Summary: Dave draws a circle, even if it won't do him any good
Status: Complete
Dave did not have his ring. Dave did not have parts of his Incantus -- but he had some of it. He had a picture of the circle, and it was something to do. He could work his magic without his ring -- usually. But not here. At least he wasn't alone in that though; no one else could work their magic, either. Like they were really going to attack each other. Please.
He hadn't really made much of an effort to seek out Balthazar. He was a bad liar, and he really didn't want to deal with any questions about his defeat of Morgana. And everything that happened afterward. It was easier to just let him assume that Morgana was dead, and that Veronica had gone with her. Somehow. He wasn't sure why that seemed like the best idea, but it was what he'd settled on for now. To spare Balthazar the pain of ... knowing that he'd get her back but couldn't have her right now. Somehow it just made sense not to share any of that.
Dave just wished he'd never known that he'd gotten together with Becky. It would make being here, away from her, easier. Speaking of Becky though, he dropped one hand to rest on the wound on his side. The doctor had patched him up, and for the most part he was fine. Except when he stretched or slept funny. He hadn't seen the girl since then, but no big surprise there. He kind of hoped he didn't see her again, especially if she was going to stab him again. That had been less than fun.
Carrying what was left of his Incantus out to one of the open spaces of the island, he snagged a stick on the way. There probably wasn't a point to this. At least, not right now. But there might be a point later, and hell, it wasn't like he was doing anything else interesting right now.
Finding a cleanish spot with minimal scrub-grass growth, Dave held the book in one hand, the stick in the other, and began to recreate the pattern of the circle in the dirt.
