action || all day
[Halloween dawns a bright and sunny day – crisp and cool, but pleasant. There are appropriate decorations everywhere you look today – jack-o-lanterns, cartoony ghost decorations hanging from trees, candy apples & candy corn, and all that cheery Halloween décor.

The most notable decoration for the day is that you are being haunted… but don’t worry! You have a new friend who’s following after you! These little spirits take the form of an animal that fits your personality – anywhere from a mighty tiger to a little vole – and they aren’t going away any time soon. They’ll interact with you but are impossible to banish. In fact, trying to run away from them just makes them all the more eager to stay close!

If you’re paying attention, however, you’ll know that maybe not everything is well. The trees that have been growing around Kiseki ever since the flood receded are beginning to bloom, slowly, those strange lantern-like plants glowing as the day progresses. Don’t pass too close. Remember – it feeds off negative energy, and it won’t make you feel great.

You know what you’re meant to do in these situations. You’ve been warned of this. You better start that hunt. And don’t worry – your new friends are here to help! If you head into the forest to fight or meet a loose creature elsewhere, your little spirit guide will transform accordingly – to a weapon, to a shield, or perhaps fluctuating between the two. You have options, of course - you can go looking for the monsters, hang back and risk being surprised, or just sit back and let others take care of the mess. Maybe you just want to hang out with your new friend, after all.

The spirits will linger until they are no longer needed. Once they deem that all is safe and that you are alright on your own, they will start to fade until they disappear completely.]

[Classy joke about "talented hands" about the both of them goes here? Sebastian pauses for a second and almost makes as if to sign again, but... okay, apparently he can answer properly now:]

Oh, only that in the presence of a natural-born ruler such as yourself, the deference of lesser beings is to be expected. Sir.

[MAYBE.]

[...] What's with the sudden politeness? [It's weird when you do that.]

[This is where Sebastian wants to deliberately misunderstand and say something like "Oh? Do I typically address you as something else than 'sir'~~?", but well, event...]

I employ it when the present company demands it, of course, but that is not the case here. [Because Lucifer is hardly royalty.]

Here, I use excess formality in place of aggression, since the situation hardly should escalate. I don't suppose you are familiar with sarcasm, at that?

[...Okay. He didn't mean to be straightforward. This time Sebastian forgoes the puzzled look and doesn't comment on how strange this is, but his smile, if one pays attention, stiffens somewhat.]

[He would laugh, or something of the sort, but he's rather taken aback by this sudden explanation.]

Have you finally lost your bloody mind?

I should hope not. That would prove an inconvenience.

[He feels of sound mind, at least? But then again, what basketcase doesn't...]

But since you ask, I suppose I might sooner attribute it to this world's antics rather than any other alternative.

[The "other alternative" being blaming Lucifer for it. Maybe it's not a good life decision to underestimate the literal Devil, but somehow, Sebastian can't find it in himself to assume that Lucifer would fake that confusion. His pretty little head doesn't have the smarts for it.]

[He does not fake anything, thank you very much. And that is not a phrase with a double-meaning, either, he's just very proud about his honesty.]

So, what, you've lost the ability to keep things to yourself?

[...Hmm.

You know what? Much more so than having lost his mind, that would be potentially concerning.]

Ah, I wonder...

[Sebastian does his usual thinking gesure, chin in hand, while he just. stares very intensely at Lucifer. For a good thirty seconds. Not explaining himself or even saying a word.]

No, fortunately that seems to not be the case.

[Sebastian's vulture does its screech-laugh once more, while Sebastian delicately hides his chuckling behind a hand again. Right? Sebastian's hilarious.]

Admittedly I am quite relieved.

[But then what is the matter with him? He has a suspicion as to what it might be, but in order to test it... mm, is it worth knowing for sure if that also means Lucifer (slow as he is) finally figures it out too?]

Yes, no need to have a demon's inner dialogue traumatizing everyone around. [His tone is sarcastic, but... really.]

I suppose you would be intimately familiar with what a demon's thoughts might be, sir. How kind [~*~*~*~] of you to take everyone into consideration.

Now... I apologise for the imposition, but may I trouble you for a favour?

What is it?

You have. I thought you her master and she your servant, that is all, and that consequently she would work for you.

["Worked alongside" makes it sound so equal, see.]

[Almost snorts.]

I'll call her my "servant" the day I want her to castrate me with those daggers of hers. [He's exaggerating: Maze would never hurt him. But he's not risking it.] She does work for me, though.

[That is such crude, uncivilised language, tut. Sebastian tilts his head (in that way he does when he's being - wait for it - passive-aggressive and judgmental).]

How generous of you to be so respectful towards her, sir. Despite the difference in status.

[How many things do Lucifer get on an every day, tbqh... (No, jokes about Lucifer being dim-witted will never stop being funny).]

Of course not. And if circumstance or chance places you above others, that is reason not to revel in it?

[How egalitarian and/or canting.]

[Head. tilt. That was his point exactly, you complete imbecile. In the most pleasant "I'm trying to be over-the-top about just humouring you but I'm not sure you'll even catch on to that" tone,]

So you have made perfectly clear, sir, yes.

[It really is lucky whatever's going on with Sebastian doesn't compel him to share his every thought. If it did, Lucifer would get to hear something along the lines of:

"What truly cruel irony, seeing some of the people given the right to revel in their own superiority by circumstance or chance, through no effort of their own. At some point, certainly, stupidity should un-earn such a person their high position."]

And quit calling me sir! I have a name, and unlike my Father's, you are more than welcome to take it in vain.

[Yes, but see, Sebastian does the same thing with the Supreme Kai of Time: calls her by title out of sheer spite. He opens his mouth...]

["That is quite generous of you. Thank you, sir."]

Of course. As you wish... Mr Morningstar? Or is that also too formal for your preferences?
