Don't Ever Do That Again, You Hear?
Who: Belle and Cooper
When: Early morning
Where: Mike-3

Belle hadn't slept a wink after Cooper'd come back with the biggest damned wolves she'd ever seen on his tail from his night time excursion. Normally, that kind of thing wouldn't have worried her so much, Cooper had dealt with more dangerous things than big damn wolves, but every time she closed her eyes, she saw him laying on the floor of the bar, unconscious, maybe even dead. Even half a bottle of Jack hadn't helped. So as soon as the sun rose, she was up. She decided to make breakfast simple, just some coffee and French toast and eggs.

"Honey, breakfast is ready," she called to Cooper as she set out plates for both of them. She hadn't bothered to get dressed neither, just wearing her robe over her nighty, her hair clubbed back from her face in a low, sloppy ponytail. She splashed some of the whiskey left in her bottle into her coffee and sat down to mostly stare at her food.

Twice in two days. Twice in two days she'd been in real danger of losing him. Belle closed her eyes and breathed out hard. She needed to find her damned nerve pills, but didn't have the slightest idea where their kidnappers had put them, if they'd even sent them along. She'd heard too many people call them placebos and tell her they was just sugar, but right now she needed something.

At least he was wearing bottoms. Most of the time, Cooper slept in no more than what he'd been born wearing. Not that Belle minded. She took a drink of her coffee and started picking at her food.

"Mornin'," she greeted, offering him a feeble smile. God, how could she even tell him she didn't want him out of her sight after the last two nights? It wasn't that she didn't trust him. Oh no, she trusted him more than anybody in the whole damned world.

But she just couldn't get the image of him sprawled out on the floor of their bar out of her head. She swallowed hard. "I don't think they sent my nerve pills with us," she muttered absently.

"Hi," Coop answered, reaching halfway across the table. Halfway to the coffee, his hand changed directions. He was still half-asleep, but it didn't take a slap in the face for him to see that something was the matter...and it was pointless to ask her what was on her mind. In a place like this, what wouldn't be? "You okay?" he asked softly as his fingers twined through hers.

She had his full attention -- nothing was more important to Coop than his wife and her happiness, and if there was anything he could do -- or had failed to do...

No she was not okay. Belle sighed and squeezed Cooper's hand in hers. "No," she said. "You scared me to death last night, Cooper. I saw them wolves that chased you and King back last night." She looked away.

"And after comin' down to find you on the floor of the bar-" Did she really need to finish that sentence? "Coming close to losin' you two nights in a row's too much, darlin'."

And now the tears wanted to start and Belle didn't want to cry. Crying would only make Cooper feel bad, and it really weren't his fault anyway.

Belle didn't have to cry to make Coop feel bad. He could imagine how he would have felt had Belle been the one out in the woods at night...and he remembered how he had felt when they'd been attacked. He was a big enough man to own up to being a childish idiot.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Bennett," he told her softly. "For not thinking of the spot I was putting you in. I promise you that I'm done making you worry." It required him to lean forward some, but he lifted her hand to his lips. He was done playing in the woods at night and disappearing without a trace for hours at a time. There was plenty he could find to do in the Village and around Belle - he never even thought to defend his actions.

That weren't helping. Not at all. She didn't want to make him feel bad. Now she wished she hadn't told him.

"Hon, you were just trying to find out what was out there and keep us all safe," she protested, shaking her head and rolling her shoulders. "And I'm being silly. I know you know better. I just-"

Just what? Couldn't stand the thought of losing him? Yeah, they both knew that. "I'm sorry, this is all just making me jittery."

Coop gave his head a resolute shake. "Honey, you know I'd never do anything to upset you." Yes, he felt guilty for making her worry, but he would never resent her for it - it wasn't the way their relationship worked. Scooting his chair closer to hers, his arms went around her to pull her into his lap.

"And you know I like being around you." His lips touched her throat in a soft kiss. "I can think of several things I can do that would keep me nearby..."

"Cooper, it ain't your choice this time," she reminded him. "These people, they can do whatever they want to us and we can't do nothin' about it." Okay, she hated admitting that. But it was true.

Oh, he wasn't getting it. "It's not that, darlin'," she sighed as her arms went around his neck. "I can't lose you." There was no consequences given, because Belle didn't even want to think about what she'd do if she lost Cooper.

"You're not going to lose me," he answered confidently not simply stating so but truly believing it. Oh, he knew precisely how helpless they truly were. He -- and likely Belle as well -- had been taken without a fight, and Coop was not a man who gave in easily. On the Island, there was even less they could do to fight their captors -- this was, after all, a sort of prison for them...

But he also knew it would also drive them crazy if they thought about it and nothing else. And he certainly didn't want to talk about it.

"No matter what happens, we'll get through this together. And I love you. You know that."

Yeah, they really hadn't been able to put up much of a fight. Probably because of how smart their attackers were. Especially considering the other prisoners sounded like they didn't get to put up much of a fight neither.

And he wasn't getting it and likely on purpose. Belle nodded and just clung to Cooper tighter "I know," she agreed quietly. "I love you too."

Which weren't really helping here. But nothing would. Time to suck it up and move on, since there wasn't nothing to do for it.

"Just no more running off into the woods at night, all right?"

"Yes, ma'am," her husband responded with a somber smile. "I'll be right here as soon as the sun sets." After his encounter with the wolves, he was all too eager to stay in town at night. Although no one had been hurt, it was still unnerving that the wolves had been brazen enough to not only approach them but to follow them back into town as well.

Coop's arms squeezed his wife in a gentle, loving hug. They had to be thankful for the small things -- they were alive and together, and they were fine -- so far, anyway. They had no choice but to take one day at a time.

"Anything else I can do to see that pretty smile this morning?"

"Before, or ain't getting no dinner," she reminded him. "Which is what I'm spending every afternoon doing. If you wanna help me, knock on doors and let people know I'm making dinner every night and any time after 5pm and before 8pm, it'll be hot. After that, I'll just leave it out."

Yes, that was what she could do. That and Cooper would keep her sane.

"Just keep coming back to me," she told him, giving him a little smile. It was the best she could manage right now. It was all she'd ever asked of Cooper really. But here, it was even more important than before.

That was certainly something Coop could manage -- and with pleasure. "Yes, ma'am," Coop repeated, smiling at her in response. "We won't go hungry with you in the kitchen, at least," he added. Belle was likely to spoil everybody with her cooking, but that was something Coop was willing to live with.

"Can I come help you make ice cream later?" he asked with a smug smirk. Coop knew how to make exactly five things: sandwiches, stew, steak, hamburgers, and ice cream. Ice cream, of course, had always been his favorite. It was a recipe purportedly passed down through generations of Bennetts...

Now how could she say no to that? "That'd be a real nice treat for everybody," she agreed. "I can't remember the last time you made ice cream."

She probably didn't ask him to do it often enough. That ice cream was good. "Maybe I'll see if there's some fixin's for apple pie. Always goes good with your ice cream."

"If you're going to be baking, at least one of those pies is coming home with me," Coop answered immediately and with a grin. He was almost as much in love with her pies as he was with the woman herself. "On second thought, you had better make that two," he added thoughtfully. "Or I won't have any pie tomorrow."

Belle knew better than to leave Coop alone with a pie. Like any kid with his favorite toy, the man required constant surveillance -- or at least reminders that Belle was watching. Fortunately, she didn't make many sweets, or he probably would have ended up with diabetes.

Belle rolled her eyes at him. "If can find the fixings and a few pie plates, I'll make one special for you," she assured him.

Really, he was like a little kid when it came to sweets. She'd make them more often, but Cooper'd have developed diabetes or something because he just don't have no control when it comes to her baking.

Sighing, she settled against Cooper. "Thank you," she murmured. "For not leaving me." Not that she should have ever been worrying about that anyway.

"You know you're my world," he answered softly as his arms encircled her to hold her close. She was his very lifeline. "I'm not going anywhere, Belle, I promise."

Despite all of his reassurances, he found himself comforted by the feeling of his wife in his arms, basking in her scents and the feel of her soft skin of her arms against the rougher skin of his hands.

"You better not," she sulked softly. Not that either of them could do much about it if they decided to take him. But thinking about that weren't gonna help.

Right now, holding onto him was the only thing she wanted to do. The rest of the damned island could go to hell for a little while. She'd care about everybody else more once she'd calmed down.

For now, there was just them.
