Jaime hadn't had any reason to think anything was off that morning. Not really. She hadn't been able to sleep well, so she finally gave up. Pressing a kiss to Mal's cheek and leaving him a note that she'd gone downstairs, Jaime snagged the pages of names and headed downstairs. She felt the first twinge of unease when she passed the empty kitchen ... but maybe Lily just wasn't up yet. It could happen, especially if she'd stayed up late worrying.
So Jaime shrugged and decided she'd go start on the directory project and let everyone know who'd "gone home". She began to compare the notes to the book, and felt her stomach clench uncomfortably when she realized ... Lily's name wasn't in the book. The granddaughter's name was there, but not ... not her Lily's name.
Shifting her weight uneasily, she continued to make a list of missing people. It wasn't a huge list, but she wasn't sure she'd been expecting that. She definitely hadn't been expecting Lily to be gone, and ... that hurt. Still, she posted the list of names to the network, like they'd said they were going to. Jaime then turned off her Blackberry; if Mal wanted to find her ... he knew she was downstairs.
Numb, she wandered over to one of the couches in the rec area, sitting down. She stared blankly at the TV and belatedly realized this probably meant she had her power back. Funny how she really didn't give a fuck about that just then. Not with Lily gone. It was funny how she didn't realize how much she counted on Lily for ... things. For company, for cooking, for ... stability. And now Lily was gone. They'd all been so sure she wouldn't be taken because she'd been here forever and wasn't a mistake.
While Jaime wanted to believe that Lily was home, that Lily would be able to live her life (short though it would be unless she remembered and could change it), that Lily would get married to James (the older version of him), Jaime knew in her heart that wasn't the case. No one had gone home. They ... were probably tucked away in some lab being experimented to death.
Lily, and Dug, and Spike. That poor sweet little girl who was scared of her own magic. Lily's son. She didn't really know the others well, but she hoped they were home, too ... and not where everyone knew they really were.
Rolling her Blackberry around between her hands, Jaime continued to stare blankly at the dark TV screen, too lost in her own thoughts to really care that it wasn't on.
