WHO: Leah and Vienna
WHEN: November 3, 2019; mid-morning
WHERE: Leaving Kori's room, then wandering.
WHAT: Chattery.
RATING: Probs medium.
A heartbroken sister was one of the worst things in the world. Worse still, Leah knew her youngest sister’s pain. Not under the exact same circumstances, no, but death had taken the loves of both their lives. Kori’s heart wasn’t just broken; it was shattered into a million pieces, not unlike the front wall of the prison. The past few days had been rough. On the first night and into the next day, Evan and Leah’s apartment had been full to bursting with people coming and going, offering sympathetic words for the family’s loss. Kori had been inconsolable those first twenty-four hours after Mike’s death. Neither Leah nor Lilah had left their younger sister’s side for very long, and although Kori did get the majority of the attention because of her relationship with Mike, Leah worried just as much about how her brother was handling losing one of his best friends. It was a harsh blow for the Stones; one of many they’d had during this year alone. Sing Sing was no safer than New York City had been. If Leah had to go out on a limb, she might’ve said that living at Sing Sing was worse than living in the city. Sure, they had more freedom here, but security and defense had been much better in the government safehouses. There had been no suicide bombers in the city. No Smashers either. She wasn’t sure she even believed what she’d said to Evan about their second year here being better than the first. So many people they cared about were gone now… How could things be any better? Lilah insisted on staying with Kori until dinnertime. Leah didn't want to leave. She was exhausted, yeah, but they all were. None of them had slept much since the incident. It was Kori’s insistence that made her agree to take a break. Leah couldn’t console properly if she was too tired and, besides that, she had a few other people to check in on. George, for one. That had been a difficult call, leaving Evan’s sister to be watched over by her boyfriend while Leah tended to a heartbroken sister. She’d spent as much time with George as she could, but there were other people to look out for her, and Leah suspected George would’ve preferred someone else to be with her anyway. Still, she planned to check in on her extended family. Once Leah got herself moving and made it outside, she wasn’t sure which direction to head in first. It seemed like there was so much that needed to be done. She rubbed her hands down her face, staving off some of her weariness, before letting her feet take her wherever they wanted to go. |
