Alone again. No matter how many times it happened, or how often he told himself that it was for the best, there was always a part of the Doctor that died every time he had to say his version of goodbye. But still, it was better to be alone. After all, he'd almost just lost everyone he'd ever cared about, all at once. How could he be so unbelievably selfish to resent the fact that they were all living their lives now? It didn't matter. He'd just go on with his life, like he always did. It was the only thing to be done.
Walking around the TARDIS, the Doctor ran his fingers along the controls in an idle fashion, trying to decide where he'd go. Trying to pick the perfect place, the perfect setting, to distract himself with, but nothing was coming. All he could see as he looked at his ship was the people that had piloted it with him. His friends, his companions. His family.
Before a button was pressed, before a decision was made, the TARDIS roared to life, knocking the Doctor onto his ass. He scrambled back up, fumbling for the controls. "Not again. Not again! NO! Come on!" he begged, not daring to wonder at what hell he'd walk into this time.
Just as suddenly as it had started, the noise stopped and the TARDIS was still. Still, silent, and completely unresponsive. "What? WHAT?!" he squeaked, staring at the monitors and controls as if he were expecting them to jump back into operational status and yell 'April Fool!' But there was nothing to be done, at the present at least. He'd might as well figure out where the hell he'd landed this time.
Opening the door to the TARDIS, the Doctor shut it firmly behind him and then looked around. A medieval setting, sure, but it was commercialized, fake, definitely not the time period he was used to. Looking around further, he realised this wasn't even a planet he was used to. This wasn't a planet he'd ever heard of! "Where the hell am I?" he wondered aloud, pulling at his hair with one hand and looking decidedly confused.
