Who: EVERYONE! :) Feel free to make new subthreads and play and stuff. ^^ The Bakery/Cafe is yours today!
When: All day Monday
Where: Baxter bakery
What: Grand Opening!!

Audrey had her hands full. Her delivery girls (three of them in total, all recent Hogwarts grads) had gone through a brief training as to how to deal with customers, stock the pastry case and drink fridge, and use the espresso machine. Audrey was on the register. It was an incredibly busy morning, but they were getting to customers as quickly as they could--and when people had to stand and wait, one of the girls brought out a tray of cut up cookies for samples.

Business was booming--which was what she'd hoped for today. A lot of people brought in their coupons for free cookies, and a lot of people didn't. Nearly everyone picked up a cup of tea or a cup of coffee with their purchase, upping the sales and revenue. Audrey was insanely glad she'd put in the espresso machine, because it nearly doubled her earnings. Things were going swimmingly. And all of the friends that came into the shop made it even more wonderful.

Audrey broke into a grin when another familiar face came to the front of the line.

Buying sweets for his friends didn't in any way make up for not being there to help during the quintaped attack, but it made Terry feel a little less useless about it all. Being out of the action had been hard on him; he worked best when there was something to work on on or gear towards, and simply sitting around trying to regain his strength had been - was still - boring and frustrating.

Now that he was no longer on his potions and could climb the stairs to his flat without feeling as if he needed to fall over, he was taking advantage of it.

"H'lo," he said, flashing Audrey a quick smile. "A slice of chocolate cake, and...er...what do you have here that's flavourful and requires teeth to eat it?"

"Flavourful and requires teeth?" Audrey asked, the grin on her face spreading quite a bit at the question. It sounded pretty random, but she was used to getting odd questions here and there while she worked behind the counter.

"Well, if you're looking for savory, I've got these ham and cheese rolls, or hot dog pretzels that seem pretty popular... on the sweeter side, a cheese and raspberry pastry might do the trick. Or perhaps just a cheese swirl?" Audrey suggested, pointing toward the items in the case as she spoke. One of her employees gently slid the to-go box with the slice of chocolate cake inside across the counter to them.

"Wow. Yeah." Terry's eyebrows rose as he eyed the items she pointed out, and his stomach reminded him that it had been several hours since breakfast. Might as well get something for himself while he was here.

"Um, how about the cheese and raspberry pastry and the ham and cheese roll in one box, and another roll and a pretzel in another box? Cake on its own."

Audrey beamed when she saw the look on his face. It was wonderful. She loved it when people were as excited as she was about her wares. "Absolutely, no problem." Audrey said, giving him a little grin. She motioned for her shop girl to package up the few more pastries for him into boxes, and she grabbed a bag for it all.

"Very hungry, or are you delivering goods?" She asked gently, making conversation. There was a line, but people seemed to be enjoying the free sample cookies and talking amongst themselves.

Normally Terry wouldn't have taken longer in a line than necessary (he, too, understood the frustration of being stuck behind really slow people), but given that the woman who was selling him some really delicious pastries was conversing with him and no one behind him seemed to mind, he figured it would be rude to just walk away.

"Both, though most of these are going to my friends," he said ruefully. His friendly smile faded into something grimmer. "Quintaped."

Audrey's grin faded a little, too, at the mention of the attack. It'd been a very dark day in Diagon Alley. She was lucky that she was at home in bed when it happened. Her schedule was backward from a lot of other people's since she was up between 2 and 3 AM to start baking. Anyway, she gave a gentle nod when he mentioned his friends, reaching for a handful of wrapped cookies. She tossed them in the bag as well. "Please, send them my best wishes. My boyfriend George was caught in the attack..." Well, more like went running into the attack, bless his heart. "I hope your friends are recovering well."

Terry thought of Anthony and his missing hand, and Hermione with her unstated injuries, but he smiled sombrely and nodded. They would be all right - they were going to make it all right. He had every faith in them to get through this one way or another. He just hoped he'd be around to help.

Audrey's sympathy was touching, though. He'd already made up his mind to return to the bakery after getting a good look and whiff at the pastries here, but her kind words only cemented that resolve.

"Thanks," he told her. "I will. And best wishes for your boyfriend too, yeah?" He offered her his hand. "Terry Boot."

In the chaos of opening Oliver had slipped in the front door of Baxter Bakery and glided straight towards a gap in the crowd at the back of the shop. It seemed the safest place, given the large bouquet of lilies he had picked that morning from his mother's garden for Audrey. Had had thought originally that they might have added a bit of spark to the shop on its grand opening but looking around now Oliver saw that the cafe needed no such help. It was positively buzzing with happy customers.

With a trained finger Oliver lowered his sunglasses just long enough to get a proper look of the lovely little bakery. The decor was warm and welcoming, an atmosphere made perfect for a cup of tea and a good book on a rainy day. The scent of freshly baked goods reminded him of being a child in his grandmother's kitchen and the chatter of customers like a gathering of good friends amongst strangers. Audrey had done spectacularly and Oliver's lips swelled into a smile full of pride for his friend's accomplishments.

Taking a seat in the sun by the window, Oliver pushed his sunglasses back up on the bridge of his nose. Today was Audrey's big day, the opening of her hard work, and Oliver milled about the back of the shop for a quarter of an hour, sunglasses on, hood pulled up, trying to be as discrete as possible sat with an attention grabbing flower arrangement. He waited until the bustle of customers fell to a manageable level before picking up the arrangement and heading to the front of the shop, pushing his hood back and finally removing his glasses, which he hung on the front of his sweater.

'Audrey?' he finally spoke, 'Happy opening, love!'

Audrey saw some flowers moving across the bakery out of the corner of her eye, and a little grin crossed her features. It was like her birthday and Christmas all wrapped into one. Best day of the year, maybe the best day of her life! --Okay, so that might be going overboard. But it was a wonderful, wonderful day, and Audrey felt so incredibly blessed to have so many people around to visit with her and support the shop. Many friends were showing up to show their support, yes, but strangers, too, who enjoyed her pastries through other shops or who had found the coupon in the newspaper.

The line slowly died down, and the flowers that Audrey had nearly forgotten came wandering up toward the front of the shop. She broke into an even brighter grin at the sight of them, and gave a laugh when she saw Oliver's face show up behind them. "Oliver!" She grinned, stepping out from behind the counter to meet him and steal a hug in thanks. "Thank you! Oh, you're so sweet. Are these for me?"

'They most certainly are,' Oliver placed the flowers on a nearby surface in order to properly return Audrey's hug. He let it linger a bit, giving an extra squeeze at the end; it had been a long time since he'd had the time to visit.

'I thought they might brighten up your shop on its first day, but that hardly seems necessary now. This place is absobloodylouty fantastic! I'm well impressed.'

Audrey was rather fond of Oliver. He was friendly, and fun, not to mention standing next to him made her look better. It'd been far too long since they'd had a chance to visit, and Audrey wished they had a lot more time this morning than they seemed to have to catch up. But she was going to take advantage as much as she could.

"Thank you!" She responded, returning the squeeze before letting go. "Oh, you're too great. This is wonderful. They're going to look beautiful right over here." She said, moving to put the flowers at the far end of the counter, next to the fridge full of cold drinks. It really did accent the room beautifully.

"You like it?" She asked, turning back to face him. She couldn't stop grinning. "I'm so glad! I mean, a part of me thought I'd be sitting here alone with a few pity customers and a visit from a couple friends. This is far more than I could have ever dreamed!"

'Bollocks,' Oliver teased, looking about as if to prove his point. 'You dreamed up every last bit of this place. Don't sell yourself short. It's absolutely brilliant.'

And because he couldn't help himself, Oliver's eyes slid to the pastry counter. Everything looked and smelled fresh and inviting and he pointed with an apologetic grin. 'I'm sorry, I've just got to- butter croissant? Please? Then we can catch up. It's just- I- I'm weak. Can't help it. My concentration will be shot until I get a taste.

'I've heard really good things about your biscuits, as well.'

It was nice to know that her wares were so distracting. Audrey gave a little laugh when he asked for the butter croissant. She nodded, then hopped around the counter to grab him a croissant and a couple of cookies. "Don't be sorry!" She grinned, "it's great to know that my food can do that sort of thing to people. It's what I strive for."

"Do you want a tea or a coffee?" She asked as she prepared the plate. It only took her a moment, and then she came back around the counter to hold it out to him. They could sit for a minute, things had died down enough. The girls behind the counter were taking a brief breather, too. They'd bring out his drink if he wanted one.

Just as Eleanor said she would, she came into Audrey's bakery first thing before work. She was just so pleased for her friend that she didn't even let the crowd bother her! She was a little tired, though, as she only had one cup of coffee that morning. And it showed on her face.

"Hey, Audrey," she said with a smile when it was her turn in line. She set her yellow travel mug on the counter, but she kept her hand on it. "Can I have a cup of coffee, please? Any do you have blueberry scones?"

And Eleanor! Audrey was so very pleased that her friend could stop by for a visit. Hopefully they had enough time to talk for just a minute, if it wouldn't make Eleanor late for work... "Absolutely, Sweetheart!" Audrey said. She turned and poured a large cup of coffee for Eleanor while one of her shop girls pulled a blueberry scone out and put it into a little box.

"You look tired! I'm so glad you came, though." She grinned, setting the coffee cup down on the countertop in front of Eleanor. "How's the shop look?"

"This'll only be my second cup this morning," she said, gesturing to her yellow mug. Eleanor was pretty much rubbish if she didn't have at least two cups of coffee in the morning. She had trouble sleeping. "It's so pretty," she added, completely honest.

"Ah! You can't go with just one cup! That's nonsense." Audrey filled it up, but paused and turned back. "Do you need room for milk?" She asked, turning her head back just in time to catch Eleanor looking around the cafe. A very proud and happy grin crossed her features. "Thanks! I'm so happy with the way things turned out."

"Just a little bit." Eleanor only liked a little bit of milk and sugar in her coffee. She preferred it bitter. The kick helped to wake her. "I think I might need to stop here at lunch time too." Eleanor usually packed her lunch, but she wouldn't mind parting with her money at Audrey's bakery.

"You're more than welcome, El," Audrey said, leaving just a little room for cream and sugar. She turned back around and slid the cup across the counter to Eleanor. "I'm going to have some salads and sandwiches starting around eleven, and paninis and pocket pastas starting around four."

Connor arrived at the bakery after practice with a hungry stomach. He hoped that Audrey was still working so he could see her and wish her congratulations. When he arrived, he smiled and started chatting with one of the girls behind the counter who was flitting about, filling orders and asking him about Quidditch. Connor couldn't help but smile as he perused the selections, waiting for his turn.

When the young assistant asked what he wanted, he ordered a few of the hot dog pretzels to eat for dinner, a quarter of the decadent chocolate cake to eat for dessert and had her throw in some chocolate covered strawberries so he could claim eating fruit. "OK, so I'm also going to need two dozen of the bagels in a variety and can I get something wrapped for shipping?" he smiled.

The Shop Girl gave him a dreamy sort of look, and then turned to follow his instructions. She seemed to recognize him, but didn't have the courage to say anything about it. She was plating the food for him, and gave a nod to the shipping question.

Audrey came out of the office in the back, and broke into a huge grin. "Connor! Hi!" She called out, waving as she hurried over and around the counter to give him a hug in greeting. "Oh, I'm so glad you came! Are you picking up something for the team?"

"I want to ship a dozen of those dark chocolate strawberries," he said, trying so hard to be charming and smile, but not embarass the poor girl.

Audrey arrived to greet him and he was off the hook. "Hey baking lady," he grinned, lifting her a little as he hugged her. "Those amazing-looking hot dogs are my dinner and so is the cake," he grinned. "I'm going to store those bagels to give to the team for breakfast tomorrow morning, and I'm shipping the strawberries to someone special," he grinned. "How has your day been?"

The girl started putting together the order for Connor, packing the strawberries carefully into a box. She was blushing and not meeting his eyes.

A laugh escaped Audrey when he lifted her off the ground. "Wow, that's a lot of cake!" She grinned brightly, and nodded. "Wonderful. It's nice of you to get breakfast for the team! I'll throw in some cream cheese, too... I've got some really wonderful flavors."

She gave a sigh. "Oh, what a day. It's been so long! But wonderful." She responded, motioning for him to join her at a table nearby. "I'm exhausted!" But she looked thrilled.

Connor filled out a slip to have the strawberries shipped to Sela then grabbed his hot dogs to bring to the table. "Hog dogs wrapped in a pretzel... and do I see cheese? Merlin's beard, Audrey... they smell amazing and..." he took a bite as he sat down across from her, and nearly melted at her feet. "Marry me?" he mumbled around his bite of food, grinning at her as he chewed.

Audrey laughed, blushing deeply at his proposal. "I think my boyfriend might not like me running off to marry another man." She said. Boy did she love watching people enjoy her cooking. "Not the best thing in the world for you, but... I think they're delicious." She beamed, watching him chew.

"You like? That's a secret recipe right there."
