WHO: Marcus and Jareth WHAT: A confrontation WHEN: A week after the painful separation WHERE: The castle at the heart of the Goblin City
Marcus stood on the stone steps, banging the butt of his pike against the heavy wooden door. "Come out and face me, Jareth, you monster!" he bellowed. "Show yourself and answer for what you've done, fiend!" The space behind the door resounded with the booming of his aggression. He was so close. He wasn't going to let it end here.
After Marcus had shaken off his despair at the loss of his beloved Tonks, that emotion had been replace by anger and determination. Anger at the cruel act that Jareth must have knowingly committed, and determination to find the monarch and let him have a piece of his mind. He had realized that there was no point in moping about in a world without Tonks. Either he would force the Goblinking to bring Tonks back, he would persuade him to send him to where she was, or he would die trying. Driven by these emotions, he had gone back to the Labyrinth and continued the trip that had been so quickly interrupted the first time.
Jareth must have known he was coming. The threats were many and the situations dire. Marcus did not believe he was blessed, but he knew he was driven and there was nothing he would let stand in the way of the confrontation he had chosen. Finally, bruised, battered, scratched, and sore, the Ranger stood triumphantly before the front door of the man who held his salvation in his power.
