This is not something I ever expected to have any insight into - but I have renewed admiration for those of you amongst us who are parents. Babysitting is quite exhausting.

It is, however, also rather fun.

'Fun and exhausting' is an accurate description. It is also profoundly rewarding in ways I could not have anticipated before becoming a parent.

I can imagine it would be, yes.

[…]

I do not think I was aware you had children.

It sounds as though you already have a better understanding than most.

My son isn't here, nor would I wish him to be. But I think of him often all the same.

I have been fortunate, I think, to be able to observe how rewarding it is. Even if the experience is only mine by proxy.

Perhaps, you might tell me about him? If I am to regale you with tales of Asgard, I think it only fair you return the favour.

[…]

Unless that might be painful for you?

Before my son was born, I would have insisted I had no interest in the experience. You may yet choose to have children of your own.

You are very perceptive. [...] I will think on it. It has been a long time since I've spoken of him to anyone.

I've always enjoyed babysitting.

It’s a rather new experience for me.

Well, unless you count getting clambered on by Volstagg’s army of offspring. That rather felt more like they were sitting on me though.

At least it doesn't sound like an unpleasant one.

A number of things. But I suspect you may have enjoyed the impromptu lesson in swordplay.

Most impressive for a first lesson. I could certainly make warriors out of them both.

We should give them a demonstration. Could be informative.

I thought about kids once, but it was a 5 second dream I think. I don't know if I'm cut out for it. Babysitting a squad of grown adults was too much for me sometimes.

Oh, I know that feeling all too well. In that respect, I suppose I have done a great deal more babysitting than I first thought, with regards to my brothers in arms.

Watching the many ways they all got themselves into trouble made me question whether or not I could keep a kid out of some. It's almost impressive how quickly a group of soldiers can get in over their head in a bar.

I quite agree. I could not begin to count the number of times I had to bail them out of trouble.

You'd think after the third time, I would have left them in it so they would learn their lesson and yet.

I would rather sling coffee at angry mombies than babysit, not gonna lie.

The coffee or the mombie?

I got blindsided. It was a 'meet the parents.' It was [...] definitely not what I was expecting.

Oh. It's a portmanteau of mom and zombie - the shuffling, bleary-eyed, half awake monstrosities that try to take your head off if you're not quick enough with their caffeine.

Nicer. Really normal. Which sounds weird to say.
