AU Day!
SCENARIO: Zombie-free New Year's Eve!
WHO: Leah & Charlie
WHEN: December 31, 2018; around 11:00PM, an hour after this.
WHERE: Between Bryant Park and Times Square.
WHAT: Charlie encounters Leah just in time to save her from a mugger.
RATING: High, for swearing probs.
STATUS: In progress.
So much for staying awake until midnight. Leah smiled as she strolled slowly down West 42nd Street, away from the Marchand family's get-together and into the busy throng of Times Square. Marigold's head rested against her shoulder, the four-year-old fast asleep and in dream land. Leah had known her daughter wouldn't be able to stay awake until midnight, but the girl's insistence matched against the the fact that Leah had been unable to find a babysitter on New Year's Eve, had convinced her to give Marigold a chance to see the new year's first minutes. It wasn't the safest night to be out wandering the streets. Leah knew that much. But she had her taser in her purse, easy enough to get to if the need arose. She hoped. Just to be sure, Leah shifted Marigold to her other shoulder and slipped her hand into her purse, closing her fingers around the cool metal of her weapon. It was comforting, knowing it was there and within reach. She withdrew her hand, returning it to her daughter's back, patting it gently. As she passed a dark alley, a rough hand thrust outward, gripping her arm painfully. Leah cried out in alarm, jerking back instinctively, but the man's grip was strong. Panic flooded her. The hand held prisoner was the only one available to go for the taser. Leah knew self-defense, but the concept was impossible unless she wanted to risk letting go of her daughter. Which she didn't. So she did the only thing she could do. She screamed for help. |
