WHO: Brandon and Leah
WHAT: Emotional sibling times; dealing with not knowing where Kori is.
WHERE: Madison Square Garden.
WHEN: 11/13/19, afternoon.
RATING: Medium for language.
STATUS: In progress
There was guilt, which sucked. And then there was gut-wrenching guilt that you felt down to your very core. Brandon already felt guilty about what had happened on Liberty Island, knowing that he'd inadvertently caused all of those people to die and be hurt. As someone who'd formerly been tasked with keeping the city safe; as someone who prided himself on trying to do the good thing, the right thing? Knowing that he'd caused so many good people to die, even indirectly, was murder.
And to have Leah hating him again—she could pretty it up however she wanted but Brandon knew—just made everything worse. And now? Now they didn't have any fucking idea where Kori was. Because Brandon was stupid enough to think that he could take the Ellis Island crazies down. His second thoughts, Charlie's story, had been the only things to change his mind, and they'd come too late. The price was being paid and it wasn't even being paid by him. The people at Liberty, and now his own damned sister were paying it.
Facing Leah was going to be impossible now. But he knew that he had to sooner or later. And that he'd deserve every single thing that she threw at him.
He stood in front of Madison Square, the heavy snow falling around him and putting an accurately desolate feel to the place. If your sister dies out there, it's your fault. No matter what anyone tells you... he thought. Sucking it up and preparing to deal with the consequences of his stupid, irrational actions, he swallowed thickly and pushed the door open.
In the back of his mind, he expected it to look like the Green Mile or something. Everyone staring at him, judging him, knowing that everything that was happening was his fault. But no one was. That was rightly reserved for Leah, he supposed. Sucking in another deep breath, he set about searching for his oldest sister, trying to mentally prepare himself for what he was fairly certain was on the way.
