We wanted to give a quick wrap-up of what happened today, so that everyone is on the same page as to what happened and who knows what. Don’t read this until you’ve read the previous logs (especially this, this, and this), because, spoilers.
Public knowledge
The ringleader of the Vol Squad is Andrew Parish, the boy who won the fight that caused the Seattle Incident. He is a known telekinetic.
The serum that was released was modified from a serum that was stolen from NwRI by Vols Rising. In his speech that was broadcast on-campus, Andrew claimed its original intent was to depower Vols, but that the VR had modified it so that Vols were now immune. Later in the day, the IVF admitted to the press that some experimental drugs were stolen from NwRI, all of which had been procured from the scene of the European kidnapping. They claim that it was being stored at NwRI for research purposes only.
A little over a thousand students and staff were killed. The official story is that the serum killed all non-Vols who came into contact with it almost instantly.
Another 750 or so students and staff were saved due to the efforts of the Squad.
The Covert Team members of Vol Squad were noticeably in action today - they were definitely separated from the other students, and were already at the scene when the rest of the squad came.
One member of Vols Rising was killed, Feng (power of Flight) (RIP FENG!!!), who was one of the Vols who was "kidnapped"/broken out of the Chinese school. How he was killed hasn’t been publicized - right now it’s just considered to have been a part of the scuffle. His body is being returned to Chinese officials. In addition to the Squad, there were IVF guards and local law enforcement on the scene, both of which could have been responsible.
The media in its reporting is being very clear about distinguishing the difference between Vols Rising and the Vol Squad, and the vast majority of reports are highly complimentary towards the Squad for their work in saving hundreds of innocent lives.
Open to speculation
Squad members on scene may have noticed a few La Trobe students who came into contact with the serum did not die, even though official reports are that everyone did. Mike and Javier were the only ones who saw any begin exhibiting weird symptoms - possibly became Vols themselves. Squad members on scene are more than welcome to speculate, but the survivors were taken to a government facility before anyone would be able to confirm, and official reports are that everyone who came into contact with the serum died. If asked, all IVF officials will stick to the official story: there were no survivors of the gas and there certainly weren't any students who developed powers. This is also what Mike & Javier will be told, if they inquire about the girl.
The fact that the covert squad worked in California is not public (unless/until it gets confirmed by a covert a squad member) but it’s reasonable that some people may speculate about it, especially those who know about the phone Lilja and Rose worked on.
