Time to lead this off. Thanks to [info]ravenna_c_tan for hosting another round.

Author: [info]bdk
Type: Fiction
Length: 1979
Main character or Pairing: Lavender Brown/Harry Potter
Rating: PG-13

Card Interpretation: The Four of Swords represents an inner retreat that you are currently taking. Your present situation is very difficult and you may be in the midst of much turmoil. A temporary truce seems to be in place, and you are now seeking recuperation within. The swords on the wall symbolize your previous battles, and the sword at your side represents your current conflict. You will soon take up the sword again. 11:38 pm - Deadline for claims is July 31st!
Just a reminder to all and sundry that claiming in the [info]hp_tarot fest is coming up fast: July 31st is your last day to put in claims!

Still not claimed for fic:

Five of Wands: "Sometimes called 'The Lord of Strife.'" Who does that sound like to you? Snape? Lucius?

The (Lightning-Struck) Tower: "The alchemy of destruction is that it gives
birth to truth and strength." -- whether you feature the astronomy tower or merely a metaphorical tower!

King of Wands: "A passionate man, handsome, noble, conscientious, strong, individualistic, but inclined to be hasty or willful." Hmm, which Gryffindor could that be? Godric or Harry or...?

Five of Swords: "Feelings associated with loss and defeat. It is a card that warns of impending failure should one continue in their present direction." Would that be Lucius, or Draco? The art claim for this card is open as well!

Among the art we still need!
Justice!
Four, Nine, and Ten of Wands!
Five of Swords!
Three, Five, Nine and King of Cups!
Six, Eight, and Knight of Coins!

Jump in, please! See the full list of claims available here: http://hp-tarot.livejournal.com/59390.html
And place your claims here: http://hp-tarot.livejournal.com/60534.html

03:06 pm - Keep those claims coming! Four more now available!
Turns out we had accidentally left four cards out of the claiming table! (They had fallen out of the master list mysteriously!) So I've added the three, five, and knight of coins, and the five of wands, to the available cards! Check out the revamped claiming table here: http://hp-tarot.livejournal.com/59390.html

And post your actual claims here: http://hp-tarot.livejournal.com/60534.html

And if anyone sees anything else missing from the master list (we had also somehow lost the links to Venturous and Zephre's art, restored now!) please drop me a comment there so I can fix it. Thanks! (Master list: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/36598.html)

01:29 pm - ROUND FOUR CLAIMING POST!
CLAIMS ARE NOW OPEN FOR ROUND FOUR!

HOW TO SIGN UP:

1. Make sure you have read the Fest rules & FAQ.
2. Check out the Claiming Table and choose a card that has NOT been previously filled in with the type of contribution you will make. In other words, if there's previously been a fic but no art for that card, it is available for art only. Likewise if it was previously done with art, but no fic, then it is available for fic. What's not available is marked as "DONE" and what is available has a blank spot under "Claimed by."
3. Also check the comments above your own to make sure someone didn't just claim it before we had a chance to update the chart.
4. STAKE YOUR CLAIM! By commenting to this post on LJ: http://hp-tarot.livejournal.com/60534.html#cutid1 using the template provided below! (If you don't have an LJ, comment anonymously there.)

You do not have to have any experience or prior knowledge of the Tarot for this fest. Total beginners are welcome.

11:05 pm - Claims open on Friday!
That's right, claims will open on this Friday for the Potterverse Tarot Fest, which will be run on Livejournal, InsaneJournal, and Dreamwidth... that is, if I can get someone experienced in the ways of DW to handle the crossposting there for me? (I had one volunteer, but she hasn't answered email or pings since her initial "I'll do it" so I need someone else ASAP or that mirror won't happen.)

Just paste the code below into your own blog or journal to pimp the fest with our beautiful banner, made by Venturous!

Claiming will start at 12 noon Eastern US time, just cuz that's where I am. I will probably put up the post before that---probably late at night after I get back from the movie premiere! But don't start claiming too early! ;-)

Also, for those on InsaneJournal, the claiming post will be only on LJ to prevent duplication of claims! If you don't have an LJ you can leave an anonymous comment with all the relevant info on the post, though! OK?

03:41 am - Pimping banner!
Thank you, [info]venturous for this fabulous banner!

The HP Tarot Fest will be mirrored on IJ and DW,
but the claiming post will be on LJ only to prevent duplicate claims.
Anon comments may be used for those without LJ accounts.

Just copy and paste the code below into your journal to have the whole banner and links complete!

04:48 pm - Fest pimping advice?
OK, what am I missing? When it comes to pimping a fest, it's been a few years since I did it.

I posted at HP Book of Fests and Potterfests,

and I emailed to these fandom newsletters:
Potter Prophet on IJ
Quibbler Report (rarepairs & gen)
HD Prophet
SSHP Prophet -- (Alisanne already wrote me back to say she'd list it!)
HP Art Daily

But there must be places I don't know about. Where else can I pimp it? I especially need to reach artists.

Venturous is making a pimping banner for folks to use in their individual journals. We'll have that Monday, I believe!

Fanfare please! This is the [info]hp_tarot Round Four Announcement Post!

Here's some preparatory info about the next round of the Potterverse Tarot Fest.

We will have room for a maximum of 25 writers and 25 artists, and slots will be assigned first-come first-serve. Signups will begin on July 15th and run to July 31st unless all slots are filled before then. THIS IS NOT THE SIGNUP POST. This is just a preliminary post to get you prepared.

11:45 pm - Claiming Table Preview
To start getting folks psyched up for the fest, I'm posting the current draft of the claiming table.

Please make suggestions for characters or situations from the HP books that match these interpretations, or suggest an alternate interpretation! I'll fill in some more as we go.

The way the table is set up there are separate columns for FIC and ART claims. If a column reads DONE for a particular card, that means that was done in a previous round and is NOT available this time. If there's a blank space under your desired format (for or art) though, it is open for claiming.

Claiming will not start until July 15th, so don't start trying to claim yet! For now, just suggestions of any other characters, situations, or interpretations you'd like to see!

09:22 pm - Getting Ready for Round Four
I'm prepping for the fourth round of [info]hp_tarot!

Is there anyone out there who would like to volunteer to be co-moderator? What would be especially awesome is if I could have one co-mod for IJ and one for DW to handle the cross-posting? With fandom scattered across all three sites, I feel we need to mirror on all three places. The DW mod would need to set up the comm there...

I could also use someone to make the award banners at the end of the fest. I'd give you a list of winners who would need banners made. Last fest there were over 40 banners.

Just to help everyone get psyched up for the fest, remember this? Slide show of some of the previous gorgeous art... (under the cut...)Read more... )

06:54 pm - Archiving the Comm?
I've caught wind of some recent news about LJ wanting to deactivate inactive communities. I also hear they backpedaled, but it brings up a good point, which is that it might be prudent to archive the community over at the Archive of Our Own.

If you don't know what Archive of Our Own is, it's a fan-run open source archive for fanfic and fanworks, and is one of the projects of the Organization for Transformative Works. Google them for lots more details.

I'd like to not only archive the previous posts and such from this community (meaning both the LJ comm and the IJ mirror) over at AO3, and get in gear to do a new round of the HP Tarot fest.

Any thoughts? Please comment! Or drop me a line in email (ravenna_c_tan at yahoo dot com).

02:58 pm - HP Tarot Poll!
Any of you who have been following my regular journal know I've been slammed with RL writing deadline for the past year, and it's going to be like that for the next 10 months at least, but I am trying to get the time to sneak in a new round of [info]hp_tarot.

FYI, for those of you who haven't seen an amazing HP themed deck on Deviant Art, check out: http://ellygator.deviantart.com/gallery/#HP-Tarot

As I make my plans for our next round, here's a very simple poll:

WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER WE DO NOW?
1) A round where we try to really fill in all the cards that aren't done yet with art and fics, so we can have a "complete" deck

2) A 'swap' sort of round where writers use the previously created art from the fest as prompts for new stories, and the artists use previously written fics as the prompts for new art?

3) Some other idea I will detail in comments...

Cross-posted to the LJ comm, IJ comm, and my journals!

02:24 am - HP Tarot Award Winners!

[info]hp_tarot Fest Round Three, Awards List

Thanks to everyone who nominated fic and art for awards! We got a LOT of nominations, and I was pleased to see very often the same piece would get similar or the same nomination from multiple people. Also, many of the best pieces were nominated for multiple things – I chose only one award per piece, though.

Before we get into the art and fic awards, we have a few special awards to announce, for Best Commenters:

[info]lotrwariorgodss was the most frequent commenter in the fest, making some on IJ and some on LJ and I *think* not missing a single contribution.

[info]severed_lies was next, for not only the most comments on IJ (100% of the art, and all but the final 3 fics!) but also many thoughtful and well thought-out comments.

On IJ, honorable mention also goes to [info]kabal42 for art comments.

On LJ, honorable mention for comments goes to [info]angelbabe_cj, who commented copiously on fic and art, and to [info]meghan70 and [info]sugareey for art comments especially.

And now to the awards for fic and art contributions. There are a lot of them, so they are under the cut.

Some really creative awards in here... )

Contributors to the fest, your award banners can be found here:

http://esoteric-renaissance.com/hp_tarot/banners/

named by your journal name. You can snarf your copy of hotlink from there to put your banner up in your journal or in your userinfo! Please do!

Thanks to [info]beautyfulevil for making the banners!

12:00 am - Volunteer Wanted
I am just about done compiling the awards for the latest round of HP Tarot, and am wondering if there is an intrepid volunteer out there who would make the award banners for us?

Your main job would be in two parts: design the banner, and then make JPGs or PNGs of it for each winner, filling in their name and what they won. I'd give you the list of those on, say, Monday or Tuesday of next week, and I'd want them back within 2-3 days?

A sample banner from previous rounds is under the cut )

08:16 pm - Awards nominations to close soon in HP Tarot!
Reminder! Award nominations are due by the end of the day on September 14th. (We're calling that 3am on September 15th, Eastern US time, how's that?)

Nominate whatever pieces you loved, for whatever reason. There is no limit on the number of stories or artses you can nominate.

The main thing is that people praise the things they liked. The comments are screened to keep wank to a minimum and let people express themselves easily.

Nominate on IJ: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_tarot/58133.html?mode=reply
Nominate on LJ: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/56987.html?mode=reply

Some examples of nominations:

"I'd like to nominated [info]cyane_snape for an award for going with the cards, regardless of how depressing the outlook and producing something so painfully beautiful."

"[info]winkout for her Three of Wands picture for best visual interpretation and most orginal. I like how instead of having three physical wands or just using one person acting out the meaning, she used the Black sisters to represent the wands and the possible definitions for card that she gave. "

"I'd like to nominate "Chained" by [info]svartalfur for fic most in need of a sequel!"

"raspberry_rave's Nargle Droppings for Best Post-Battle Slytherins!"

"venturous's The World for Excellent Composition and Most Ambitious Use of Symbols and Totems"

Masterlists are up in both comms so it should be easy for you to browse and find what you like!

11:12 pm - HP Tarot Master List!

[info]hp_tarot Fest Round Three, Master List

Sorry for the delay in getting this list up on IJ!

I've divided this list into fic and art, listed chronologically. With so many rarepairs and gen works in the fest, it didn't make sense to divide them by pairing, though each main character or pairing is listed below.

Please remember as you look at/read to NOMINATE the great contributions you like for awards! Did you think a piece of art or a story was outstanding? Nominate it for something! There are no set categories for the awards. Did you think the interpretation of a character was wonderful? Say so! Was that a terrific plot? Nominate it for best plot! Was the use of color incredible? Nominate!

The nominations post is here: (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_tarot/58133.html) Please help us say thank you and recognize the very best contributions to the fest. We'll also give an award to the best commenter(s)! So as you work your way through the posts in the fest, make sure to comment! (Nominations cutoff is Sunday Sept 14th, 3am Eastern US time)

In the end we had 21 fics (several in multiple parts), and 19 art posts encompassing 34 different works!

ARTSES! )

FICSES! )

ravenna_c_tan
03:26 pm - Tarot Fest Award Nominations! Open Until Sept. 14th
Replies to this post are screened, to keep all nominations confidential.

This is the post where you tell us what you liked in this round of [info]hp_tarot! We are soliciting your nominations for the best fic and best art, based on the qualities that *you* found most appealing. Nominations close: on September 14th at midnight Eastern USA time.

Best characterization? Best use of color? Most exciting plot? Most squee-worthy moment? Make your nominations based on what you liked best! If a fic or piece of art stood out for you as award-worthy, nominate based on the quality you liked, or simply say it was "the best"!

There is no specific limit on how many awards we give out, but I would guess at least 8 stories and 8 pieces of art should be recognised. This isn't a competition per se, it's a chance to recognize high quality and outstanding achievement. You may nominate as many contributions as you want!

I would especially appreciate if artists would nominate art as I don't know beans about it, honestly. Best composition? Most evocative? Best figure drawing? Tell me what pieces moved you and why they deserve to be recognized. Likewise with fic: most surprising pairing (that worked)? best AU? most beautiful prose style? Nominations are very freeform, so speak up if something caught your eye! You need not read or see EVERY post, just nominate the ones you did find worthy of note! (To see the previous awards we have given, see this post: http://community.livejournal.com/hp_tarot/36149.html)

We'll also give awards to the best commenter(s)! So please do comment on the fics and art you enjoy. Comment often and in depth if you can!

All awards will be in the form of a banner suitable for posting in one's userinfo. If anyone would like to volunteer to make the banners, please comment also. :-)

Under the cut, a list of possible categories, for those who really need them: )
