fr: filming emergency preparedness shorts

we're makin' movies!
throughout the week, pru & crew can be seen around the island working on a series of emergency preparedness shorts. the topics of the shorts range from general first aid, CPR and evacuation, to extremely specific situations, like someone falling into a sleep so deep only a kiss from their true love can awaken them, or what to do when faced with an army of baby egg monsters.

while filming making concussions into funcussions, [volunteer 1] slips and gets a nasty knock on the back of their head. pru loves the realism, but the shot itself is kind of fucked, can we do that another two or ten times?

don't lose your booze is about all the dumb shit drunk people can get into, and how to help while keeping your buzz. ellie decides to go method and take a few shots, and there's a beautiful shot of them horking up their lunch that's gonna look great under the title.

the shortest short of all is your egg monster & you: what to do when it inevitably joins its brethren and tries to kill you, in which callie just screams "RUN!" while lulu dies loudly and dramatically from egg monster wounds. the helpfulness of this short has been disputed, but it's better than pru's first idea (eat them before they can eat you).

feel free to say your character participated in any of these shorts, whether they mentioned it ic or not, and make up any topics/titles/shenanigans you want! it's a free-for-all!!

Joe has made himself available to observe most of the filming in case they have a technical question. He is also almost certain someone is actually going to get hurt, and they might actually need him to perform the heimlich or treat a concussion.

His arms are crossed, and he sort of shakes his head in a disapproving manner as some of the others prepare for a scene. “We might all be doomed,” he mutters skeptically to the person closest to him.

Diana, who was only here out of coven solidarity, glanced over at Joe. "Yes," she agreed. "Does that surprise you?"

Joe looked over at Diana and chuckled, “Sadly, no.” He continued to watch while some of them practiced CPR. “TWO HANDS. HIGHER UP.” He yelled the pointers out before shaking his head again. “Christ.” He looked Diana up and down, a corner of his mouth hitched up. “You gonna grace us with a performance?” He asked although he was sure he knew the answer.

"I'd rather have one of them perform CPR on me," Diana said dryly, tilting her head toward the cast. "I'm just here for support. You?"

“You sure about that? Because I bet you someone tries to use tongue.” Joe jokingly scrunched his nose. “Honestly, I think I’m mostly here to make sure no one gets injured.” He waited a beat before adding, “Or killed.”

"Only if they want to lose their tongue," Diana said. There was a hint of humor in her voice, but the truth was clear.

She nodded, a her lips curving in a slight smile. "I think this group needs the supervision."

Leaning back, she crossed her arms. "How do you think they'd do in a real emergency?"

Joe raised his eyebrows in an expression that was both impressed and terrified. He made a mental note to never piss her off.

“Oddly enough, I think they’d all survive. But not on purpose. It would be a complete accident.” He chuckled but then thought to add. “And because they have such good supervisors.”

Joe managed the rare feat of eliciting a laugh from Diana, light and airy. "I think you're right. The worst damage would be the hangovers the next day."

Arching a brow, she said, "I think you probably came along at the right time. They're lucky to have you supervising."

"Probably," Joe agreed and then continued to press more for his own curiosity than for anything else. "Something tells me you have a cure for that?"

Joe gave her a slow grin at the compliment. "Thanks, I hope I can do some good." And then, because at times he liked to push his luck, he asked, "You know, you seem really competent. I bet you'd make a good supervisor too?"

Diana nodded her head once. Yes. "It was the first cure I made on the island. Priorities quickly became clear."

Her gaze drifted over to Joe's, but this time her smile lacked humor and she shook her head. Looking away again, she said, "You'd lose the bet. Don't mistake me for being more altruistic than I am. There are a few people on this island that I'd go to any length to protect, but when it comes to the good of many, that's what they have you for, hero."

Joe had more questions about how she made the cure, but he pocketed them for now. Maybe it was something he could learn, and so perhaps he’d ask her at later time.

He paused to assess her. He was pretty good at calling bluffs, but this didn’t seem to be one of them. “So what does that make you then? An observer?”

She shrugged. "Something like that. I lived one lifetime when getting too involved didn't get me what I wanted; I'm not interested in doing it again now."

Diana was quiet for a second; weighted, like she was balancing a set of options in her head. A moment later, she sighed. "Are you a member of the Adventurer's Guild?"

Joe paused to consider everything she had shared. Sometimes he was grateful his source didn’t have as many moving pieces as some of the other stories. “Wish I could say I understood what you meant, but—“ He shrugged and let the sentence drop. “I think that’s fair, to try and choose a different path this time around.”

“I haven’t joined yet.” He paused before adding. “Wait, are you a member of the Adventurer’s Guild?” He may have sounded a little more skeptical than he wanted to.

Diana thought it was better for him that he didn’t understand, but she didn’t say it. Instead, she mimicked his shrug and said, “Thank you.”

She meant it. Sometimes it felt like every day was a fight; she appreciated the simple acknowledgment that there was validity to what she was trying to do. For a second, her esteem for Camilla’s boyfriend rose.

And then any trace of goodwill was wiped away. “No,” she said, insulted. “It’s a stupid club with a stupid name that’s resurrected a stupid cause from over a millennium ago that should have stayed buried.” She shot Joe a disappointed look before shaking her head.

…

“But I think you'd like it."
