Hey hey hey! Lily here, all up in your RPG comm, setting up your date auction.

First off I want to apologize for not getting this up earlier. Excuses include a lack of sleep last night, busy morning, and an 11-year old register at work deciding not to let anybody close (it was trolling and I was not amused). tl;dr--I suck. :D

ANYWAY, so, here goes the date auction (many thanks to the fantastic Callie for the idea)! Below this cut is a list of people up for auction. If your character is not on this list and you want them to be, send me an e-mail ASAP (thespiffinator@yahoo.com)! Also below the cut are the rules. Play nice!

IC Rules
  • Professor Puddifoot's decision is final! No exceptions. There is not a published "limit" on any student, but she reserves the right to end the bidding and award the student to the highest bidder at any time.
  • The starting bid for any student is one Galleon. Please only bid what you can realistically afford! Minimum bid increment is one Sickle.
  • Students will be auctioned in alphabetical order*.
  • Remember, you may not bid on someone in your own house.

OOC Info
  • * = unless we forgot somebody, then their comment will go at the end, and everybody should pretend it's in the proper place, for timeline purposes.
  • Each character gets their own comment thread. For an example of how the bidding should go, see here. Feel free to have the character being bidded on react to how the bidding is going, either positively or negatively (but Puddifoot will take points/give detentions if they're too rude, just fyi).
  • If someone signed your character up and they would not turn up on their own, feel free to assume Puddifoot found them, got them out of class, sent a house-elf after them, etc. Whatever was necessary to get them up on that makeshift stage!
  • Students who are being auctioned off are free to bid on other students. Students may also bid on students of their own gender, though they will probably get some strange looks (not everyone supports free love, after all).
  • One (1) Galleon = Seventeen (17) Sickles. Please refrain from using Knuts, for neatness' sake. There is a currency converter here so you can think about how much money your character is about to spend before they spend it. Keep in mind that these rates are as of 2007, and this auction takes place in 1977, so money is worth more than it is today (that is a really, really shitty way of explaining it, but you know what I mean. Forgive your exhausted modlet.)
  • If you have discussed OOC the results of the auction with another player and you want to make sure that X Character wins Y character, feel free to e-mail a mod, and we'll make sure that that happens. ;)
  • If your character isn't getting many bids, don't worry! That's what giggly younger students are for ♥
  • I personally apologize for Puddifoot's comments. She is a terrible, embarrassing person. Worse than your one embarrassing aunt. She takes her wig off when she's drunk.

"Our first Slytherin in quite some time, the gorgeous Miss Veda Patil has the brains to go with her good looks! She's quite the package, gentlemen!"

More than happy with Puddifoot's assessment, a third year Gryffindor stepped up. "One galleon!"

Isaac wasn't really sure whether or not he should bet on Veda. He wanted to, certainly. He had to admit that the idea of going on a date with Veda seemed pretty brilliant, but would she feel uncomfortable? Isaac was certain Veda didn't sign herself up for this auction, this definitely wasn't the sort of thing she'd willingly participate in, but he had to admit, he was a bit excited when he saw her name on the list. Still, Isaac didn't want to mess up their friendship with any awkwardness when it was only in the early stages.

But then a third year stepped up and placed a bet. A third year? Even Isaac didn't think he'd be bold enough to bet on a seventh year when he was thirteen, and he was a complete hormonal prat at that age.

Of course, another issue was that Isaac didn't really have too much money. Maybe if he only increased it by a little bit, the third year would lose his nerve. "One galleon, five sickles!" Isaac called out. There. Now maybe he could get a date with Veda and if she thought it was weird, he could say he only placed a bet so she wouldn't have to spend an afternoon with a third year Gryffindor...except, that really wasn't the only reason he bet at all.

Veda was doing her best to maintain a calm expression, even though internally she was squirming uncomfortably as she was really not very keen on the idea of this auction. Professor Puddifoot’s descriptions sounded like they could all too easily be coming from her parents’ mouths at some meeting with a prospective husband, and the thought made her feel rather nauseous.

She had to concede that it was impressive that a random third year Gryffindor had been brave enough to bid on her, but nevertheless it was somewhat odd, and her eyes were already scanning the crowd so that she could signal to Xiang to rescue her.

Only, then a different familiar Ravenclaw voice spoke-up, and Veda’s eyes widened. Isaac?! Of course, it was very nice of him to get her out of a date with the third year, but she felt a bit bad that he’d maybe been planning on bidding on a girl who he actually wanted to take out. Unless –- but no, of course that particular line of thought was absurd, and she was obviously just over-thinking everything as per usual. Veda flashed Isaac a tentative but grateful smile, and she chose to ignore the small voice in the back of her head wondering why she felt quite as giddy as she did.
