Brennan wasn't sure what exactly they would require to help their research endeavor. Eloise would have a greater idea of what kind of things that would be the most beneficial to find in the school they were going to look through. He would have asked her more about it, but their schedules hadn't matched up very much in the past few weeks, and outside of a few conversations on the forums, or through notes left in the basement, they hadn't spoken much. Brennan had a lot to deal with, what with the sewer expedition coming up, Jake and Kate, their fighting, the wound in his shoulder not healing, and the fact that whatever stress disorder he had been gifted with had started really flaring up more so lately. Of all the relationships Brennan had, the friendship he shared with Eloise was the least complicated, and it was a blessing to be able to be without the other stressors in his life which are slowly working his body to critical levels. Brennan had actually spent a few days trying to remember the prescription medication he used to take, but couldn't recall its name.
He had an idea of the location of the school, and it wasn't too far away from the library. From what he estimated, it wasn't that much further than the distance from the Public Library to NYU, so it could safely be a day-trip. That was certainly an upside, since he wouldn't have to consider packing for a trip that would take days to complete, and short trips were usually simpler and the shorter distance worked well with the idea that they would be coming back with more than they left with, and while Brennan was strong, there was no telling how much they would find there, and he was human after all.
Brennan had been up most of the night, unable to sleep like usual, and had retreated to the second floor to observe the small pack of Shufflers that had appeared a few days ago. He had taken down information about their numbers, the state of their bodies. A few of them had actually started looking worse for wear over the course of the few days they had been gathered around the same building, with the most degenerate ones adopting different movement patterns.
This trip out was as much for gathering equipment as it was for field research. Most of the infected that he's seen around the streets lately have been Shufflers, and they were easy enough to observe and gather data on than most other kinds because of their limited mobility, though once they get to the school, there was no telling what would be there if there was anything. Brennan was prepared for the worst, and protecting Eloise and himself ranked higher than curiosity or research.
Brennan, now that he had everything he believed he would need for this trip, waited by the front door of the library, where he had stated in his note he would wait for her today. While he waited, he watched the people inside the building walk around, talking, laughing, wondering how different the sight would be for him if he wasn't four years into losing his identity. He shifted uncomfortably at the thought, his small paranoia of reaching the edges of that black hole, something he found more terrifying than any of the infected, was not something he ever wanted to think about.
So there he stood, absently cleaning one of his knives with a cloth while he waited instead of observing the crowds.
