Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:complete, day two, jack harkness, rose tyler

WHO: Jack Harkness & Rose Tyler
WHEN: Day Two, evening
WHAT: Two very old friends finally run into each other. Unexpectedly.
WHERE: Ren Faire. Why, no, Jack isn't checking out men in tights.
RATING: TBA
STATUS: Complete

Day one was mostly a blur as far as Jack Harkness was concerned. He'd gotten his key and his diary, met an interesting bloke or five and had quickly escaped to the room he was provided. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, with absolutely nothing familiar. No Hub, no Cardiff, no nothing.

While Jack may have been used to this whole bounding about through the galaxy thing he certainly didn't fancy being plucked from his bed and tossed to universes unknown. Rather rude if you asked him.

Still, after spending the whole of the first day in his room, prodding at his wrist strap and hoping that the King's warning about never leaving was nothing more than an empty threat (because, really, a 'space hopper' should have been enough to get him out of here), Jack knew he had to get out before he drove himself bonkers. The second day brought exploration, still meeting others and trying to make the best of the situation. By mid-evening, Jack found himself at the Ren Faire -- which wasn't a bad place to be as far as Jack was concerned.

Men in tights and women wearing corsets. It was a dream come true.

Given Jack's track record with them, they were impossible to resist. He had tried, failed and had over the course of the years resigned himself to his fate. Truth be told, Jack wondered how he would have been in terms of his personality had he not encountered the Doctor and Rose -- but decided very quickly that it was something he didn't want to contemplate.

"I'll let you in on a secret," Jack murmured, tipping her head up ever so slightly."Until I saw the Doctor again, I thought you were too. I thought Canary Wharf had been your end. Never saw your name, but still..." He had been afraid that she'd been a victim of that whole debacle and he would have (figuratively speaking) wanted to kill himself if he let anything happen to her.

No, he wasn't their Doctor but in a sense, he was as close to the man as they'd get at the present. If both of them had been caught up in all of this, perhaps it was possible for others to come. Jack wouldn't turn down an opportunity to see the Doctor again. Not in the slightest.

Jack nudged Rose ever so slightly, moving her to the side so h e could fully sit on the chair, pulling her into his arms when the armrest wasn't making itself intimately known. (And, really, to dig into his arse like that, he should be bought dinner first.) Jack carded his fingers through her hair, taking as much comfort from their closeness as she most likely was. "I agree Rose Tyler," Jack said, closing his eyes and resting his cheek against her temple. "Not that it isn't easy to strike up friendships? Or... anything else besides," He said, laughing. "But I'd choose you and the Doctor anyday to travel with. Or be stuck in the middle of some godforsaken universe." The laugh turned bitter for a moment. "At least there aren't any Daleks around. Thank god for small favours."

Rose curled up against him automatically. He was awfully warm for a dead man. Her arms slid around his middle and her head buried against his chest. It was an instinctive move, like a child seeking comfort while wounded. "I did die," she whispered, the words spoken against his chest. "As far as your world is concerned, Mum and I both died that day. We're on the list of the dead, if you read." And a part of her really had died. Maybe not in the physical sense, but she'd been entirely numb since she'd been left on the other side of the wall. Little made her happy anymore, with the exception of watching Tony play or working on her dimension cannon.

She absently rubbed circles into those previously discussed well-worked abdominals, finding comfort in any sort of touch. "I've met some pretty strange people here," she admitted, though a tiny, tired smile played across her features. "But some really wonderful ones, too. Some of them seem really...nice. Is it wrong to admit that?" It felt like she ought to hate everyone involved in this world keeping her from her mission. But she couldn't, because some of them had been so bloody accepting, and who was she to fight that? It was like the old days, really, finding a new adventure in a new world and meeting the people and acclimating to them there.

Carefully, she swung her legs over the tops of his so she was all but nestled in his lap. But really, there was only so much room in the chair and they both should be comfortable, after all. "Kinda missed this, you know." She'd loved it, annoying the Doctor hand in hand with Jack. Sure, part of her had hoped it was making him jealous, but having Jack on board had also been a bit like having her very own playmate and cuddle buddy.

Everything about Jack was extremely warm-blooded, thank you very much. The dead part had nothing to do with it. He just couldn't die, that didn't mean that he was a walking zombie or anything -- that was Owen's gig, not his. The words she spoke may have been muffled but Jack could make them out. No, he had seen the lists -- had seen her name, he was too used to lying and too used to making others believe what he wanted them to. "I know," he finally said, voice soft. He'd felt a part of himself die when he read her name and he had no desire to relive that feeling.

Jack made a sound of contentment in the back of his throat as her hands moved across his stomach. It felt better than he expected it to, this contact between them. He closed his eyes, breathing in her scent and just taking comfort. "No, it's not wrong to admit that. We've both met people spread all across the galaxies and there isn't anything wrong with saying some of them are nice. Hell, too? If we're stuck here with them, may as well make friends." Though, truth be told, Jack's definition of 'friends' was very different from most.

She swung around and one of Jack's hands came to rest on her arse, pulling her in close. And maybe his hand stayed there, getting in a quick grope as well. Jack was only human -- if an immortal one at that. "Missed it too," Jack replied, his other arm wrapping around her, that pesky hand on her arse giving another squeeze. Yes, Jack was shameless and he knew it. "Hell, I was afraid I'd never see you again. Having you here? Is just bloody fantastic."

Rose gave a tiny yelp, but was too weak from the night's revelations to do anything in retaliation but giggle and roll her eyes. "Scoundrel, indeed," she scolded, but her head still found a place in the crook of his neck and she didn't make any sort of effort to pull away. In fact, she sort of welcomed the contact, no matter how impish it might've been. It'd been an awfully long time since she'd let anyone touch her, especially so intimately. If she allowed too much physical comfort, it would make the whole ordeal real. She snuggled Tony, partially because he was just a baby and had no control over her life, and partially because he hadn't been there when the world had fallen apart on her. And, from time to time, when she desperately needed it, she'd fall into Jackie's arms, exhausted and weary. Even Mickey's attempts at comfort were shrugged off, and she'd known him nearly her whole life.

"I guess if we're stuck here, there are worse people I could be stuck with," she teased, breathing in that smell that was distinctly Jack. She'd grown to rely so much on her senses, and scent had become a huge one for her. Perhaps it was the way the Doctor had always been able to gain clues about everything by his sense of smell, or maybe it was just her strongest point, but it was a bit easier. "I mean, witches? Please, I can deal with that. 51st Century Time Agents? Tolerable." So long as they were Dalek-free, she figured she was making out just fine.

Her eyes closed slightly as she listened to the steady beat of his heart. It wasn't that long hoped-for rhythm of two hearts beating in time together, but it was nearly as good considering the fact that his heart was beating at all, and she'd been so afraid it wasn't. "You're terribly comfortable, you know that? S'like, you should be all hard and uncomfy, being all muscle, but you're not." And now she was rambling, and would likely regret it in the morning, but he'd seen her during some pretty miserable times, so this couldn't be much worse.

That, however, didn't stop her from reaching behind her and moving his hand up slightly to the small of her back. A sly smile played on her face, though she never opened her eyes.

Jack knew that there was very little that he could do that would cause Rose to pull away. Outside of openly groping her front -- which, well, tempting but he didn't fancy the accompanying slap. Not when they were the only ones here and he needed Rose for companionship. So he'd refrain from the open groping and just go for the hand on the arse.

"I could think of a couple people," Jack replied, mind instantly picturing the Master or an army of Daleks. Those, though, were definitely the worst case scenarios. "Besides, things are always more fun when I'm here, aren't they?" He asked, lightly rubbing her back, his cheek resting against her hair. The scent was so uniquely Jack-- the 51st century pheromones he had always teased Ianto about. "Us Time Agentsare only tolerable?" Jack asked. "I think I should be offended."

Jack smiled, resting back against the chair and arranging Rose all the more comfortably in his lap. He honestly had no intention of moving for quite some time and Jack had a feeling Rose felt the same way."Oh, I've heard it once or twice," Jack said with a chuckle. "Or maybe that's a couple hundred times. A man loses track after a while." Grinning, Jack tightened his arms around Rose, taking as much comfort from their closeness as he could. "It's all in where the muscle is," Jack said. "And, surprisingly, I look even better now under all this than I did on Satellite 5. You'll have to investigate."

Rolling his eyes as she moved his hand, he let it rest there for a moment before moving it back to her arse. "For support, y'see," he said, even though his grin was lost. Jack may not have been able to drift off to sleep, but he didn't mind serving as a warm-blooded body pillow either.
