Day Two - Realisation Sets In
WHO: Helena and Gabrielle
WHAT: Helena starts to panic
WHEN: Day 2
WHERE: Watching the Jousting
RATING: PG for possible swears
STATUS: Incomplete

Helena wiped the tears from her eyes and kept walking. She had been walking around the strange ren fair for the better part of 6 hours, looking for something, ANYTHING that would prove her fears wrong. The room she had a key to was stale and unfamiliar, the journal kept filling up with strange peoples thoughts, and as much as it all seemed like a dream, like it should be a dream, Helena was growing more and more fearful that it wasn't.

For one thing, she was hungry. Starving even. She didn't get hungry in dreams normally. Secondly, there was the smells. Dreams didn't have smells, but she could distinctly smell everything around her. Then there was the moment when she tripped over a tent rope and fell down, grazing her hand on the ground and drawing blood. That was when it hit her. One thing she was sure of; people didn't feel pain in dreams.

So she watched the sun rise and started to walk. Around and around, the place seemed to have no borders. So much like a dream and yet... she was confused, dirty, hungry and tired, but above all things Helena was scared. The tiny part of her that still clung to the idea, to the hope that she would wake at any moment, it dwindled with every passing moment until she stopped in her tracks and gave in to sobbing.

She was lost, and she wanted to go home.

Gabrielle was doing alright. She had her best friend by her side, and this was just another of their strange adventures. After all, the two had been through incredible things. This was simply one more, although odder than most. But she knew they would get through it, like they got through everything.

Still, she figured she might as well look around, get familiar with this place. Even if they did find a way home, it couldn't hurt to have an idea of what was going on here. At the very worst, it would be useless information, but to Gabrielle, such a thought was pretty much impossible. And, of course, if they had to stay... well, the information she gathered now would be invaluable.

So, she rolled out of the strange bed which she shared with Xena, stretched, and got dressed. She would meet up with the Warrior Princess later, she had no doubt of that. For now, though, she'd go look around. Maybe see what she could do about getting some food. But she found herself distracted by the fighting. The men who fought were quite strange looking... or, rather, they weren't. They had faces that just seemed to disappear from the mind right after looking away. It was bizarre.

Gabrielle was pulled away from her thoughtful contemplation of the fighting by a strange sound. She frowned and concentrated. It wasn't hard to pick it out, really, even with all the noise around. Someone was crying. The kind-hearted bard was touched, and quickly followed her ears to the sound. A girl stood nearby, sobbing right where she stood. Gabrielle stopped in front of her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey... what's wrong?" She thought about that. "Other than being kidnapped by a jerk for some unknown reason, I mean."
