Though people often didn't seem to believe it, Munch was, in fact, a Ravenclaw, and his Sorting had been no accident. He didn't seem like your stereotypical Ravenclaw at first glance: indeed, his spastic behaviour seemed more fitting of a Gryffindor, or perhaps a Hufflepuff. Appearances weren't everything, however, and Munch was not a book that ought to be judged by his cover. It was undeniable that he was an easily distracted, high energy person, but he was motivated in many ways by his love of learning.
Today, he had learned that his Care of Magical Creatures class was going to be studying hippogriffs again, in preparation for their NEWTs the following year. Over the summer, Munch had read a fairly fascinating book on hippogriffs, which included some magical recordings of hippogriff calls. He had spent a few days memorising them and practising them, and now he was glad he had. Excited for his lesson, he ate lunch quickly, then headed down to the paddocks.
Once he was there, he let himself in, too impatient to wait for Professor Kettleburn to arrive. Munch headed directly towards the first hippogriff and bowed, then engaged it fiercely in a staring match. After several sections, perhaps after any sane student would have run quickly backwards, the hippogriff finally bowed to him, and Munch excitedly responded with a loud, shrieking cry that was a fairly decent imitation of the noise that a happy hippogriff made. The hippogriff merely looked confused, but Munch wasn't about to give up. Undeterred, he tried the hippogriff greeting cry he had learned instead.
