02:24 am - HP Tarot Award Winners!

[info]hp_tarot Fest Round Three, Awards List

Thanks to everyone who nominated fic and art for awards! We got a LOT of nominations, and I was pleased to see very often the same piece would get similar or the same nomination from multiple people. Also, many of the best pieces were nominated for multiple things – I chose only one award per piece, though.

Before we get into the art and fic awards, we have a few special awards to announce, for Best Commenters:

[info]lotrwariorgodss was the most frequent commenter in the fest, making some on IJ and some on LJ and I *think* not missing a single contribution.

[info]severed_lies was next, for not only the most comments on IJ (100% of the art, and all but the final 3 fics!) but also many thoughtful and well thought-out comments.

On IJ, honorable mention also goes to [info]kabal42 for art comments.

On LJ, honorable mention for comments goes to [info]angelbabe_cj, who commented copiously on fic and art, and to [info]meghan70 and [info]sugareey for art comments especially.

And now to the awards for fic and art contributions. There are a lot of them, so they are under the cut.

Some really creative awards in here... )

Contributors to the fest, your award banners can be found here:

http://esoteric-renaissance.com/hp_tarot/banners/

named by your journal name. You can snarf your copy of hotlink from there to put your banner up in your journal or in your userinfo! Please do!

Thanks to [info]beautyfulevil for making the banners!

12:00 am - Volunteer Wanted
I am just about done compiling the awards for the latest round of HP Tarot, and am wondering if there is an intrepid volunteer out there who would make the award banners for us?

Your main job would be in two parts: design the banner, and then make JPGs or PNGs of it for each winner, filling in their name and what they won. I'd give you the list of those on, say, Monday or Tuesday of next week, and I'd want them back within 2-3 days?

A sample banner from previous rounds is under the cut )

03:26 pm - Tarot Fest Award Nominations! Open Until Sept. 14th
Replies to this post are screened, to keep all nominations confidential.

This is the post where you tell us what you liked in this round of [info]hp_tarot! We are soliciting your nominations for the best fic and best art, based on the qualities that *you* found most appealing. Nominations close: on September 14th at midnight Eastern USA time.

Best characterization? Best use of color? Most exciting plot? Most squee-worthy moment? Make your nominations based on what you liked best! If a fic or piece of art stood out for you as award-worthy, nominate based on the quality you liked, or simply say it was "the best"!

There is no specific limit on how many awards we give out, but I would guess at least 8 stories and 8 pieces of art should be recognised. This isn't a competition per se, it's a chance to recognize high quality and outstanding achievement. You may nominate as many contributions as you want!

I would especially appreciate if artists would nominate art as I don't know beans about it, honestly. Best composition? Most evocative? Best figure drawing? Tell me what pieces moved you and why they deserve to be recognized. Likewise with fic: most surprising pairing (that worked)? best AU? most beautiful prose style? Nominations are very freeform, so speak up if something caught your eye! You need not read or see EVERY post, just nominate the ones you did find worthy of note! (To see the previous awards we have given, see this post: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/36149.html)

We'll also give awards to the best commenter(s)! So please do comment on the fics and art you enjoy. Comment often and in depth if you can!

All awards will be in the form of a banner suitable for posting in one's userinfo. If anyone would like to volunteer to make the banners, please comment also. :-)

Under the cut, a list of possible categories, for those who really need them: )

01:57 am - Posting starts Monday!
Just a reminder that posting for [info]hp_tarot starts on Monday!

The hosting site for the art is up and running. I'll post detailed directions on art submission on Sunday but the short version is: you'll email me your art (and a thumbnail), I'll put them up on the web, and I'll email you back the URLs so you can make the post to the comm(s) yourself (for ease of commenting/replying). Suggestions from experienced artists on what sizes and resolutions things should be are welcomed! I'll work them into the detailed directions, too.

Fic writers, remember all fics must be posted in the comm directly and not fake-cut to your journal. (You *are* welcome to make fake cuts that point TO the comm, however, at your own journal and in appropriate other comms!) And don't forget you are required to have a beta reader, and please be sure it's someone who actually can help you fix errors of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

I'm working on my own fic still and it's at 15,000 words right now. Yow!

04:49 pm - Reminder: 18 Days and Counting
In another 18 days, posting begins in the latest [info]hp_tarot fest!

Anyone who hasn't joined the comm yet, please make sure you have so we can give you posting access. Your mod(s) will be at Terminus August 6-11, also, so I'd like to make sure as many issues are handled beforehand as possible. (I'm expecting to have internet access, but won't be looking at it much, what with all that is going on there!)

It'd save the mods some work if those who have both IJ and LJ accounts would do their own posting in both comms. So please join both! Those who are only in one site or the other, you'll post just to the one you have access to and a moderator will do your mirror post for you (hopefully in a timely fashion).

IJ: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_tarot/
LJ: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/

Please remember to leave sufficient time to have your fic beta-read. Posts with embarrassing lapses of spelling or punctuation may be struck or removed until corrected. if you need help finding a beta, the time to ask is NOW, not after you've finished your fic and plan to post it within 24 hours.

We have an art hosting site--I'll post details on how art posts and archiving will work some time next week.

03:31 am - One month until we start posting!
Just a reminder that we are a month away from the start of posting at [info]hp_tarot! Fic writers, please be lining up your beta readers. Also note that I'd rather have a fic have proper spelling and punctuation and be a day late, than be on time with spinach in its teeth.

I look forward to seeing everything next month! I'll post a reminder closer to the time with the posting instructions again, and info about our offsite art archive (assuming that comes together in time).

And I'll be at Terminus in Chicago for anyone who'll be there! *waves*

01:26 pm - HP Tarot Posting Schedule
Under the cut, the DRAFT of the table showing the dates of posting for each participant. If you have a problem with your date, like I spaced out and in the shuffling around moved you onto the one day you can't do, or I spelled your name wrong, or anything else, please comment or email me! Once any issues have been worked out, I will mark this as "final." OK?

I believe [info]stonegrad is the only one I actually moved from their requested week. I had you in the original draft as August 24, then bumped every body back by 2 days, moving you to August 22. Let me know if that's OK.

I will cap off each week with a day where the only posting is a summary of the week's posts, to allow people to catch up.

At the end of the fest, after the master list is posted, I will give people two weeks to make Award Nominations. What's that about? It's basically a chance for people to email the mods and say which entries they think deserve awards. There is no specific limit on how many awards we give out, but probably the top ten stories and the top 5-6 pieces of art? This isn't a competition per se, it's a chance to recognize high quality and outstanding achievement. (To see the previous awards we have given, see this post: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/36149.html)

08:22 pm - Apologies for spamming your flist...
Our apologies if your flist just got spammed with [info]hp_tarot back entries. We just backed up the comm from LJ to here at InsaneJournal.

Although LiveJournal's recent clarifications of their policies regarding adult content seem to make it a marginally safer environment than it was during the heat of Strikethrough, we will continue to maintain this mirror comm here.

Another consequence of the backup is that the SIGNUP POST got pushed to the bottom of the comm. If you are looking for the it click the link below:

03:28 pm - Apologies, round 2 pre-wrapup, round 3 questions
LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]ravenna_c_tan)

Apologies to all who are following this comm. I'm terribly late with two things, writing my own story for the fest, and posting the round two wrap up post. Mea culpa! I'll also update the master table of all the cards done in fic and art from both rounds!

Hopefully I will get that done over the weekend.

We've kicked around various ideas for round 3 including:

- you draw your own prompt (or a mod draws it for you) from a tarot deck

- an all slash round

- an all DH-compliant canon round

- an all AU round

Anyone have other thoughts and ideas? Post here!

Also, LJ has introduced a new 'adult' content/concept marking system. Some of the stories here are explicit, but more than half of them are gen/PG-13, so I am going to mark the comm as containing "adult concepts." If I'm reading the instructions right, to view the comm from now on, people will need to be logged in users with birthdates showing they are over the age of 14 years old. We'll continue to require warnings on explicit content and such, just like before.
