There were no happy endings. Tatsuya was quite certain of that fact, standing at the train station beneath the sunlight, watching his friends walk away, walk away from him, walk away from each other, all spinning off into their own separate lives where none of them had ever met, separate stories that had never intersected, but did, but never did all at the same time, and only Tatsuya was left to remember, because he had refused to let go, no matter the rules.
This was better then the alternative, wasn't it, though? Maya-nee was alive, alive and smiling and laughing and well, and the world wasn't destroyed, and shouldn't that have been worth any price? Shouldn't it have been?
But it was still very much like a closing door, slamming shut, as he watched them walk away, leaving him behind. His fingers clenched and something inside ached, just as one final, soul-crushing realization hit him, despair washing over him, leaving nothing behind of any attempt to find a brighter side to the situation.
His friends were gone, and his boyfriend, his best friend, was gone, too. And all he could do was watch Jun walk away, knowing that he didn't remember him, and that hurt like hell, but what hurt worse was knowing that Jun wasn't his anymore, that all he could do was let him go. And it hurt worse then that, worst of all, knowing that Jun was going to end up some other man's boyfriend (kind and beautiful, of course someone would want him), and there was absolutely nothing he could do about it. Other then let him go.
The stories were all wrong. There were no happy endings.
