Elmyra hated the uniforms Aeris's friends wore. She hated what they stood for, and the danger they meant for her daughter. Even if Aeris seemed to have a fixation on them.
It seemed she couldn't keep from leaning on that Zack-boy whenever he came around, dressed in his SOLDIER gear, looking dangerous and more than a little frightening. If he had been anything less than totally honest to her, Elmyra would have sworn he wore it for the reactions he got, the way people hid and avoided him.
But the boy never seemed to notice, his eyes fixed on Aeris in ways that disturbed her. The way Aeris looked back didn't help either. She loved her child, but the girl had dangerous tastes.
Even more so when she brought home the man in leather, who anyone with any awareness of the outside world would have recognized. It wasn't bad enough that she was friend(dating) the SOLDIER, she had to spend time with Sephiroth as well. He had been part of the war that had killed her husband, and Elmyra had no little bitterness towards him for that as well.
Even the less worrisome of the set, the little blond trooper, wore his uniform far too much for her taste. His eyes didn't glow, and he moved more human than any of them, but the fact that he was openly part of Shin-Ra worried her in ways that made her chest ache in fear for Aeris.
She hated the uniforms, hated what they meant, and who they made stare her way. Shin-Ra was not loved in the slums, and only Aeris's sheer cheerfulness seemed to sway off the more vulgar of comments.
Though Elmyra did try to not see how her daughter touched the men when they came down in their uniforms, Zack in his charcoals, Sephiroth in his leathers, or Cloud in his blues. She could see the fascination the uniforms had, and she did remember how she had felt seeing her husband in his uniform before he had shipped out.
She hated the uniforms, maybe not quite for the reasons her daughter thought, but it didn't matter.
She hated their Shinra uniforms - Aeris loved them.
