. He made it all better, and he didn't even need to speak to do it. Just being next to him put a smile on her face instantly, she had been hiding it lately though, so no one would suspect.

Once she was out of the ball and after making a quick stop on the bathroom to make sure her makeup and hair were still perfect, she made her way to the empty classroom being sure that no one was following her. When she was outside the room, she smoothed her dress before opening the door and slipping into the room. Her breath got caught up in her throat when she saw the candles and the dinner-set up. She had not been expecting any of that, just Phoenix waiting for her with a small smile on his face. But what she saw made her smile and blush. And for the first time that day, her smile was genuine. "Hi." She said softly, walking toward him.

The strange elation that overwhelemed him at the first feel of her distinct presence, caused him to stand on his feet as she entered the room. His breath got caught in his throat as he drank in the sight of her, instantly in awe. He crossed the room to her, meeting her half way. "Hi." was his gentle responce, his tone silent but warm. "You look even better than I pictured." His hand circled one of her thin wrists while the other moved behind her to throw a locking charm on the door he had just closed, then a silencing charm over their confined space. "How was the Ball?" he asked, leading her to one of the chairs. "Your cheeks are flushed. Did you dance with anyone?" His voice remained conversational, neutral. Surprisingly, the thought of any other man dancing with her didn't summon the jealousy that could have arose in others. He had requested that she danced with someone else, but he knew if it could only be up to him, she would only have stayed in his arms for the entire evening.

Mini smiled at him. "Thank you. You look very good." The moment he touched her, a warm feeling washed over her and she felt her cheeks become hotter. It had been so long since she got that feeling, probably since the last time they spoke. And she missed it, she missed the way he made her cheeks flush and how he always noticed it and asked if she was cold. It was cute.

She gave him a nod as she let him take her to the chairs. "With a few boys, but mainly with my brother and my cousins." She hadn't been in the mood to dance with anyone, really; but she had promised him, so she danced with a couple of boys from her year.

The air around him once again smelled of her, or her sweet subtle cologne. It was one that Phoenix had grown accustomed to, and now that it was at its most potent he felt a sudden rush of ease loosen his bones. A small nod was given at her offered compliment as he led her to her chair, his hand still lose around her wrist. An arrangement of Casablaca Liles was propped on the center of the table, but a bouquet of red and white flowers - jasmins, lilies and roses- was gently placed on her side of the table. "These are all yours," he said gesturing to both flower arrangements, but took the red and white bouquet and gave it to her. All of them still held the mean thats alaay attached to his gifts, and he wondered how long the other will decipher them. He pulled out his chair for her, and waited for her to take her seat, a smile -his smile for her- on his features. "Were you able to enjoy yourself then?"

Mini looked at the flower arrangements and smiled. He had been the only boy that had ever brought her flowers -- she wasn't counting that boy back at home that took the flowers from her mum's garden and pretended he had bought them -- and he always seem to know which one to get for each special moment. "Thank you. They're lovely." She took the bouquet in her hands and brought it closer to her to smell it. She loved the way jasmins smelt, and it mixed so well with the roses.

Her eyes dropped from his to his lips for a moment, and she saw his smile. It was her smile, the one he had for her. Her own lips curled into a smile and she nodded in reply. "I did. But not as much as I will now." She said as she sat down.

Mini grinned, giving him a little nod. "It's a done." Now she would definitely try find out for herself.

"I think that's a good idea." She replied, smiling softly at him. She had noticedit too, they didn't dance at the Christmas Ball and she would've loved that. Mini loved to dance and she was curious to know about his dancing abilities. "We could dance now if you want. And later too." She smiled, taking one last bite of her food and swallowing just ij case he decided to dance now. The food would probably get cold, but she didn't really care. She wasn't there for the food.

Phoenix's eyes lit up with silent admiration at the other's confidence. "So certain you're going to discover it?" he asked. "Do you have connections I should know about? Or perhaps should be worried about?"

At her encouragement, Phoenix took his napkin and quickly dabbed the corners of his lips for any food residue. He stood on his light feet and made his way towards her. A hand reached out to take hers, and tugged encouragingly. "There'e no better time than the present, I suppose." he offered, smiling. "May I have the honor of this dance?"

"Of course I am." Mini let out a soft laugh. "I don't think you should be worried... At least for know." She added, smiling playfully. Maybe she could trick her brother into finding out; or ask that blonde fifth year that was unusually friendly for a Slytherin... Well, she would think about it in another time. Now she wanted to enjoy the evening with him.

She watched him get up and take her hand, which she gladly let him take, and smiled. "You may." She said softly, raising from her chair.
