So. About them errands, huh?
((Man. How about all that self-play. It's what I get for playing 90% of the characters, I guess. :p And also currently the only character who can fling himself around the kingdom in seconds, so the job of errand boy has fallen to him. Purah's really got to come up with something for Zelda.))

After contacting Zelda and ending up with a laundry list of things he needed to get, as well as a brief panic when she asked about the sign outside his house, of all things, Link shifted his focus to his new agenda: getting a bunch of girly stuff.

His life went awry somewhere along the line, and he wasn't quite sure where. As much as he missed his sister, part of him was glad his early teen years weren't plagued by a teenage girl potentially trying to cajole him into being her practice dummy for learning how to apply makeup and do fancy hair styles. There was a good chance Marin would've ended up more like their grandmother than their mother on that front, but even so, that was an arrow he'd dodged.

It wasn't even getting dressed up like a woman that would've bothered him- when he was growing up, women were the ones with the power, it wasn't exactly an insult to look like one, and he had to do that later to get into Gerudo Town anyway -it was the idea of being turned into what amounted to a science experiment that would've annoyed him. Being told to sit and stay and be subjected to whatever his handlers wanted to do would've driven him crazy.

That, and he remembered being an adolescent boy, and he knew how adolescent girls acted, and he and his sister probably would've driven each other up the wall and down each other's throats.

... he still missed her, though.

He forcibly shoved that subject aside and focused back on the task at hand, most of which was just taking pictures, but the first thing he had to do was something that he wasn't ... exactly looking forward to. For a myriad of reasons, not the least of which was 'fessing up to having not told the entire truth to Zumi and Yammo earlier about his relationship status with Zelda. Although before he could do that, he had to 'fess up to himself about it. His side of things wasn't anything he'd been... too untruthful about- there was nothing that he'd given any thought to (and fighting his brain to keep it that way was sometimes a challenge) -but he knew damn well what Zelda's side was. Sure, there honestly was the chance that the years had changed her, but he had a feeling in his gut that they hadn't. He'd probably hide behind that possibility for awhile yet, but it was something he was going to have to face at some point.

Sometimes he wished he'd worked harder at not avoiding dealing with emotions after his initial grief over Marin had passed. It'd make things a lot easier on him. His tendency to shut down had helped him save face when the kingdom's spotlight was on him, but now it was just making things messy.

Oh, hey, brain. Nice of you to drift back to that subject. Let's stay on task, hmm?

The women had made pretty good time, all things considered, as Link could see them just on the other side of Proxim Bridge as he approached it. He nodded in greeting to Brigo, who still was holding his position as guard, though what he was guarding and why, Link wasn't sure. Whatever made him happy and gave him purpose, Link supposed.

Link eyed the no less than three different colors of powder. How... how up to his neck was he now?

"That's... a lot of different eye shadows..." he said, not bothering to hide his confusion, nor the unspoken question in that statement.

Why?

Saula chuckled. "It seems like it to a beginner," she agreed, "but if Gerudo Town is going to be a special trip, you should get to enjoy it to its fullest. And your friend may appreciate something more than a single-color application. I'll write down what all of this is, I promise."

"Oh good," he said, without having to exaggerate his relief.

Well. Science experiment time.

Saula took her time, making sure the vai had one eye open as she worked on the other, explaining what the transitional shade was, and the purpose of the highlight and shadow.

"You're wanting a gradient," she said as she worked. "Skin is hardly one solid color, after all, and even the boldest of colors, you want to look natural. That's why the blending brush is so important."

"My friend won't need a different set of brushes for each color scheme, will she?" Link asked, doing his best to not squint the eye that needed to be kept closed, no matter how much easier it'd make keeping his other eye open enough to even see what the woman was doing.

Oh goddess, please say no. Link was pretty sure even Zelda would feel overwhelmed by that at first.

"No," Saula assured her, hearing that note of protest in the vai's voice. "You can clean these with a bit of nappery, just brush the cloth until color isn't coming off the brush anymore."

She finished with the first eye, checking her work before declaring it satisfactory and stepping around the vai to get to her other side without blocking view of the mirror.

"When it comes to the second eyelid, obviously you want to get it to look as close to identical as the first as possible, but remember that your natural skin doesn't look identical across each side of your face, so don't stress over perfection. As long as the difference isn't dramatic, it won't hurt the look. And you'll get better the more you do it."

'The more you do it.'

Siiiiiiigh.

"I'll keep that in mind."

He'd have to be sure to remind Zelda of that, though. The constant pressure to 'get it right' she'd lived under should be cut off at the pass on this subject.

Saula took the time to go back over both eyelids, asking the vai to shut both eyes so she could see better, fussed with the blending a little, reminding the vai again that practice would make perfect, and try not to stress and nitpick, then stood back and admired her work.

You've really outdone yourself this time, ol' girl, she thought to herself.

"There. Take a look, tell me what you think."

She had her mental fingers crossed that the vai would be happy with the effect.

That... actually was not as bad as he was fearing.

Well hell, it'd make this woman happy if he really loved her work, and even he could tell that she was good at what she did.

He decided to take a moment to look shocked- 'Candace' had given up on getting to doll up and look pretty, after all, she couldn't possibly have seen something on her face looking so nice -then looked at the woman, stopping just shy of giving her fake tears of joy, because that seemed a little bit excessive.

"Thank you," he said, voice just positively choked with emotion.

Saula couldn't even pretend to contain her joy. "I told you that you had such pretty eyes," she said, gathering up the honey blend that she'd used. "Please, take this set, on me. Every vai should get to feel pretty, and you've had a hard enough life to be deprived of that."
