Just to keep track, Link's running a couple errands
((This is both to give me something to do, and also so I know wtf all was said. It's not like I haven't done something like this before. XD;))

Link heard Pruce leave the store behind him only a few seconds after he did, but didn't turn around. What would be the point? The conversation was over.

"It feels like you're having some success," he said softly, looking around for signs of life in the early dawn hours. He was noticing that his thoughts had become narrow, almost hyperfocused on each task as it came. He was barely thinking about anything beyond getting to Uma. The rest was there, but it felt muted.

I'm sorry, Master Link, but this is the best I can do. I am unable to calculate how long I will be able to keep this filter in place, the Sword replied. But I will hold it as long as I can.

"Don't apologize," he said. "Glad for what I can get."

He nodded to Ivee as he passed by Reede's house, where she was waiting at the door. "Just running an errand," he said to her unasked question, passing past view of the door over the steep incline of the plot of land the house sat on and the main road.

First one on the left past Reede's house. Not far to walk.

He knew that Pruce said that Uma was used to being woken up at strange hours, and it was just late enough in the day that he figured most people in town would be awake and at breakfast, but given that he knew Uma was getting on the older side, he still would feel guilty if he was waking her up, or interrupting her breakfast.

Before knocking, he stopped to pull a sheet of paper out of the Slate's inventory- he used the notes function on it for his own stuff, but sometimes there was a need for doing things the old fashioned way, at least for giving people notes -and then the flowers, wrapping the roots of them in the paper to protect them. There was no need to announce the presence of the Slate's technology until Zelda was out and about.

Then, he took a breath, pushing any concerns he still held over the issue those flowers were for back behind that filter that the Sword had in place, and knocked on the door.

"In the Lost Woods," he said. "That's the whole plant, roots and all. I admit there was an ulterior motive for finding those, but I was told you'd want them anyway."

Uma spared him a glance, but only just that, gently unwrapping the paper from around the roots to confirm that the entirety of them had been saved. She didn't doubt Link's word, but it still felt like something she had to see with her own eyes. "You have no idea," she said. "I don't know how you got in and out of those woods, but I know there's going to be a lot of women who will thank you, if I can get these to reproduce."

Finally, satisfied that the entirety of the plant was intact, she looked at Link. "You said you had an ulterior motive. I'm going to guess that you know a young lady who will need one?"

"A friend of mine," he confirmed, not about to offer any more about Zumi's identity. "She and her life partner are going to be in town within the week. They don't actually know if she's going to terminate yet or not. She'd wanted to, but couldn't keep any of the methods left out here down. She didn't want to be pregnant out on the road- they travel a lot. But even if she still wants to terminate, neither of them knew what part of those they needed, and they didn't want to risk complications."

He shook his head. "I don't think they knew where to get a midwife when they were trying before. But I brought as many of the flowers as I could. Like I said, I was told you'd want those anyway."

Uma was already in motion, listening to Link while she gathered up her potting soil and pot she used to coax new seedlings to life during weeks that were proving too rainy or too dry for them to grow properly. "Am I correct in guessing that they're going to want a chance to decide if they want to settle before they make their final decision?"

"That's right," Link said, watching her. "They'll be staying at the inn in the meantime."

Uma returned to the table with a medium sized pot, and a sack cloth bag full of soil that was rescued from a field just before planting season, after it'd been tilled. "Do you know how far along she is?" she asked. "And her age?"

"About two and a half months," he said. "As for her age, she's just shy of twenty, or maybe just turned. I haven't seen her in awhile, I just found out last night when I ran into her that she was having trouble. She was nineteen the last time I saw her, but I don't know when her birthday is, so she might be twenty by this time."

"Good," Uma said, pausing to count how many flowers there actually were. Eight. The medium sized pot wouldn't be big enough for all of them.

She returned to the corner with her potting supplies. "Is her life partner to be the father?"

"Other mother, actually," Link said, doubting- or at least hoping -Uma wouldn't ask questions about the other genetics donor involved.

Any worry that might've motivation that need for hope that Link would be asked about the man involved in the young woman's pregnancy wasn't one he'd need to have had. "I assume you know their names and what they look like," she said, starting to fill the first pot halfway up with the fertile soil. "Who am I watching for?"

"Yammo and Zumi," he said. "Zumi's the one who's pregnant, she's fairly small. She was actually worried about her hip size when it came to childbirth. She's got blonde hair, blue eyes. Yammo's taller, with short red-brown hair and dark eyes. I've never seen her in good light to be able to tell beyond that."

Uma frowned, not looking up as she started to secure one flower into the pot. "Thank you for the heads up," she said. "That's information I needed. You said they'll be here within the week?"

"That's correct," Link said. "Do you need any help?" He'd rather she didn't, he had two other stops to make- thank you for reminding him about the second one, Sword, he'd actually hadn't thought of it as something to do just yet -but he wasn't going to leave an elderly woman to carry heavy things around. The bag of soil hadn't looked all that heavy, but adding the weight of those pots might change the story. And an extra pair of hands to help keep the flowers secure while she packed the soil around the roots might not hurt.

"No, no," she said, then smiled reassuringly at him. "I've done this many times with other plants, and once upon a time with these, as well. If I need help lifting anything, I'll go fetch Ralera." She waved him off. "Now shoo, meaning no offense, but the doctor needs to focus on her medicines."

"None taken," he said. "I have other errands to run anyway. Thank you, Uma." He nodded, then took his leave, heading back out.

Now, up to the tech lab. "Think Purah's going to throw a tantrum at me?" he asked the Sword quietly once he was away from Uma's door enough to not be heard.

I calculate a twenty percent chance of such an extreme reaction," the Sword replied. However, I calculate an eighty percent chance that she will protest, and a ninety percent chance that she will be unhappy, whether she lodges a complaint or not.

"You already know her well," he said, crossing the second bridge and working his way up the winding road.

I have observed her past behaviors and filed away the contents of her experiment notes in my memory.

He shook his head in amusement. No matter how 'human' she became in regard to emotions and some expression thereof, she was always going to speak like an automatic program.

She offered no response to that, leaving him in silence as he rounded the last turn of the path to the lab. With her filters in place, however, it was a comfortable silence, rather than one that screamed, which was a welcome relief.

He had a feeling that he was about to face a potentially cranky six year old, but at least Symin should be up and reasonable, as he knocked on the door.

Symin found it odd that someone was knocking at the door- nobody had except Link, the first time he arrived at the lab -especially at an early hour.

He looked at the director, giving her a chance to move where she wouldn't be immediately seen by their mysterious guest, then answered the door.

"Oh, good morning, Link," he said, opening the door to let the young man in. "We're not used to you knocking." His tone held an amused accusation.

Oh good, just Link.

Purah stood up on her chair to put herself closer to eye level with him. At least he was short enough that 'closer' wasn't as far off as it was with Symin. "Where's the queen?" She frowned. "You haven't left her alone already, have you?"

Link didn't give her his usual smile, feeling too serious in a situation too serious for the good mood. "She's back at the house, she's safe," he said. "And you need to go join her. She's wanting to announce her presence in town, and she's holding a meeting with a few locals to plan how to do it and where to start assigning duties. And she already has a job for you and Symin."

Purah froze in alarm, first at his lack of anything resembling a smile, or... anything, actually. He was acting like she remembered him from before the Calamity, only... bossier.

Hmph.

"I can do the job just fine from here," she said, crossing her arms. "If the queen is too busy to come up here to talk to me about it, she can send you."

Man, she really didn't want to be seen by the public in the state she was. :\

Link's expression only changed enough to reflect the sternness in his tone. "Purah, I know you think like a child, but you're older that that, you have the experience to know that things must get done, whether we like them or not. It's time to tell yourself that play time is over, there's work to be done. Your queen needs you."

Purah's mouth dropped open in offended shock, though she really couldn't find a protest that didn't stink of ego and defiance for Zelda. Link was right, the Calamity was over, it was time to rebuild, and obviously, Zelda had plans for her.

She scrunched up her face in righteous indignation. "You don't have to be rude about it," she grouched. "Fine, we'll go." She paused, blinking. "Where... where is your house, actually?" Then she fidgeted nervously. "And exactly who all is there?"

"It's the one across the bridge behind the model houses," he said. "Just past the general store. And it won't be many people, just Reede, Pruce, and Tokk. I don't know when you last were out, but Tokk at least will know who you are once you give your name. He served at Fort Hateno when he was fourteen, he's bound to have heard your name."

Purah sighed deeply. "Well, I suppose I do need to 'fess up. It'll be nice to be able to leave the lab again."

She looked at Symin. "Well, I guess we go down with Linky."

Symin was the one to beat the director the punch with questions, adjusting his glasses. "Does Her Majesty know about this? Do we need to inform her of anything when we arrive?"
