“Not everyone knew,” Leah said. “I imagine there’s still quite a few people here who’re still in the dark as to what the government had planned.” She ducked her head. “It’s not exactly a good feeling, that’s for sure. But it is what it is. She’s with me now and that’s all that matters.”
“Security’s decision was an unpopular one, I think. But at least most people seem to be accepting it. They’re watching those three like hawks now. I’d be surprised if they managed to get away with anything else.” And if they did manage it? She wasn’t sure what would happen.
She stood with Vienna in the line, although she wasn’t particularly planning on getting a drink. Maybe she would once it was her turn. “These days you have to cling to whatever family you have left. I always panic and overreact when shit like that bomb happens.”
Leah was quiet a few moments, trying to think of something more to say. She wasn’t exactly the best at idle chit-chat, but she was trying to get better at it. “So we’ve talked about the wall and we’ve talked about Kori. What else is there?” Probably a blunt way to go about planning a conversation topic, but hey, sometimes segues were elusive.
