Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: Anonymous Aftermath
Author: purple_alicorn
Rating: FR13
Warnings: Death
Word Count: 255
Author's Notes: I wanted to focus not on the typical Konoha nins of the Naruto world, but instead on what would happen to an anonymous, cannon fodder nin. No genders or identifiers were used, deliberately, in order to emphasize that it could be anyone.

The press of battle brought Naruto up against Sasuke for a moment, before they were parted. The blow intended for Sasuke instead hit another, anonymous Sound nin, blowing a hole in their chest, while Naruto suffered a glancing blow which stung briefly before healing instantly. The body fell, unnoticed, while the battle raged and moved on.

After the battle was over, the non ninja residents of the Hidden Village of Sound emerged from hiding to survey the devastation. The village was in ruins. Due to the ferocity of the fighting, the body was left where it had fallen, among the debris. Suddenly, one of the children let out a cry, and, evading an adults too-late grab, ran to the body, not wanting to believe that their only surviving parent could have died and left them alone. The anguished screams of the child echoed though the remains of the battle devastated street, refusing to be silenced or comforted in any way.

The other residents started to gather their belongings, salvaging what they could. There was no future here for them, with the nins of the village crushed. One by one they recovered what they could, leaving behind anything that was not essential for survival. Finally, after the child lapsed into exhaustion, one of it’s neighbours picked it up and moved it away from the corpse, into a salvaged wagon. Slowly they started to make their way away from the shattered remnants of their previous lives, the only accompaniment being the muffled crying of the orphaned child.
