WHO: Carlisle and Delirium
WHEN: Day seven, early afternoon
WHAT: Even happy vampires brood
WHERE: Somewhere between the fair and the clinic
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

For as happy as he was for Edward and Juniper, there was a part of him that was jealous. A small part, and a part that he wished he could cut out with a scalpel as efficiently as he did tumors back home. But he couldn't and so he was left with dealing with his missing of his wife by himself. Jasper wasn't even there to make the feeling go away. Carlisle had never realised how much he relied on his son until that moment. All of his children, really. Even their very personalities, talents aside, were a help to him, and he hadn't understood it completely until his rambunctious family was taken away from him.

He walked slowly back to the clinic, his hands shoved in his pockets and a rather broody look on his face, for once oblivious to the way the sun made him sparkle. He didn't need to hide here, and he was far too wrapped up in his thoughts to really care at any rate. He missed his wife, he missed his children, and really, he just wanted to go home.

The youthful woman stepped up to the counter. "Fairs are fair. And far.." The Underground felt familiar, perhaps in the same way that the way she spoke felt familiar to Carlisle. Only the same in that it was always different. Mismatched eyes went to the concession man and she ordered a funnel cake. "Don't have to eat. Real food is good long as it's..Mm. What's that word, it's more like tea parties and children?" She looked up at the man thoughtfully, free hand digging in her pockets. Oh good. She had her bubbles.

"There and here. Here is like there." She paused again, thinking about it. Then motioned to Barnabas with a braceleted hand, head tilting and prismatic hair shifting slightly. "Calls it imbroglio. Funny word. Do you like it?" After breaking a piece off of the sweet cake, she pushed it toward Carlisle in offering to share.

She didn't have to eat. Well, neither did he, so he could understand that. But Del wasn't anything like Carlisle, that was plain to see. She wasn't anything like anything. Honestly, the good doctor was starting to think that this little girl was certifiably insane. "Pretend?" he offered with a raised brow to her question, tilting his head to the side. "Real food is as good as pretend food?"

"Imbroglio," Carlisle repeated. "It's Italian. It means a confused mass," he said, almost to himself. "No thank you," he said politely, waving off the offered food. Now wasn't the time and this wasn't the person to be getting into all that with. "Well. This is called the Underground, as I said," he nodded. "We've been brought here from our worlds, and I'm sorry, but I don't know how to get you home," he confessed, looking sad about it. "But you'll be taken care of here."

"Pretend. Pre-tend. Before tending? Everything comes before tending, then is tended and real. Confused mass. Some people think I'm confused, and sometimes they're right. But they're mostly left." She wasn't worried terribly much about being in a place that she hadn't expected to be. And continued to eat the sweet.

"You're sad about being here." It wasn't a question, but more of an observation made without looking up. "Sad sometimes but have to remember backwards what about." Then Del looked up and lifted her eyebrows, "Better that way." Said with a shrug of skinny shoulder, which hitched the leather jacket she wore further up. It had been falling off, so that was probably a good thing. The moment of thoughtful melancholy passed though, and she was back to some other subject.

"What's your home like? Many star people?"

Left or right, this girl was an odd one, there was no mistake in that. She was amusing, at least, and clearly didn't mind the predicament she found herself in, despite how dire it was. Carlisle most certainly minded. But perhaps she had little to call home, save what she brought with her.

"Yes, remembering is best," he agreed, or at least, he thought he did. It was a little hard to follow this one. But regardless, he knew all too well that no matter how much pain it caused, remembering was better.

He shook his head. "Not very many, no. Most of the people are just normal humans. My family, they're all like me though," he said, deciding it was better to not get into vampirism with this girl. "I have a wife, three sons, and two daughters," he told her with a sad smile, thinking of his family at home. "One of my sons is here as well. Edward."

"Pathways appear in odd spots. Destiny doesn't know them all." It was so very teenager the way she said it, eyeroll included. That was why she wasn't terribly worried. There were always hidden ways out of a place. Well, that and Delirium ended up in odd places a lot.

"He's One of Seven. Me, I'm at the end of the Endless." She spoke about her own family with a bright smile, tugging on a red curl and watching it shift colours subtly before letting it curl back with the others. "Like you? Not like us but time breaks for you too. Time is weird like that, going diagonally and upside down."

Carlisle couldn't help but laugh as she rolled her eyes at him. She so reminded him of his children, Alice especially. She rolled her eyes at him quite a bit. "I suppose you're right," he allowed with a bit of a nod, and a fatherly smile. While he didn't want to patronize her, over eighty years of living with teenagers could do that to a guy.

End of the Endless...Carlisle didn't know what that meant, and he couldn't hold in his curiosity forever. "What are you, Del?" he asked, and wished that he could get a straight answer. But regardless of the fact that he could hold his breath indefinitely, he wasn't going to do it for that wish to come true. "Yes, time breaks for me too," he chuckled. He'd never thought of it like that, but if time stopped for anyone, it'd be him.

"Mm." She paused, drawing patterns on the table that they sat at. Barnabas looked up then, but only because her shadow was trying to burrow underneath his head. The dog used it as a pillow then. "Seven of Seven. Always here. Not here-here..though here-here too. Everywhere. Every where. And there." Del looked up then, head tilting.

"Time's..well, time breaks but it never started. Or never stops." She was drawing circles absently with her finger, spiraling down and down and down. "Brothers and Sisters are important for people." It was always hard for Delirium to directly voice what she and her siblings were. How did one explain that they were just an idea personified? Even if they weren't crazy?

Carlisle missed what her shadow was doing, as he was concentrating far too hard on what her fingers were drawing, hoping that he could gain some understanding from that, even if her words made no sense to him at all. "Seven of Seven..." he muttered. "Seven what? Seven of you? Your brothers and sisters? You're the seven what?" he prodded, trying to form the question in a way that she could answer without giving him another bloody riddle.

A goblin came up then with her key and journal, and explained the rules of the Underground briefly before running back off. Carlisle wasn't deterred by the appearance of the creature, rather, it gave him time to think. "End of Endless..." he repeated again, to himself. "Del? What are your brothers and sisters called?" he asked, smiling a bit.

That was a very good question to ask. It would get a direct answer. As soon as she stopped being distracted by the goblin. She studied the key and journal that he gave her, curious. "Was expected! See, Barnabas? The unexpected is expected. Just have to not expect it." The dog snuffled, and Del heaved a sigh at whatever he said.

Names. Names. She looked back up at Carlisle, biting on chapped lips. "Mm. Destiny is the eldest, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium." Seven of seven. "Endless."

Carlisle had experienced much in his time here, and more in his three-hundred years, but very little gave him the joy that her answer did. She was an idea. She was a Repeated Mean, a Mobius Strip. She was wonderful.

"And you are Delirium," he smiled, nodding. He wasn't afraid, why should he be? She was nothing if not harmless, despite what her name, and now that he was putting the pieces together, personification, warned of.

Shaking his head a little bit, Carlisle stood and smiled. "Would you like to find your room, Del?" he asked, going back to the name she'd given him, assuming that was what she was comfortable with. Surprisingly, he felt a great deal more comfortable just knowing what her deal was.
