Time/Date: Evening, September 29
Location: Library
Warnings/Rating: Distressed witch; language
Summary: Ariana cannot find any relief from the music
Status: Complete

There was no where to go. She'd thought about going outside, but as volatile as she felt in regard to her magic, she didn't want to unduly risk lives, and she was scared to find a shack of her own. Perhaps if someone else went with her, she'd go, but in the meantime, she was seeking hiding places.

She'd tried under her bed, but it was uncomfortably dusty. She'd tried on the roof, but it was worse. She'd given consideration to trying to hide her head under water for a bit, but was afraid she'd drown. She thought about finding Lizzy or Tyler or someone to see if they could help, but she didn't think that would be the case.

There was no where at all inside the hotel to go that the noise wasn't going to reach her. So she'd taken a pillow and some cotton balls, and retreated to the library. She'd found a place behind some chairs, and she'd curled up there after plugging the cotton into her ears.

This was not at all conducive to anything, and she ached for it to be over.

The brunette guy just sort of nodded his head, and smiled at her answer. A month and a half could be a long time, or no time at all depending on the type of person you are.

He watched as she settled down in one of the chairs before answering her question. "Yeah, umm, just got here about a week ago, I think? Dunno, haven't really kept track," Daniel shrugged, but at least he was being honest.

The music continued blaring, but at least now it had gone softer. Unfortunately, the softer music meant that the lyrics were clearer, and Daniel couldn't help but grimace.

"So, you like this shitty music, or you actually have taste?" Daniel asked.

Ari had to giggle a little. She'd heard others express similar opinions on the music, and she shrugged. "I don't think it's music," she called -- not as loud as before, now that the music was quieter, but still loud enough to be heard.

"Everyone says it's just noise." Yet some of those very same people were singing along to the noise. By now, even Ari herself had grasped on to the lyrics of a lot of the songs and could recreate them from memory if she had to.

Not that she'd want to. But she could.

"Where are you from?" she asked, deciding that it was kind of acceptable to attempt to have a conversation with him in the slightly quieter situation.

"Sounds like everyone's right," Daniel stated, mentally adding in 'for once'. The music kept going, and Daniel really wanted to just find the damned speakers, and shoot them all. Too bad though that he didn't know where the speakers were, and too bad also that he didn't have any ammunition for his gun.

"Me? Well, I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but the very last place I was, 'fore being kidnapped, was Rome," Daniel answered. "What 'bout you? Where you from?" he decided to ask her.

"Godric's Hollow," she called back. "In England," she added. There was a pause, a scant few seconds of silence, before a new song began to pulse the speakers.

Ari sighed. She'd begun to really, really look forward to those seconds of silence between each song.

While she didn't know where Rome or Wisconsin were, she didn't think asking for clarification was going to help anything. If it was outside her tiny world of the Hollow and the house, she wouldn't know anything about it anyway.

Her lips pursed and twisted slightly before she shrugged her shoulders and swung her legs a little. Dark blue eyes drifted toward the ceiling, but of course there was nothing there to see.

"Do you have any friends here?" she asked. Whether she meant had he made any friends here, or was anyone here that he'd known before, she didn't clarify.

At first Daniel didn't know where Godric's Hollow was until she mentioned that it was in England. "Been to England once before, never been to any Godric's Hollow though," the young man answered.

He too noticed the pause between songs, and rolled his eyes. Yeah, great, get to listen to that stupid song where the video is about kinky candy land, or some shit, Daniel thought to himself.

"Friends?" Daniel asked, "Naah, haven't had the time to make any."

Ariana almost pointed out that he probably couldn't see it anyway before she thought better of it. Because then she'd have to bring up that she was a witch who couldn't actually do anything with her magic, and she really didn't want to go there.

"It's a very small town," she settled for with a solemn nod to "explain" why he hadn't heard of it, as if it were somehow an issue that needed explaining.

"I have a friend," she said. "Her name is Lizzy. She's only eight though, and she has a cat named Cheshire." She nodded. "I'm sure you'll make friends, too," she assured him -- as if Daniel had even expressed any interest in doing so.

The pale skinned guy nodded his head half-heartedly when Ariana mentioned that she lived in a very small town. "Couldn't imagine livin' in a small town. Think I'd grow bored out of my flippant mind," Daniel told her.

And then of course, Daniel didn't really listen to her talk about this friend, although he had heard her.

"Yeah..." he started, "Maybe I will make myself a friend, or two," he said with a smile.

Truth be known though, Daniel only had one (or was it two?) friends during his entire life, and that had been good enough for him.

Ari dropped her eyes slightly. Bored ... she'd known that feeling very well. Trapped in the house most of the day, hidden away, kept a secret because no one knew what to do with her. So she shrugged, and abandoned the topic of small towns and boredom.

"There are a lot of people here," she offered as she lifted her eyes to regard him. There were probably even people around his age, but she was really bad at trying to guess people's ages. "Most of them are really friendly and helpful," she continued.

She shifted and fidgeted a little, and wondered if Lizzy was around or looking for her or anything. Then she wondered if she was being boring and decided she probably was.

Not that Daniel really wanted to keep the conversation going, but Ariana was proving to be a great distraction from the crappy music. It was for this reason that Daniel decided he was going to stick around just a little longer. "Yeah, right, lots of people means more opportunities," Daniel said.

Normally that'd mean more opportunities to kill, but Daniel had sort of made a promise to...something not to kill anyone for shits and giggles.

"What kinda music d'ya actually like?" he asked with a smile.

While she hadn't exactly thought if it in precisely those terms, she supposed he did have something with that. It did make sense; the more people there were, the better odds of them finding someone they could make friends with.

So she smiled to his observation, then shrugged to his question. "We didn't have much music where ... when ... I'm from," she admitted. "Not inside our houses, anyway. I only went to a concert once, but ... I was too young to really remember it."

But she'd had music since she'd come here, so she decided to go with that. "I like instrumental things. Quieter music. And I really like the brook noises that are supposed to help you sleep."

This confused Daniel for a moment, and he had to ask, "What time period you from?" Sounded to him like she was from some old, already gone point in time, but he thought that he could be wrong.

"Instrumentals always good," Daniel replied with a nod of his head. "Never been much of a fan of this music myself, more into," Daniel paused, because he had a feeling that Ariana wouldn't understand him. "I like the louder instrumental music. Think they call it 'post-rock' or somethin', not sure why though."

After some more thought he added, "Also a bit of fan of shoegaze."

"It was 1899 when I came here," Ariana dutifully reported. "Before I came here," she amended as she furrowed her brow. That was more proper, wasn't it?

"I don't know what that is," she admitted when he stated the kinds of music he liked. She'd picked up a lot of things here, yes, but most of it had come from Lizzy, and Lizzy wasn't very well versed in those sorts of things to have shared anything like that.

"I wonder if anyone likes this stuff," she mused aloud.

He gave an amused whistle when he told her that, and softly went, "Dayum." He then continued, "Being pulled into 2032 must have been a culture shock for you then." Daniel himself had been ripped from 2015, but actually he couldn't tell if he should have been experiencing culture shock or not.

"Oh, yeah, shoegaze seriously got it's name, 'cause the singers would just stare at their shoes while playing. Great music to listen to, but boring as fuck to watch."

He glanced at the book, and then either out of sheer minor sadism, or boredom, he started to fold the corners of each page. "Anyone who does has no taste," Daniel answered matter of factly.

Ari shrugged. "Being pulled anywhere would have been a shock. I ..." she hesitated, then decided she didn't want to get into the circumstances she'd been existing under. Being kept inside, being a burden to her brothers. No, she didn't want to try to shout all that over the music.

"Oh," she said in response to his description of the music. She tried to envision that and found herself coming up with some interesting pictures.

A little grin crept over her lips at his statement. She was sure someone had to like this stuff. Just ... not at the current volume or repetition.

"I'm going to go find Lizzy," she announced to him. Napping down here was out of the question, and she was fairly certain she'd exhausted her social skills for the day. New people wore her down, even now.

Daniel nodded his head, and when she announced that she was going to find someone named Lizzy, he was cheering on the inside. It wasn't that he hated this girl; it was just, he didn't see her as anything he could use for his own gain.

"Hmm? Oh, right, have fun with that!" he exclaimed; then smiled at her. He sank deeper down into his seat, and started re-reading the book he'd been messing with earlier. However, the book was starting to bore him, so he put the book down, and went to search for another book.

"Wonder if they have any war novels," he muttered to himself.
