They had come a long way, he and Harry had, if the other man was entrusting his daughter to his care tonight. Of course, Harry had been entrusted to his care himself, so apparently he knew what he was doing, even if Lily would probably have rather died than entrust her son to him at that point in her life. The thought that she had died rather than do so flitted briefly across his mind, but Severus quickly suppressed such a notion. He would need his wits about him tonight, if their captors decided to up the stakes, yet again.
He took a deep breath, closing his eyes briefly, as he cleared his mind of all emotion. That calm, centered place within his mind was located quickly, and it was a welcome relief, after the past few days. Occlumency itself was far too taxing to keep up all the time, but tonight -- when others were depending upon him -- he could do it for the duration. Of this shift, as a backup for Miss Potter and Blake's protégé, and then again for his own shift with Magius in a few hours. Pity he couldn't have given everyone a crash course in Occlumency, as well.
Severus made his way down to the lobby at about a quarter to midnight, standing just inside the exterior doors. As he waited for the other two to join him, he finished off a bar of dark chocolate. It may have not looked as if he was doing much in particular apart from chewing, but he was also practicing. Repressing all happy memories, along with allowing just one to cross his mind for a second or two before repressing it again. Just long enough to cast a Patronus. Or give it an order. He almost had it down to a science, after so many years, but now was decidedly not the time to become complacent.
When he saw someone approaching, reflected in the glass behind him, at first, the only sign he gave was a slight flick of his eyes to those of the reflection. But then he nodded in acknowledgment. He suppose he ought to have attempted a reassuring smile, at least, as well. With his Occlumency at full power like this, however, the closest he could come, he feared, would not have been recognizable as such. So the nod and the quiet confidence would simply have to speak for him, instead.
