WHO:  The Unicorn/Amalthea [ [info]the_unicorn ] & OPEN
WHAT: Amalthea goes wondering
WHEN: Day 12, afternoon
WHERE: Illusion City, Monoply Board
WARNINGS: PG/PG13, nothing too bad here folks.
STATUS: Incomplete

The unicorn had spent the entire next day following her arrival in the small dorm room she had been lead to by the goblin. The vile creature had explained that she would find human clothes, a magical book to write her thoughts in, and that if she wished to talk to Jareth personally that she would have to make her way through the King's Labyrinth. With so many changes, the Unicorn found she had little desire to leave her room. She did not sleep or eat, and only once or twice did she dare to peer out of her dorm's room and into the hallways around her. She noticed others, but made sure to be careful that no one noticed her. Part of her actually missed the company of Schemendrick and Molly, at least they would have been able to offer some words. Schemendrick could have possibly reversed this magical castophropy.

She had found a pale lavender gown laid out over a table, if she hadn't recalled the shape of the material she might have never thought it was something to wear. It took the unicorn far too long to figure out which spots to slip her arms into, and how exactly to ensure it was on properly. It surprised her to find that the dress fit her comfortably, it was soft and flowed lightly, and barely had any weight to it at all. It had been around dawn, when the Unicorn emerged from her room. With not a soul in site, she begun to walk barefoot in one direction.

She wasn't sure what she would find, eventually a city - one populated with more Goblins. Most of them looked at her in disgust, others stopped to laugh. A fair few solemnly acknowledged her for what she was, she thanked them and proceeded on her way. It was afternoon when she found the buildings had given away to an open landscaped. One filled with shiny metal tokens, three to four times larger than she was. Confused the young woman stopped and stared in an attempt to figure out what was going on here.

Olive's head was bursting with new information. The man she was in love with, the man she'd known for how many years, had kept a secret from her that was SO incredibly huge she was still trying to process it. She had barely slept the night before and she woke much too early in the morning. She was too awake to think of going back to sleep, though, so she dressed in a slim fitting dress that accentuated her generous chest and slender hips. It didn't quite fall to her knees, but on any other normal sized woman it would have had ass hanging out of it.

The day seemed as if it would actually be kind of nice, but she didn't hold out any hope and took along a cardigan to pull over her shoulders if it got chilly. The weather around here changed as much as the landscape. It was down right infuriating. Once she was outside, however, she stopped dead in her tracks. What the...?

Her eyes moved, but her head remained as still as the rest of her body. She was in shock. Yesterday there had been an amusement park. Today, there was... giant game boards? Chess pieces easily Ned's height, if not bigger, loomed above her. In the distance she could see cheery rolling hills with lollipops lining a pathway. It was like some twisted Hansel and Gretel story come to life. Not that it didn't intrigue her.

When she got over her shock enough to move her feet, she ventured further into the realm of games. She passed a giant chess board, a giant backgammon board, a humongous Sorry board and a rather frightening looking gigantic Mouse Trap game. She scurried past that one, hoping to whatever god would listen that the mice were still inanimate. In her haste she dang near plowed right into a very blond woman.

"Yikes! Sorry!" She stopped when she noticed that the woman was staring at an inhuman sized Monopoly game board. "Holy Giant Irons, Batman!" Olive stared at it and then hopped onto the board. "This... is awesome!" She spoke in a hushed half-whisper before turning back to Amalthea. "Hi! I'm Olive. I don't think I've seen you before."

Amalthea's small figure recovered easily at the sudden collision. It did not take her long to get used to walking on two legs, instead of four. It was everything else that was taking some getting use to. She turned just enough to allow her purple eyes to find Olive. Unsure of Olive's motives at first, the unicorn stood as still as the trees and waited.

When Olive spoke, she slowly allowed herself to relax. It didn't seem like she was out to cause harm. Instead of speaking, Amalthea shook her head and looked back up to the things that had been called 'awesome'. She was still unsure of what they were.

"No ... I'm new here." She reminded herself to keep her replies simple, not wishing to draw attention to herself.

Olive stood still and looked at the woman with unabashed curiosity. She was beautiful and rather pale. Olive's heart suddenly stopped beating for a few seconds. Only a few days ago Olive was saying how she didn't want to meet a vampire. Where was Ned when she needed protection?

"Uh huh." If there was one thing about Olive, it was her habit of being direct. "Are you a vampire?" She crossed her arms under her expansive chest and lifted a dark blond brow. If the answer was yes, Olive was going to bolt off in some direction, she hadn't figured out which yet. If the answer was no, she might be able to handle sticking around a while longer.

She was now lamenting the fact that she had so easily given away her name and the other hadn't offered hers. "What's your name, anyway?"

The unicorn found herself aghast as Olive asked if she was a vampire. The unicorn had never exactly met one of those creatures herself, but stories of them kissed the winds and lips of travelers. They never sounded like pleasant beings, humans who cheated death and worse drank the blood of others. It sounded as revolting to her now as it did back then.

"No," was her simple answer as she gracefully put some distance between herself and the other woman. Her hands came up to brace her fragile body against one of the tall metal structures. "You can call me, Amalthea... do you know what these things are?"

She felt strange asking the other if she knew what these tall formations were, they did not appear to be statues. She only assumed as such, because down the road she had found other goblins playing with tall things on a similar surface.

The negative answer relieved Olive somewhat, as did the look of horror on the woman's face. Anyone who looked that offended at being called a vampire, really must not be one. Olive nodded, happy with this news. "Good."

Olive heard the name, but it sounded so strange. She had never heard anything like it. She said it to herself a few times in her head before she repeated it aloud. "Nice to meet you, Amalthea." She tilted her head slightly, causing her blond bob to follow. "Well, yes. Sort of. It's a giant board game called Monopoly. I've played it before, but it was never this big. Usually those pieces are small enough for all of them to sit in the palm of your hand."

Olive glanced around. It felt just as strange to be explaining away giant board games as it was for Amalthea to ask. And because Amalthea had to ask, that meant she didn't recognize them and probably had never played them. Which could only mean one thing. She wasn't from Olive's time. She was either from a time before board games, or from a different world altogether. Which wasn't exactly strange, there were people from all sorts of times and worlds here. "Where are you from, anyway?" No, Olive wasn't afraid of being direct.

Amalthea gave a nod in return to the greeting, and then curiously glanced back over the board game as Olive informed her it was a giant board game. The word game was not strange to her, but she was left to assume this one was from some other strange place. It seemed this King was not without a sense of humor, he wish to keep this 'guests' entertained. The Unicorn was extremely bothered, but it did not show in the slightest on her face.

When Olive asked where she was from, the Unicorn chose to remain quiet for a few moments. "Far away ... even further from where I was taken. It has no name." She had not been home in such a long time, and thinking about her glade, and how winter must be settling in and her beloved creatures being exposed to the cold months. She longed terribly to be back home, to be safe in her woods. The Unicorn now knew it was folly to have ever left in the first place. She had been wrong to try and find the others, and to think she stood a chance against the red bull.

Her fragile looking arms wound tightly around her thin waist and dug into the lavender fabric. She could feel her skin tearing beneath, being in this body was still so sickening. How did humans do it?

Olive nodded slowly to the woman's answer of where she was from. A place with no name. Was that like if a tree fell in the forest but there was no one there to hear it does it still make a sound? Yeah, no. She shook her head, clearing it of strange thoughts and gave a partial smile. "Well, I'm from Couer de Couer, and I'd really like to go home." Just as long as Ned went home with her. It wasn't home without him, after all.

Olive watched Amalthea for a moment, wondering at her stoic face. She seemed uncomfortable, even if it didn't entirely show on her features. "We can play if you like. I could teach you. It isn't difficult." Olive hopped up onto the board and looked down at her feet as she stepped onto Park Place. She wished there was a board this huge back home, it would have been much more interesting.

"I have never heard of Couer de Couer," though from what Simon had told her briefly, there were many people here from many different places. She wondered if in these places, creatures like herself lived or even existed at all. She thought it best not to ask, or draw attention to the matter.

Amalthea's purple eyes gazed downward toward the board game, she was on a square marked Boardwalk and she tilted her head curiously. She wasn't sure what it said beneath her, but she knew it was writing of some kind. "Do these symbols mean something?"

"Really? Well, it's just a small town, anyway. Probably not many people have heard of it." She smiled and walked her way from Park Place to the Luxury Tax block, closer to Amalthea, but not too close. They were still both getting a feel for the other. For some reason, this woman made Olive feel in awe. And that was kind of rare for Olive. Olive was very sure of herself, until Chuck came around, then it was all out the window. But around everyone else, she was confident.

Olive walked closer and looked down at what Amalthea was staring at. "You mean the letters and words?" She glanced at her, furrowing her brow lightly when it appeared this woman couldn't read. "Welllll, yes. The letters together make a word. That word is Boardwalk. It's the name of the square and one of the most coveted pieces of property in the game. You can't read?"

The young woman shook her head as she kept her purple eyes on the letters. "Reading is a human thing? I have never had a need to read before," she explained as she examined the square a bit more intently. She did not understand how exactly the shapes formed letters or what exactly a 'boardwalk' was, but she could at least speak.

Not only did this woman have purple eyes, but she said "reading is a human thing? as if humans were a completely different race than she was. Olive's detective skills were starting to come out with each word this woman spoke. She watched Amalthea carefully and with quiet scrutiny.

"Alright, lady. What are you?" She crossed her arms over her chest and lifted a blond brow. "The way you talk, it's obvious that you're not human. Spill it, Blondie."

The unicorn's head snapped towards Olive like a wild animal caught in head lights at the question. This was the first time anyone else, besides the Goblins and other creatures that lived in this place bothered to recognize that she wasn't really human.

She shook her head slowly, "I don't understand what you're talking about. I human..." it was hard to admit, she was human - at least in the physical sense. She wasn't exactly ready to admit what she really was, however. She wasn't sure what sort of intentions Olive had, so she felt like lying was her only option.

Olive wasn't fooled. She pursed her lips and tightened the fold of her arms, mashing her bosom in the process. She gave up after a painful moment, but still kept her arms loosely crossed. "You're not pulling the wool over my eyes. Your eyes aren't a normal color, and you don't speak like a normal human. Are you an alien? You said you weren't a vampire, but maybe you were lying then, hmm?"

Olive had no idea what this woman could be, but she was certain that even though she might look similar to a human, she was absolutely not. She eyed her warily, making sure to keep her distance. Who knew what kind of powers this lady had. If a human like Ned could have the power to wake the dead, then surely an alien could have powers, too.

She wasn't entirely sure what an Alien was to be honest, so she thought it best not even to ask. Especially, since Olive seemed intent on getting an answer. If she was in her natural form she probably would have run off into the near by forest and never looked back by now. Not out of fear, but out of practice. Better safe than sorry.

Amalthea's eyes blinked slowly as she clung to a nearby metal board piece. If Olive looked close enough she might have seen strange things reflected in her eyes. Forests, animals and crystal clear streams of her home. They weren't dull or empty like a normal human being. "I have no reason to lie to you, but I'm not sure I have a reason to tell you anything else either."

Olive was afraid of her, why else would she keep her distance. Like Olive Amalthea didn't seem all that keen on opening up and getting any closer. She was terrified honestly, not so much of being in a strange new place ... but of being human. It meant many horrible new things. Gently she eased a hand up towards her forehead and brushed some of her white hair away. If Olive was pure of heart enough she might see the pale pink nine pointed star that marked where her horn should be.
