I may be alone in this but I think that that was...quite fun, actually. It felt good to be able to paint again. And to be relieved of my memories for however brief a time Alright Lucy, that's enough of that I have spent a lot of time living a lot of lives, though, so perhaps that is why.

Love the jacket I received, too. Capes improve everything.

You make an excellent Basil Hallward.

I am glad to hear as such. I hope that I did him some honor.

Most stories end in sadness, if we're being truthful. I can't speak for your Basil but if it brings you any comfort, I didn't hate the Dorian I knew, even as [...] it was happening. I felt more sad that something had driven you to that moment.

I think [...] When someone is told they are bad, or perverse or evil enough times, it's something they begin to believe. Something they act on.

Dorian, call me Dorian.

Did you learn anything about yourself? Being Basil, I mean.

Lucretia. A pleasure to meet this version of you, Dorian.

I've had enough experiences in this world that I don't think that there is anything more to learn about myself, but... I felt [...] innocent, in a way. Perhaps younger is a better way to put it. The way that I did a very, very long time ago. It was almost invigorating.

How many lives have you lived?

And I'm pretty enamored with the dress I got outta this scenario.

Quite a few. A hundred as myself, though perhaps an edited version depending upon what was required. And one as the opposite of who I wanted to be, but who I had to be. That is the one I came from.

I'm over the 8 billion mark but I'm guessing we live out lives a lil bit different. I live other peoples and not my own alternate versions.

Do you think you'll get another after this one?

And here I thought I would win. Impressive.

I hope not. I did what I did so that my friends and I could finally settle. It didn't work out as well as I'd hoped but we got to live for a few years. We were in the middle of getting ready to hopefully defeat the force that was causing this when I was brought here.

Indeed. Perhaps it's because I always felt so central to the world's safety, whether what I did truly helped or not, but it was relaxing to be so insignificant.

I can agree to that.

Although, I think that we may be more alike than you think. I only felt the need to protect in order to prevent the destruction that I brought about. Is there a bit of a less black and white comparison to make?

Perhaps a diplomatic mix of the two. Comforting because you know that you aren't alone in having to make these decisions. Scary because there are so many out there who had to make them.

Perhaps. But I find it odd that they chose me to be an artist, of all things. I loved to sketch and paint when I was younger, so it seems almost purposeful in a way.

I'd suggest the Museum of Natural History, but I think it's just out of bounds.

Even then, many of us come from very different versions or times of the same world, but there is a clear bias for Earth environments so far. Where is it that you come from?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]arkanis
2017-11-23 03:49 am UTC (link)
Different versions, yes. But it seems to me there's a certain common history. A shared matrix of cultural references. Perhaps I'll find a helpful guide in the gift shop.

I was born on a planet called Arkanis, but I was raised on a ship - on a number of ships. We were from many different places, but all driven there by the same catastrophe. Not unlike here.

[info]agentthirteen

It's surprising how a few but significant changes to a shared history impacts and compounds the differences between worlds so greatly. I imagine context would help make that more clear. I think we take for granted that the majority of us are from Earth, from a certain time period, and the same region. I often wonder what the significance of that is to our selection.

What was this catastrophe?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]arkanis

As to how we've been selected - I doubt any of us could say. But your disproportionate representation certainly has other effects.

The galaxy-wide government was suddenly and violently destabilized. My father was a prominent member of that regime. Quite a lot of us were forced to flee.

Don't be. That's not the first time I've died here, nor the first time in general. And it was not you who was doing it. We were all in our roles. We may not know each other well but from what I have seen, I do not think that you would be the type of person who would do this normally. I know a thing or two about having to fulfill a destiny that you may not want to take on. I do not blame you in any way.
