WHO: Caspian and Gabrielle
WHEN: Day 5, breakfast time
WHAT: Fooooood
WHERE: One of the supper tents
RATING: PG
STATUS: Complete

After meeting up with and setting straight Miss Bella Swan, Caspian decided that it was time for some food. He felt bad leaving her alone, but after all, if he hadn't been expecting to be transported somewhere, he probably would have needed a moment as well. But as it was, Caspian was perfectly at home in the City. It reminded him of the street fairs in Calormen, but without the slave trade, which was a blessing. He'd had enough fun breaking that up once, thank you very much. He still hadn't figured out his purpose in this land, and was starting to think that, with the many varied and well-suited people in the land, he didn't have much of one. They were all in the same boat, as it were. Maybe the purpose was to simply live his life.

And living included eating.

Part of Caspian wondered at the necessity, given that he was technically dead, but his stomach ruled out that option for him very quickly, sitting up and demanding to be noticed. So, he headed down to one of the supper tents to find something to eat. Not long later, he was sitting at one end of a long bench table, with a plate of bread, cheese and fruit in front of him, and a goblet of water next to that, chewing happily. He was beginning to discover that, with the transformation of his body to its younger years, his mind was heading in that direction as well. Which explained the fact that he seemed to eat like a teenager with a hollow leg.

Noticing someone looking for a seat, Caspian smiled, swallowed, and stood, giving a half bow in greeting. "You're more than welcome at this table," he offered.

He liked that she thought so, and his smile said that without him having to, as Caspian thought it might be a bit egotistical, to admit just how much her praise pleased him. Laying there in the sun, with Gabrielle at his side, was the best thing he'd done all day, and Caspian kept his eyes closed, listening to her speak, trying to picture the things she was - and had been - speaking of.

"No, just myself," he said with a small shake of his head. "My mother died bringing me into the world, and my father was murdered not long after," he explained. "I would have liked to have had siblings, life was rather lonely as a child." He smiled faintly, remembering the days when he'd tried to make the castle animals speak to him, just so he could have a friend.

Opening one eye, Caspian found Gabrielle's hand and lifted it to his chest, idly playing with her fingers, investigating the shape of them with his rather rough ones. "What sort of things did you do as a child?" he asked quietly, his eyes closed again and a little yawn tapering off the end of the question.

Sympathy once more touched her features. She had seen the way it had hurt people to not have their families with them more than once. And yet, it hadn't seemed to make it bitter, like it had so many people she'd known. Maybe it had something to do with how young he'd been. Either way? It impressed her, much as everything she'd heard from him had.

"Lila annoyed me sometimes, but I loved her." She smiled fondly, remembering her little sister. "She always used to tag along with me and my friends when I went out. But now, I... I worry about how she's doing, since I'm here." Although, she doubted that Lila even knew she was gone yet. After all, it had only been a short time, really.

As her hand was shifted, Gabrielle smiled slightly down at Caspian. This was definitely pleasant, she decided. Her own fingers were small and slender, but bore the callouses of practice with weaponry, and she didn't mind the roughness of his hands. Noticing that he was tired, she made her voice soothing. If he needed sleep, she would help. "Fishing, cleaning, all the normal things, I guess." She grinned. "I used to sneak off into the woods, though, and pretend I was on an adventure. But, at the end of the day, my favorite thing to do was to read."

Caspian smiled softly. "I think, that if we had been children together, I would have tugged your curls," he admitted. Then he smirked a bit. "And then beat up any other lad that so much as tried."

He listened to her, and despite the fact that he felt it was unendingly rude, started to drift due to the sound of her voice alone. She had a very soothing presence, after all, and he'd had his fair share of anxious nights of late. He was a tired young man.

"What sort of books?" he asked sleepily, and before she was done answering that question, no doubt, Caspian would be fast asleep.

Gabrielle laughed, but kept it soft so that she didn't wake him up from his drowsy state. "Perdicas would have loved you, then. You could have pulled my hair together." Her former husband had been big on that sort of stuff. "Either that or you would have ended up fighting all the time."

With her free hand, she reached out to gently touch his forehead, stroking him in a soothing way. Yes, it was a bit forward, but it seemed like the right thing to do, anyway. And the poor man obviously needed the sleep, so if she could help, she was all into it.

"Oh, anything, really. Maps, old stories, star charts..." She watched him as his eyes started to drift closed. "I read about Gods and Goddesses, and the things they did. Morpheus is the God of Dreams..." As she spoke softly, telling a myth of the God of sleep, she watched as he gave in to that same God and fell into a deep sleep.
