Author/Artist's Notes: This fic just did not want to happen. I must have tried about four scenarios before I found one I could actually find the words to write. I was stuck on this one too until I decided to write the first part from Oliver’s point of view. Thanks to R. for the beta and to K and D for the cheerleading and helping me get some ideas. Deborak, I hope this is something you don’t mind. It was certainly a challenge to write this instead of drawing.
Oliver moved out onto the West Lawn and drew a breath of fresh air. It cleared his head a bit. In hindsight, skipping dinner because he was running late for the fundraiser probably wasn't such a great idea. Then again, he doubted it would have been a problem if he hadn't volunteered for the knock-out boat races. He'd had six pints in half an hour and they weren't exactly sitting well on an empty stomach. He was sure he'd get told off about it later, but his team had won and they'd managed to raise a decent amount for St Mungo's.
He heard a familiar voice behind him and slowly turned around. He chuckled. Percy Weasley had managed to find some of the most important people at the party and was engrossed in what looked like a very serious discussion. He smiled. What with Quidditch practice starting up again and Percy's hours at the Ministry, they hadn't managed to see each other as much as Oliver would have liked. Percy was looking good though, his new bottle-green robes really suited him and the last of the light made his hair really glow.
He groaned low in his throat. His fingers itched to run through that hair. His mind supplied images of him striding over there, pushing Percy back against the outside wall of the ballroom and putting Percy's mouth to much better use. Audience or not. He shook his head. Ugh, it really had been too long since they'd been together.
"Ya getting old, Oli, can't handle your drink any more?"
Oliver turned to find several of his Puddlemere teammates had come up behind him.
"Grub's up," Bryn added as he threw his arm around Oliver's shoulder and dragged him off into the ballroom.

The Bally-Al Ball was a fundraiser for St. Mungo's and was certainly well attended. It had attracted some high ranking officials and politicians as well as the Quidditch players and celebrities. Percy couldn't help but take the opportunity to discuss the upcoming decisions of the Wizengamot. Things at the Ministry were really at a turning point and Percy was determined to earn back the respect he'd lost by being involved in the previous administration.
He was in the middle of discussing the new werewolf legislation with the heads of Magical Law Enforcement and Werewolf Support Services when he saw Oliver Wood stumble out of the ballroom. He smiled but tried to keep his attention on what Bedford was saying.
Percy had arrived in time to see the start of the boat races before moving out onto the lawn to meet up with Bedford and Jacobs so he wasn't surprised by Oliver's drunken gait.
He continued on with the conversation but found his mind kept wondering back to Oliver. It made it hard to concentrate on politics when he kept thinking back to the last time they'd been together. Percy was sure he was blushing but he refused to let his eyes drift over to Oliver and he managed to keep up his end of the conversation.

The next time Oliver saw Percy he was standing over near the drinks table talking to his brother Ron and Harry Potter. He grinned. He hadn't seen Harry since the clean up of Hogwarts after the last battle. It must have been six months at least. He walked over to them, picking up a drink on the way. He considered grabbing one for Percy too but thought better of it. He knew Percy liked to pretend they weren't together when they were in public. Especially in front of his family. It frustrated Oliver but he could understand why it was important to Percy.
"Harry, mate, how are you?" he asked, throwing his arm around Harry's shoulders. "Ron, Percy." He nodded at them. "How are the twins, and Charlie?"
The conversation continued on, turning to Quidditch and what they all thought of the Canons' chances this year and how fantastic the new Nimbus was meant to be. It wasn't until he was taking the last swig of his drink that he locked eyes with Percy and smiled. Percy turned a delightful shade of pink and shuffled uncomfortably. He chuckled and turned back to Ron and Harry in time to catch a shared look and a couple of raised eyebrows. Percy was frowning. If something had gone on though, he'd missed it. He thought he better move on though.
"Right, lads, I'm off to get me another drink and to make sure that Micum and Bryn haven't had their bollocks hexed off. Last I saw they were talking to a couple of the girls from the Harpies."

Percy left the conversation with Harry and Ron not terribly long after Oliver had swaggered off. He waved good bye to a couple of people from work and made his way to the back of the ballroom. He managed to catch Oliver's attention and nodded slightly towards the door and then went to collect his cloak.

Oliver saw that Percy was on his way out and made his goodbyes to his team mates. He grabbed another drink and downed it on the way to the empty Cloak Room. He left the empty bottle on a table and was just grabbing his cloak when Percy stepped up next to him.
"Bastard," Percy hissed good naturedly as he slipped his hand in to Oliver's. "Your place, and you're going to pay for that!"
Oliver couldn't keep the grin from his face as they Disapparated.
