WHO: Charlie Weasley and OTA
WHERE: At a club in Diagon Alley
WHAT: Lingering after a work meeting
WHEN: Sunday Night

They had chosen the club because it was one of the only places with beer that was open on Sunday evening. Charlie had scheduled a meeting after hours with Madam Hooch to discuss the shape of the teams at Hogwarts. The trick to sports writing in the off season was to find something interesting to fill the gap and Charlie had decided to cover Hogwarts, specifically how the seventh years were faring and who might end up as a good mid-season prospect come graduation in June.

Madam Hooch had headed back to the school, apparated back to Hogsmeade, and Charlie was alone at the bar. Amsterdam had been a bust. He had tried to find pretty, tall brunette girls to distract him, to pretend he was back in a tent in Africa with Penny, but something always clicked in his mind and sent the girls off angry before anyone had even gotten their pants off. Amsterdam had been intended to clear his head, but all it had done was add sexual frustration to his already long list of problems.

He stared at his notepad and sipped his fourth beer. He just couldn't stand to go back and lay awake in bed, alone.

"Ah, well, I'm a lucky bloke, then, right? Drinking with a famous bird. You play an instrument? In a band? Three girls and two blokes, right?" She had dark hair and for a moment Charlie imagined he might let his vision get a little hazy and pretend she was Penny, but he knew why that wasn't working. It wasn't right.

"I'm a lucky bird, drinking with such a fit bloke." She took the refreshed drink from the bartender and leaned in closer to him. Laura just nodded to the question about the band. It was a lie, it was now two girls and two boys, but it was too tiring to bring up now. "What's your name?" She took another sip, it was a little heavy on the booze, but she knew she could take it.

Fit? Charlie liked compliments. "Charlie," he said, offering a hand to shake. "Charlie Weasley. I write for the Sports section of the prophet. Only seems fair to tell you what I do, seeing as I know 'bout your career." Kind of. Had he heard her band? He couldn't remember its name.

Laura blushed a little when she took his hand to shake, though that could easily be written off to the booze. Wow, this Charlie bloke had big hands. It was something girls thought about, and if they end up where she wanted them to, it would make a big difference. "Psh, everyone knows about Merlin's Pants. But writing, that's impressive Mister Charlie Weasley."

"Well, some of it's about writing, but mostly I just know sports better than who they had on staff before." Charlie didn't think he was a great writer, he just knew he had a unique perspective and enough intelligence to express it.

"I'd say being a musician is more impressive, because I can't play anythin'."

"Sports. Dunno much about sports. I like watching, but not enough to read the news about it." She was about halfway through this drink and was getting a nice buzz from it. "I can show you to play." She smirked, running her hand across his again, completely shameless about her intentions of intimacy. If he were any sorta man, he wouldn't say no.

"Show me? I used to play pro," he said. "Before my ear..." He looked down at her hand. His insides twisted. He knew he could take her home tonight, but he wasn't sure he could go through with much.

"Pro?"She thought she meant music, but this worked too. And he used to play quidditch professionally? She totally found a catch tonight. Maybe if this worked out, they could work out something more regular. "Then you should be showing me. I love quidditch players."

"B leagues, but I was captain of the team and going to move up," he said. And then he had made out with Oliver Wood and tried to scrub his brain. Grand times. "Problem was I didn't take the offers from the league right out of Hogwarts. I went off to Romania instead." At least he was getting his ego stroked, even if he wasn't sure he could follow through on his flirtation.

"That's still really cool." Laura smiled and felt his bicep. "You're still really fit from it too." She leaned on his shoulder, listening to him talk, and perking up when he said Romania. The band had done a show in Romania, and it was one of the coolest places they'd gone to. "What were you doing in Romania?"

"Rehabilitating dragons," he said. "I went out there right after Hogwarts. They take in dragons that are injured or have been in captivity and get them used to living in the wild before releasing them. Sometimes we were just a holding facility between transportation to natural habitats. We never released Chinese fireballs into the wild there."

"Dragons? Sounds dangerous." This guy, even if they didn't shag (and in her mind, there was a very slim chance of them not) was pretty cool. Quidditch player and Dragon rehabilitation? Totally outshines playing bass in a band. But people like her were famous and people like him weren't. It was one of the strange screwed up parts of life that they just had to deal with. "I like a guy with a sense of adventure." True, but it was also a sad, if-not-drunken-getting-there attempt at a pull, to make things go a bit faster.

"I have that," he said. His sense of adventure had been extremely limited by the fact that he was half-deaf now. "You play in a famous band, though. You must get to go all over the world."

"Well, yeah" She smiled at him before looking at the bartender and asking for another drink. "We don't get to spend too long in one place, it's always like that, play a show or two and then we're taking the next portkey out. It's fun sometimes though. Meet a lot of cool people."

"Well, I'm sure you get to see some stuff. The extent of my world travels would be Romania, The UK, and Egypt." He shrugged.
"Egypt was pretty wicked, but even as a grown man my mum wouldn't let me get near the Sphinx."

"Yeah, I see some weird junk." Laura giggled as another drink was put in front of her. "And you find the best hash." She gave him a bit of a smirk before tipping back the glass and taking a big gulp.
