Now wasn't that a thought? Vienna could see truth in Leah's words though, after all it seemed only a very small portion of people used the network to communicate, which granted wasn't the only form of meeting people, but it did seem like the easiest. "In that case we might not be. Or they're just lazy, which would probably still make us a couple of the least social." Not that Vienna wanted to be one of the least social, but she also wasn't going to change who she was simply to make friends. She couldn't stop herself from wondering what things would have been like if she had had people around her when Thomas died, but she wasn't going to dwell on it. Now all she could do is maybe make the same situation easier for someone else.
Rumors had always floated around about the government doing shady things. But never once had Vienna thought they could be so heartless as to take a child from it's mother. It made her wonder what she would have done if Ledger had been taken from her, which also made her wonder why he hadn't been. After all he had been born in a government facility. "Wow, that's unbelievable," she wouldn't ask what had happened though, she figured if Leah wanted to talk about it she would have said more. "I would have never guessed that you'd only just got Mari back." Because Leah didn't act like a mother that was still trying to get to know her child, at least not around Vienna.
The information about Mari brought up a lot of questions in Vienna's mind. What was the government doing taking children? How many others had been taken? Should she have some concern about them invading Sing Sing and taking Ledger? Maybe it was stupid thought, but now it was a thought she had nonetheless. It was definitely an amusing image, Ledger trying to get his aunt to interact with him. "Bea's better at it than she thinks, but there's still these moments when I can just see she has no idea how to react to him. I'm sure she will, though if you ask Bea she'll never be comfortable around kids." Which Vienna didn't entirely think was true, but she was trying to pick her battles when it came to Bea.
"That's kind and all, letting them stay until winter's through. But do they know if they've got anything else up their sleeves?" Vienna had become more and more suspicious over the years. It had become a necessity, and now it was hard to turn it off. "I mean they've already proven they can't be trusted." And she wasn't about to go giving them the benefit of the doubt, not yet anyway. Maybe if they did something to prove they were reformed she might change her mind, but that was a long shot.
Vienna sighed and again counted herself lucky as one of the few people who hadn't been forced into as much work as some others had been. Although, she had a feeling Leah never went silently to whatever task the government goons had told her to do. "Honestly, I can't believe Bea found someone loyal enough to continue the search for me. No, not all family is." It hadn't even been a month ago that Vienna had been of the mindset that Bea was dead. "You've got most of you family here, right?"
