WHO: Charlie Patenaude and Avery Weston
WHEN: January 9th, evening
WHERE: The Gas Station
WHAT: Just fillin' up before a long night of restful sleep, nothin' special. Not even important enough to use 'g's over.
WARNING: Blood, Stabbing and Death
The sun was beginning to set as Charlie strolled down the steps of the funeral home to his car. He would need to remind himself to turn the lights on when it actually started to get dark, since it was his habit to forget about the movements of the planet until he was hunched over the wheel and squinting. He also noted, as he twisted the key and watched the needles on his dash swing up, that he needed to get gas before he went home. Having to fill up before work in the morning would just add weight to the enormous stress ball situated snugly between his shoulders.
Everyone in his life seemed to be going through some kind of crisis (or a number of them one after the other, as the case may be) and event the general mood of the town seemed to have gone fowl. The man who'd replaced Gideon Fair at the bakery was an ornery bastard and it seemed like months since someone had smiled at him. The gloom of winter was starting to get to him again as well and he longed for the days of smothering his skin in sunlight and not looking as pale as the corpses he tended to. Charlie was tired; he needed a vacation and some change of scenery.
Lost in his thoughts, he almost missed the turn for the gas station but pulled left at the last moment in a sloppy, wide turn. His face flushed red as he parked by one of the dispenser boxes and prayed no one had seen that stunning example of poor driving. Shutting off the car and blowing out a breathe, he opened the door and waiting outside for the attendant. It was much easier to read lips from the same or similar eye level, plus it was just polite to get out, in Charlie's opinion.
