Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:active, day eight, ianto jones, jack harkness, rose tyler

WHO: Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones, Rose Tyler
WHEN: Mid-Morning; Day Eight
WHAT: Collecting Rose and then going to the amusement park.
WHERE: Rose's Room, then the amusement park.
RATING: Jack!rating
STATUS: Incomplete

At least Ianto was on board for this. Reluctant, but on board. Besides, it was an amusement park and while he'd been there with Rose the day before, Jack didn't have the time to actually explore. And, most importantly, ride the rides. There was a roller coaster he had his eye on and couldn't wait to try it out. However, one didn't ride rides all alone -- so much better when with a group.

While she had said she was spending time in the TARDIS, Jack still swung by her assigned dorm first, hoping he'd get lucky on the first go. Grinning manically at Ianto, Jack knocked twice on the door.

"Open up! We're going to the amusement park!" Jack glanced at Ianto, attempting to look abashed. "All right, so some people get knocks. You're just lucky."

Desperately, Rose pulled her pillow over her head, trying to drown out Jack's far too happy tone. How could he be so perky? How could anyone be perky, knowing what she did. All she'd done was kipped outside for a spell to see the damned snow everyone had been talking about. She'd only been gone ten minutes, fifteen at the most. How was he gone? How in the bloody hell could he be gone?

And with him, the TARDIS, meaning Rose was once again in this prison cell of a room. While it wasn't a bad place, really, it wasn't home. For a couple of blissful days, life had felt perfect. Just the night before, she'd never felt more loved in her entire life. And now? Dammit!

Tears were still streaming down her cheeks as she peered out from under the blankets. She hadn't pulled herself out of bed since she'd arrived back in the unwelcoming dorm room. "Go away!" she begged, unwilling to see any sort of connection to the man she'd loved so desperately for so long, and yet lost over and over.

"I think we'd be having a rather different conversation right now if you woke her the way you woke me," Ianto said smoothly, adjusting nonexistent rumples in the long winter coat he'd found waiting for him.

"Oh, too bad, looks like they're not coming out to play." His inherent distrust of the Doctor, based on his limited personal experience and vast Torchwood-London-inspired readings thereof, extended to the Doctor's companion, too. "I'll just go get you your coffee, sir, and then I have some things to do today."

Jack attempted a look of innocence that might have worked had it not have settled on his face. As it was, he looked impish rather than angelic. "I have danced with her during the London Blitz in the '40s," Jack pointed out. "It wouldn't be fair if you were the only one to get the pouncing. She, however, might have someone else with her and he... probably wouldn't appreciate the same wakeup call."

Reaching out, Jack grabbed onto Ianto's arm before he could go away. "As much as I'd kill for a cup of coffee, you're not leaving. And we're going to the amusement park. I promised you a date, did I not?" he asked. Once more, Jack pounded on the door. "Rose, open the door now or I swear to god, I'll kick it in."

God, did he have to be so bloody irritating? She'd kill him one day. Wait--that wouldn't work as a threat anymore, would it? Even better. She could kill him and not feel guilty about it. "What part of go the hell away don't you understand?" she yelled again, this time with as much anger as she could muster. And, at that point, Rose didn't have much anger left in her. Hurt, yes. Fear, definitely. Confusion? Absolutely. But anger was in that far reserve of her mind.

It didn't really help that it sounded like he wasn't alone. She knew she looked like hell right then. She hadn't even bothered to change into pajamas as she'd returned to the cold room, closing herself in and covering her head with the blanket. "Please," she whispered, even though there wasn't any chance he'd hear her, "just...go away."

Why yes, Jack did have to be so damned irritating. It was all part of the Jack Harkness charm and appeal, irritation was secondary all part of the package. "The go, the hell, and the away," Jack replied, getting more than annoyed he had to yell through the door to speak to Rose. This was not going to last long, not if Jack had any say in it. Besides, he couldn't understand why she was telling him to go away.

Jack didn't pay attention to words like 'leave me alone'. They didn't exist in his vocabulary.

Grumbling under his breath, Jack was forced to release Ianto in favour of getting enough space to kick open the door. One well placed boot right above the door knob sent the door flying open and into the room. Pausing, Jack tested the handle, finding that it turned without resistance. Right. Sotry opening the door before going for the bravado. Jack flicked on a light and crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking at the bubble on the bed. "Rise and shine, Rose Tyler. Get your ass out of bed and let's go."

"Dammit to hell, Jack!" Rose sat up, glaring, her hair tangled in her face and said face red and tear-streaked. "When I ask you to go the hell away, it'd do you a bit of good to listen!"

Let's go? Go where? She wasn't leaving. Not if things could be snatched away from her so damn quickly. Why get close to anyone if she could just lose them? Again! If she'd thought she'd been miserable on that damned Norwegian beach, she'd been sadly mistaken.

"I swear to everything holy if you don't get the hell out of here now I'll... I'll..." God, why did words pick the most inopportune times to fail her? "Please, Jack..." No, Rose most certainly was not begging. Pleading, perhaps, but not begging. She shot the man at Jack's side a brief but interested look before climbing back under the covers, pulling the pillow back over her reluctant head.

"And you should know better than to expect me to listen," Jack shot back. He moved further into the room, wondering briefly what Ianto was making of this whole situation. This was far from the first meeting Jack had hoped to show Ianto, which begged the question of why Rose was so damned distraught. He could think of no reason that would have sent her into such a state and the notion of the Doctor gone never once crossed his mind.

Jack stopped by her bed, arms crossed once more and glowering down at her. This really wasn't how Ianto was supposed to meet Rose. At all.

"You'll do what?" Jack asked, rolling his eyes. "Really. Do tell me what you'll do. We've already had the 'I can't die' conversation." Sighing when she covered her head with the covers, Jack shifted to the end of the bed, roughly pulling the covers down and away from Rose. "No hiding. Up. Get dressed. We're going out and no, you're not changing my mind on this. Roller coasters await and the three of us are taking advantage of this if it kills me."

At which point Jack laughed.

He couldn't die, no, but he could feel pain. And his laughter and his determination to have fun earned Jack a well-deserved slap across the face. "You idiot!" Rose all but screamed, not giving a damn about the other man in the room any longer. All she knew was she was in pain and Jack's grin wasn't helping her one bit. "You selfish, conceited, self-absorbed idiot! Do you not even see?"

How could he not, she had to wonder. How could he not know? Sure, it was snowing out and who would take the trek out to where the blue police call box had once stood if they didn't have to? But the fact that she was there should have said enough. Who in any galaxy would pick these cold, barren walls instead of the comforting warmth of the TARDIS? Who would choose to sleep alone in this strange world instead of inside a world of familiarity with the man who always, always took care of her sleeping down the hall?

"I don't give a damn if you can die or not," she told him sharply, glancing up at the other man. "Hi, I'm Rose, pleasure to meet you, you must be Ianto, sorry about all this." That bit was blabbered out in a rush, and she turned back to fix Jack with a menacing glare. "But I can and it feels like I'm damn well going to so if you wouldn't mind going to hell and leaving me alone, I'd appreciate it."

Ianto, sighing in a most put-upon manner, had stepped back, folded his arms across his chest, and watched the door go flying. Predictable, really. Present a well-meaning hothead with a flimsy door and refuse to come out when he demands it, and what do you think it's going to get you? Ianto leaned against the doorframe and observed the scene.

All right, so Rose was little more than a teenager. A pretty, blonde, sobbing teenager that Jack wouldn't shut up about. Connected to the Doctor, no less. Oh yeah, this wasn't something to be worried about. This was exactly what a great day out needed as its foundations. Right.

"Charmed," Ianto said, reaching out to shake her hand exactly once. Then he mirrored her menacing glare at Jack. "First, I don't ride roller coasters and second, I don't feel like babysitting your jailbait. If you'll excuse me, I have some further reconnaissance to do on the outer edges of the labyrinth. Good day sir." And a nod at Rose without actually looking at her. "Nice to meet you too, I'm sure."

And Jack bloody well wondered why Ianto resisted the seduction. One morning of abandoned frottage brought forth the bleeding apocalypse in the form of an inconsolable blonde. Who Jack had probably shagged already. Damn it.

This officially was not how the morning was supposed to go at all. Jack's perfectly laid plans (and, for that matter, fantastic morning) were on the verge of being completely ruined. He, however, was not about to let any of this go down without a fight. There was a reason he'd been the last man standing so many years ago.

"See what, Rose?" Jack barked back. "I see you here. Do tell me what I'm missing as, unlike some people, I'm not a damned mind reader!" Oh how he wish he were, though. Would make some things so much easier. "I'm at a bit of a loss, Rose, so you're going to have to fill in a couple gaps here."

And then Rose noticed Ianto and things seemed to go down hill from there, as if that were even possible at this point. Suddenly he found himself at the centre of twin glares and Jack held up his hands in a mock sign of surrender. "You," he said, pointing at Rose, "should know that I don't listen well and you are going to tell me what's going on and why you're taking whatever happened out on me."

Jack turned and looked at Ianto now, this time pointing in his direction. "As for you." He paused, finger still poised in the air. "Wait. Jailbait?" Jack wisely bit back the comment that Rose wasn't much younger than Ianto himself. "That's not... this is Rose. Not... whatever the hell you're thinking and you are going to the amusement park. All three of us, even if I have to toss you over my shoulders and carry you."
