So. About them errands, huh?
((Man. How about all that self-play. It's what I get for playing 90% of the characters, I guess. :p And also currently the only character who can fling himself around the kingdom in seconds, so the job of errand boy has fallen to him. Purah's really got to come up with something for Zelda.))

After contacting Zelda and ending up with a laundry list of things he needed to get, as well as a brief panic when she asked about the sign outside his house, of all things, Link shifted his focus to his new agenda: getting a bunch of girly stuff.

His life went awry somewhere along the line, and he wasn't quite sure where. As much as he missed his sister, part of him was glad his early teen years weren't plagued by a teenage girl potentially trying to cajole him into being her practice dummy for learning how to apply makeup and do fancy hair styles. There was a good chance Marin would've ended up more like their grandmother than their mother on that front, but even so, that was an arrow he'd dodged.

It wasn't even getting dressed up like a woman that would've bothered him- when he was growing up, women were the ones with the power, it wasn't exactly an insult to look like one, and he had to do that later to get into Gerudo Town anyway -it was the idea of being turned into what amounted to a science experiment that would've annoyed him. Being told to sit and stay and be subjected to whatever his handlers wanted to do would've driven him crazy.

That, and he remembered being an adolescent boy, and he knew how adolescent girls acted, and he and his sister probably would've driven each other up the wall and down each other's throats.

... he still missed her, though.

He forcibly shoved that subject aside and focused back on the task at hand, most of which was just taking pictures, but the first thing he had to do was something that he wasn't ... exactly looking forward to. For a myriad of reasons, not the least of which was 'fessing up to having not told the entire truth to Zumi and Yammo earlier about his relationship status with Zelda. Although before he could do that, he had to 'fess up to himself about it. His side of things wasn't anything he'd been... too untruthful about- there was nothing that he'd given any thought to (and fighting his brain to keep it that way was sometimes a challenge) -but he knew damn well what Zelda's side was. Sure, there honestly was the chance that the years had changed her, but he had a feeling in his gut that they hadn't. He'd probably hide behind that possibility for awhile yet, but it was something he was going to have to face at some point.

Sometimes he wished he'd worked harder at not avoiding dealing with emotions after his initial grief over Marin had passed. It'd make things a lot easier on him. His tendency to shut down had helped him save face when the kingdom's spotlight was on him, but now it was just making things messy.

Oh, hey, brain. Nice of you to drift back to that subject. Let's stay on task, hmm?

The women had made pretty good time, all things considered, as Link could see them just on the other side of Proxim Bridge as he approached it. He nodded in greeting to Brigo, who still was holding his position as guard, though what he was guarding and why, Link wasn't sure. Whatever made him happy and gave him purpose, Link supposed.

Sidon was at once confused and sympathetic towards his friend's plight. "I would hardly think that height should cause someone to question one's gender, but you seem more broad in the shoulders than the Hylian women who have come to visit the Domain since Ruta was calmed."

Link rubbed the back of his neck tiredly, lacing his fingers there and tilting his head back to look up at the sky. "I am, but not by as much as the average Hylian man. It's worked in my favor, but it's getting tiring every time I have to save some guy's ass from a monster attack that he was losing, and I end up getting a thanks that has a backhanded potshot at my size attached to it."

Sidon's sympathy took first place over the confusion, and he had to resist the urge to pat Link's head; he couldn't reach his shoulder, even if Link didn't have his arms raised in a way that made them inaccessible, but something about patting him on the head seemed more condescending than sympathetic.

"Tiring, I'm sure," Sidon said, "but it sounds as if there are times that make it worth it." Pause. "Though one wonders what those times may be."

Link's first inclination was to let him wonder all he wanted; Link wasn't exactly wanting to spread even a rumor that the little Hylian vai who visited the Gerudo chief on a regular basis was actually a little Hylian voe. Zelda and Kass knew, but Zelda was out of necessity, and Kass was in commiseration.

But of any other person in Link's life, Sidon was one of the few that he trusted. The number of people he trusted that extent could be counted on one hand with a few fingers to spare.

So after giving a look around to make sure nobody was in earshot, he waved Sidon down to his level. Once Sidon had bent down, Link lowered his voice. "You know that they don't allow men into Gerudo Town, right? I've been in there. And haven't gotten caught."

Then he pointed sternly at Sidon. "And that goes nowhere, understand?"

That. Was not expected. And probably should have been.

Sidon was silent for a moment, straightening and regarding his friend, first trying to picture this, but then realizing how much trouble Link could get into if this secret were learned, and how much Link must have trusted him to keep it.

"I am honored that you would take me into your confidence," he said. "Should someone ask, I heard nothing, you have my word."

"Good man," Link said, patting his arm before dropping both of his own. "So I hear that Ruta's putting people on edge?" He glanced up past Sidon to the looming form of the Divine Beast. "I don't have a ton of time to spare, but if it's got people upset enough, I could pop up there and take a look at it. I'm not a scientist, but I can troubleshoot well enough, at least figure out if we need to get experts up there."

Sidon half-turned and looked up at Ruta's sleeping form. "It would certainly put many minds at ease if you were to do that," he said. "I think it's a little silly for them to be so worried. It should be more than obvious that with the attack on the castle done, it no longer has need to be active."

And no longer had its Champion at its controls.

Sidon didn't give that thought voice.

Sidon didn't have to give it voice, it was a thought Link shared.

Despite his desire to not get sucked into a Deep And Serious Conversation, he'd be insulting if he kept shunting everything to the side. Mipha deserved better, and Sidon deserved to not be treated like that.

So with a deep sigh, Link moved to stand more next to Sidon than between him and the Domain. "You felt it too, huh?" he asked softly.

Sidon didn't bother even trying to be surprised that Link had seemingly read his mind so well. Or perhaps his expression was showing more than he'd intended. Or maybe it was just a shared thought. Either way, Sidon didn't question it.

"I was at the foot of the mountain when it happened," Sidon replied, just as quietly. "I'd hoped that my sister might linger, just a moment longer, to say goodbye, but it was only a few seconds after Ganon's sealing that she was gone."

Whether Sidon had intended on how much that'd hurt leeching into his tone or not, it didn't matter. It was there, and it'd take an idiot to miss it.

"It wasn't because she didn't want to," Link said after a second of debating what to say and how, crossing his arms. "The dead aren't allowed to linger in our world, that's all. Her duty was done, destiny wasn't going to hold her here anymore. If she'd had a choice, I know she would've said something. She loved you too damn much to leave without a word."

It was only years of practice at maintaining composure that kept Sidon's eyes dry and his expression from crumpling. To say that he missed his sister would be a gross understatement; 'missed her' was just too weak of a phrase.

After a few moments of silence, he smiled, just faintly. "I know you said you did not have time to linger," he said. "But I hope you will return sometime to tell me about her. My father and the elders remember her as their princess, their daughter and student. You, and you alone, remember her as a person." He looked down at Link. "And I would very much like to know the Mipha you knew."

Link looked up just in time to see Sidon looking at him, and he sighed with an exasperated smile. "As long as you remember that I've still got some holes in my head. I have an incomplete picture in spots."

He glanced back towards Mipha's statue. "And remember that statues and glorified stories erase the flaws. She wasn't as perfect as she's probably been painted out to be. There were times she made me want to beat my head on a wall with frustration."

It was on the tip of Sidon's tongue to ask what on earth his sister could've done to drive Link to such a thing, but the fact that Link was pressed for time kept him from asking. "I cannot imagine what she could do to drive you to that, but you have stated you haven't much time, and I dare say that I hear several stories in that tired statement."

He looked up at Ruta. "On the subject of time, however, would you truly have time to get up there and check the Divine Beast? My father and the others can wait another day if necessary. If they claim otherwise, I will disabuse such a false notion from their heads on your behalf."

Link snorted. "In other words, you'll just talk right over them until they give up trying to get you to listen," he said, grabbing the Slate off his hip. "That's a page right out of your sister's book."

He pulled up the map, then frowned when he didn't see Ruta's travel gate lit up. "Why is- oh." He blinked, then raised his eyebrows. "You'll have to start doing that talking over them thing," he said. "Ruta's completely offline. I can't use the Slate to quick travel up there, I'd have to climb up the old fashioned way and get it turned back on."

That sounded fun. He looked up at Ruta. "On the other hand, you can tell them that Ruta's not doing anything or going anywhere, that's for certain. Until either I can get up there with the Slate, or we find a new pilot it'll respond to, it's probably not going to go anywhere or do anything."

Sidon barely had time to feel a swell of pride at being compared to his sister- though he would've loved to have seen the soft-spoken Zora princess talking right over stubborn old council members -when Link confusion and then equally confusing statement about 'quick traveling' derailed him.

He bent down to look at the Slate over Link's shoulder. "How exactly can you tell?" he asked, looking at what was clearly a map of the region glowing on the Slate's surface. "I realize I've never actually asked what exactly the Slate even is or what it does."

Link gave him an exaggerated shrug and an equally exaggerated expression to match. "You're asking me what it is? It's technology. The what's beyond me. You'd be best off asking Zelda when she gets here. What it does, on the other hand, is just about everything but take out the trash in the morning."

He lifted the Slate a bit to make it easier for Sidon to see without having to double over at the waist. "That's the map function. See all those blue diamonds? Those are those shrines that lit up all over the place when I woke up. They have what're called travel gates that the Slate can-" He waved a hand vaguely. "I guess connect to, and then it breaks me down into... I guess energy? I never got to see what it looked like until we tested if Zelda could use that function too. But it throws me around the countryside like a rag doll, puts me back together on these travel gates."

Then he motioned up to Ruta. "When I boarded Ruta, the Slate registered a travel gate up there. Same with the other Beasts. I used to be able to travel straight up there, but Ruta must be completely offline, because the Slate's not registering it even existing."

He zoomed out on the map enough to see the entire kingdom, noting with some dismay that the same was going on with the other Beasts. "None of the Beasts are online. That's going to be a pain in the ass, none of them are in easy to get to locations." He sighed. "At least Medoh and Naboris have travel points nearby. I'm going to have to climb right up to Death Mountain's peak to get to Rudania. Because doing a balancing act right over a pit of lava is my idea of a fun time."

Sidon's brow raised in mingled confusion and alarm at the idea of his friend being... broken down? Into energy? What did that even mean?

But it explained a few things, come to think of it, though it left a number of questions in its wake. "I did wonder how you seemed to always come and go from the Domain without seeming to leave through the front road." He turned and looked past Mipha's statue, at the glowing shrine in the alcove behind it. "You simply... appear there?"

He couldn't help the slightly excited look on his face. "Would you mind if I imposed on you to demonstrate this travel function?"

Link didn't feel half the tiredness on his face when he looked up at Sidon. "I'm going to be doing this a lot," he said, shaking his head. "All right, all right. You look like your sister did the first time she took Ruta out for a test run. Come on."

He walked back over to the statue, standing just to its side, waiting until Sidon had caught up to select the Ne'ez Yohma shrine. "Don't blame me if you have a heart attack," he said, then pressed travel.

There was no amount of warning that Link could've given Sidon that would prepare him for watching the young Hylian fade into whisps of blue light and then disappear entirely.

He looked around almost frantically, before his brain kicked back in and remembered that Link was supposed to be 'traveling' to the shrine down in the alcove, and looked over just in time to see the same blue whisps of light appear and reform into his friend.

He wasn't going to pretend to be anything but bewildered, dumbfounded, shocked, and mildly disconcerted. "That... is a handy trick," he said, not able to take his eyes off Link as Link rejoined him so much as to blink. "I've never heard of such a thing being possible."

Link was struggling to hold back laughter as he sloshed his way out from the alcove and walked over to Sidon. "I would've taken months longer to finish the job if I didn't have this," he said. "I'm not sure anyone back then had heard of it either. Purah didn't know about it, and neither did Robbie. The king's spirit did, but I'm not sure how. Either way it goes, we definitely had never confirmed it doing this."

"I imagine not," Sidon said, staring down at the Slate in Link's hands. "I would think I would have heard of this if it had been."

Wait. Back up a second.

"You mean the king of Hyrule? Why was his spirit lingering?" The king hadn't been one of the Champions, and had- as far as Sidon knew -not been blessed with any sort of divine purpose or magic, as his daugther had. It seemed... unfair, that a man that unconnected to destiny should be allowed to linger an entire century, while his sister could not even more than a few seconds.

"I'm not sure why's he's the one that got tapped for the job," Link said, seeing that sense of unfairness in Sidon's eyes without the prince ever having to say a word about it, "but he had been keeping watch over the Shrine of Resurrection and helped me get my bearings right after I woke up. He disappeared after he gave me a brief history lesson and a way to get off the Plateau."

That was a bit mollifying.

"A curious figure to be charged with the task, but it allowed him to help you, and for that, I am grateful."

Something crept up into view in his head. "The Shrine of Resurrection must be up on the Great Plateau, then? This strikes me as information that should not be made public. It's far too valuable a resource to risk vandalism."

"A list that I am humbled by having a place on," Sidon said, inwardly pleased- okay, outright happy -that he was being trusted with things that Link must otherwise say nothing about to anyone.

"Well," he said, straightening and looking up towards the throne room. "I suppose now is time we inform my father of Ruta's current state and send you along your way to that date you have."
