WHO: Juniper and Edward
WHEN: Day 6, around lunchtime
WHAT: Juniper getting her mental ass kicked by Jareth's rules/getting in a huge fight with Edward
WHERE: Juniper's room
RATING: R-ish
STATUS: Complete

Something had gone very, terribly wrong. Though Juniper had been rightfully confident in her ability, apparently, her ability wasn't one that was allowed any longer. Jareth must have done something, put up a mental teleportation block as well as a physical one. That was the only thing that could have left Juniper as she was now. Weak, ravaged, and mentally closed off, completely unconscious.

But something was changing. Though she didn't move, and didn't speak - audibly or otherwise - Juniper began to run a fever. Her skin flushed red and beads of sweat formed on her face, her body fighting so hard to keep her brain from boiling that her hair, clothes and bed became sopping wet in barely a minute.

Something had changed, but it was clearly not good.

Edward had been set to argue but any attempt at mirth was lost the moment he caught the direction her thoughts were going in and he blocked her out with mental shields like thick steel walls. He felt his teeth grit against each other as he clenched his jaw. He balled his fists and tried his best to get his temper under control before something disastrous happened.

When she asked him to close his eyes he didn't hear her, but his eyes were already closed. He didn't hear her tell him she was dressed because he was too busy trying to force his control and rage back into a manageable form. He wasn't sure what had him so angry exactly, it was far too intense and had come on too quickly for him to analyze. All he had left was barely the attempt to control it before it got out of hand. It might have been easier if he hadn't been practically paralyzed with the mingling fear as well.

He sat on the bed, still as a statue and practically catatonic for all he was responding.

Juniper didn't notice right away, as she was fighting to tie her laces with one hand, which was way easier said than done. Finally giving up, she just shoved the loose ends inside her trainers and then looked at Edward.

"Open sesame..." she called, tapping him between the eyes. Her eyebrows raised. "Edward? Hello in there..." And then she realised there was no 'in there' for her to get at. He'd closed her out completely, and wasn't responding. "Edward."

Kneeling in front of him, Juniper snapped her fingers in front of his face and then waved her hand back in forth, trying to get him to snap out of it. When none of that worked, she did the only thing she could think of. She kissed him, hard and passionate, right on the mouth, before pulling back to look for any sign of response.

There was a moment where he wanted to grab her by the arms. He didn't really know what his intentions were past that, but he knew that regardless of what he meant that if he touched her now he would hurt her. Still, even knowing that, his hands wrapped around her upper arms once she kissed him and pulled her away from him. His fingers locked around her and pressed against her skin painfully tight, only a fraction from snapping them like twigs.

Whatever was left of his logic realized that he was hurting her and he pushed her away as gently as he could and then shot to the other side of the bed. He didn't trust himself to touch her again and he certainly didn't trust himself to vent his rage outside. Someone would get hurt, or killed, but he felt confident enough that he could keep from hurting Juniper provided she didn't touch him again just now.

When he spoke, in an attempt to warn her, it was more of a snarl than words and hardly sounded human. "Don't touch . . ." He glanced up at her with eyes that had gone a solid black.

"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!" Juniper complained, rapid fire, not fighting against his grip, since that'd just break her arms, but at least she managed to give him a look that could have killed, had he not already been dead. Once he let go, Juniper fell back on her ass and flexed one set of fingers. It felt like both of her hands had fallen asleep from Edward cutting off blood flow to them.

"Oh, I'm not touching," she shot back, glaring at him from her spot on the floor. He was mad, well so was she, but at least she'd figured out what had set him off.

"You of all people should know that there is a difference between a plan and an errant thought, Edward," she pointed out, getting up and putting her hand on her hip. "Forgive me if I'm a little tired of dying. I'm so sorry that I appreciate the fact that maybe I have options now. I'm allowed to think about them, even if I'd never act on it. So sue me if I rather like the idea of not dying," she spat, and then walked out the door, slamming it behind her. God help him if he didn't follow her, even though right on the surface, she didn't want him to.
