What: Scorpius has been thinking about what Marlene had said

Marlene had given him a lot to think about. Until their discussion, he had assumed that he'd be covered in scars for the rest of his life. Sure, they could work to make them a little less obvious, but they couldn't cure them. What Marlene was suggesting meant recreating his entire body. Except that it wouldn't be exactly his body, because spells weren't that perfect and it was better to be something else that trying to get it exactly right and botching it.

He'd never heard of it before, but then he supposed that for a few burns, people wouldn't consider changing who they were. He couldn't imagine Charlie Weasley losing his scars, for example. Of course, they could try to get as close to his look as possible and keep their fingers crossed. It was a possibility, but he could also be someone else.

For years, he'd played at being a woman, with dresses and make up. It had made him famous. The boy who could look like a boy or a girl. He'd walked down the catwalks for both styles. If he did what he was thinking of doing, he'd be boringly female, but would he be happier? Would she be happier?

Scorpius knew that he had to talk about it. Normally he'd have talked about it with Albus, but he was petrified at the moment, instead, he brought it up with his visitors.

"When this is done, we need to write to her, give her just enough to get her going. Sure Mr. Potter's head might explode, but it'll be fun." He could imagine that petrification was terrible. "You're still conscious. I think that's the worst part. It'd be so much better if you lost all consciousness."

He should have known that, but he wasn't thinking clearly. "I think you should go back home. If it's still there and spend at least a day there. I feel like some of the old families would have trusted their own house elves more than the Ministry's vault." They wouldn't want to share with the commoners was left unsaid. "I'm sure there'll be something exciting At least exciting for you." He didn't think that any of them had been lucky. "At least I'm not dying, and I can't believe I just said that. It sounds like something that one of the older generations would have said."

He bit the inside of his cheek. It seems so simple when Theo put it that way. "I've always seen a woman. Or a girl when I was little. It wasn't even a secret. I told Mother. She laughed, put some make-up on me and then never mentioned it again. There are just so many reasons why I shouldn't An heir, my career, Grandfather."

Theo's eyes widened with excitement and he grinned brightly. The idea did sound like a good bit of fun and he could keep that going for quite some time. "Needless to say I am on board for that. That sounds like a good cure for a boring day. " Petrification was a gruesome thought, and he shuddered slightly. "It's being trapped."

In an ideal situation he hoped he would return to find nothing. His home he had no doubt was still standing. He would have seen to that. But if there was anything to be found he'd hope to find a letter or some sort of writing. About his future self he had a lot of questions and a few concerns, and it seemed now was as good a time to consider how to best contend with that.

"We never had house elves. Father didn't have much trust in them, and I don't either to be honest. No ill will though, I'm just a little paranoid by nature. I just maybe might have some things to purge is all. I sometimes tend to push my luck a little when it comes to work I do on the side." He nodded in agreement. "You do sound like it, but we do know a thing or two."

"Then that's who you are, be who you are," he said without hesitation. "You can accept that and find some measure of fulfillment in life or live a life of compromise. And such a compromise will wear you down after time, and then it's nothing but regret."

There was a lot to consider. And that Scorpius was thinking about them all meant to Theo that he was very resolute in his desire to change. "If you marry insist they take your name. If you wish to pursue children by other means, let them have your family name. That can be fixed. So I wouldn't worry on that much. You can change your career to be women's fashions. It's less flexibility but who cares. If you like it, do it. As for your grandfather, I imagine that will be harder," he said with a shrug. "I could buffer some of that if you'd like. He does think well of me. But that will be harder. But Mr Malfoy has always put protecting his family above all else and he will adapt in time. He's adaptable, in enough measure to help in any case."

"We need to do it secretly. She needs to think that we're some kind of spies for her, because that's how we'll get her to write all sort of outlandish stuff. I know what they think, about bad publicity and the Confederation, but I think if we get public opinion on our side, then we're in a better position." He certainly didn't like the sound of that. "We need to talk about gossip more and petrification less. It sounds terrible."

He raised an eyebrow. "You? Paranoid? I'm shocked. I never would have guessed," he teased. "I doubt that anyone here cares at this point. What are they going to do? Send the Aurors after you for something that your future self did? This must be boring. No rules to break." Theo seemed to be the type who needed the rules to find ways around them. "And we do, but is this how it starts? You do this long enough and start thinking like them?"

Scorpius smiled. "You make it sound so very easy. Maybe it is. Maybe I'm just scared." Although he was sure that his fears about his grandfather were justified. "You find it normal, don't you? Not everyone will be so accepting, not even here with so few people. Men especially." He really wished he could talk to Al about it and see what he thought, but it was a good sign to see that Theo was taking it so well.

"I am very good at keeping secrets," he said with a contented sigh. "And talking my way around things so I feel it is doable. People will likely assume it's me that is the leak, if they assume there is one. I have been somewhat vocal in my appreciation for sensational media," he said with a chuckle. "But suspicion isn't the same as proof. Any press is good press when you've been swept under the rug, so I am inclined to agree. And yes, it is terrible so let's not dwell too long there," he said with a small nod. "In fact, let's shelf it now."

Theo didn't think the law would magic itself out of thin air and come down on him any time soon for his future, which was now in the past. Which was a funny thought. He did think it wise to make sure all his affairs were tucked away, removed or put into good working order. "I do want to help here. I am who I am and do things as I do them and pursue the things I want in the way I do. That being said, knowing someone has done less than savory things and suspecting are not one and the same. I don't generally garner a great deal of faith in people, so anything that might hamper the things I feel I need to do, to improve our lot, that needs resolving." Theodore just smiled softly. "There are always rules to break."

He couldn't help but laugh a little. "You say them like it doesn't include me as well. Although, and I say this not to be unkind, a little of our way of thinking might have served you well," he said calmly and evenly. "What happened was undeserved but in the circumstances we are in, it would do many well and not just yourself, to stop and think, what would the paranoid generation do?"

Theo could imagine it was scary. Definitely intimidating and daunting and his concerns about his grandfather were surely justified. His offer to help though was genuine, and would be given asked for or not. "Yes. I do," he said without hesitation. "It should be noted that I am hardly the measure by which normalcy is dictated. I know I am a different sort." He said in good humor, with a small laugh. "Not every one will. Those who matter will accept and adapt in time and the rest, well. Fuck them, really. Your father will accept it, I know that's true. Draco has always been unconditional with those he has affection for. I'd say your generation will be as well. People can surprise you at times, so I wouldn't count them all out. It just might take it's time."

"So what are you going to change?" He asked with a hint of excitement in his voice. "What do you really look like?"

"That's not necessarily a good thing, you understand that right? Not in a society that is made up of twenty-five people," he said, gently. "I don't have to talk myself into anything and you shouldn't either. If you don't want to, then you shouldn't." He snorted. "Suspicion is as good as proof around here, but I can agree about the international stage. We need something to press them, although I can't really blame them, considering what's happening in this castle at this very moment."

Scorpius smiled. "It really kills you to do things how they are meant to be done, doesn't it? You enjoy driving people crazy with the vagueness." He rested his head back, snorting. "Do you really think that with someone like Mr. Potter knowing and proving are any different? I'm not telling you what to do, but consider how harder life can be if you have him on your case. He comes with a lot of people. On the other hand, I don't think he'd punish you for something that you would have done in your future. He's rather fair that way."

That was true, Scorpius never associated Theo - this Theo - to his father's generation. "You don't sound like them. They are all about rules and survival. You are about causing mischief. If you were a Norse god, you'd be Loki, while Mr. Potter would be Thor." The warning wasn't unwarranted. "I know, I've told myself how stupid I am plenty of time. I will not pet strange creatures in the future."

Scorpius laughed. "I'm not normal either. I've been wearing women's clothes since I was a child. I just- I keep going back and forth in my head, and Dad is pretty awesome." He hoped that Draco would say no, though. It would make the choice easier.

"Not too different from what I was. I know that it's never going to be exactly the same, but close enough. The problem is that close to before can go either way." This was much easier when it was just a dream.

"It might not be a good thing but I guarantee it will be a fun thing," he said all too happy to proceed. "I'm in and really if everyone is looking at me, who is watching anyone else?" He said feeling rather pleased by the idea. It was likely to yield some results and that added to his interest, but mostly it felt exhilarating. "We manage to pull a few heartstrings and people get up in arms, then they have to at the least extend some aid. I truly doubt they will come here or invite any of us round, not for quite some time. Still, it will push things. We could use a little momentum."

Unable not to smile he couldn't help the wide grin that lit up his weary face. "I don't really try that it sort of just happens that way. It's my nature. I do from time to time do so for sport that much is true." He almost rolled his eyes at the mention of the Minister, but just shrugged instead. "You know, I think I could speak on the other side of the castle and Potter would somehow sense it and still be annoyed. So I generally don't factor him into much of what I do. I do hear what your saying, but it's not an immediate concern of mine. It's just cleaning house."

"Oh I am different to be sure, but the same in some ways. I've just learned to make a game of it. It's far less depressing a fate that way," he said happily. He couldn't help but feel terribly complimented by the comparison. "Thank you, that's actually very flattering. For me at least. I rather like it," he said thoughtfully. "Malfoys and their preening birds," he said with a chortle. "Shit happens. Let's just proceed with that idea that everything wants to kill you, and be pleasantly surprised when most times it turns out false."

Normal was boring and predictable and all the most interesting and significant people were usually anything but. He knew how that felt though, being outside the norm. "Your father is one of my favorite people, with good reason. He'll accept anything you chose." He said listening to not only what Scorpius said but what he didn't. "Just be sure. Man, woman, or linger in the grey areas. If it's what you want, just reach out and take it. Just be sure it's all your bargained for."

"And we need fun right now. Oh who am I kidding? The world always needs fun, especially with all the doom-and-gloom types around here. I get the reason, but I'll teach them to enjoy life." The smoke-and-mirror approach might just work and Savannah had proven that if you pushed enough, someone would answer. Maybe that should be their goal. "We'll need Savannah's help. She hates writing, but she's good at saying what people need to hear. People want to please her because they don't want to disappoint them."

Scorpius laughed. "Exactly, that's Loki's nature, too just like Mr. Potter's nature is to fight against injustice and protect the weak like Thor. I would try to make it work though. On the other hand, now he has a new enemy, so you should be all right for a while."

He could hardly see the similarities, but he also knew that Slytherins hid what they didn't want others to see very well, s o he didn't dismiss it. "I'm glad you enjoy the comparison." Regardless of how brutal the attack was, he had to laugh. "I'll stick to white peacocks, thank you very much, but I'll see what I can do about changing my approach to life." He'd never worried about things killing him.

"I'm not sure, that's the problem. I don't want to linger in between, because I've been doing it already. I want to be both and I don't know how to do it. I'm no metamorphmagus. If I were, then it wouldn't be a problem, but is there anything that can let me do the same?"

"The world always needs more fun," he said with a chuckle. It really would be a fun way to pass the time, he wagered. He didn't mind running people around on some sort of misleading chase. In fact he felt it's appeal far outweighed whatever good it would likely do. "Is it wise to include Savannah?" He questioned, knowing her approach would likely yield optimum results. Still he had to ask, since he was whimsically volunteering to be schemes scapegoat. "You sure she won't sell us out?" He liked to think not, but still it had to be asked.

"I do sometimes try, but it tends to fall apart," he said with a small smile. "It's just so easy," he said and a little gratifying and a sure cure for boredom. "I could try harder, sure," he said doubtfully. "Although that is very convenient."

He nodded. "See that you do try," he advised.

That would be a neat trick, he thought silently. he had read some sort of paper that floated around the DoM back in his time, he hadn't thought of it in such a long time that he had almost forgotten. "I have no idea exactly. But I did once read something about a muggle tribe in Zimbabwe called the Shona. They worshiped a god who was both male and female. They could be either at will. There was some evidence I believe that there was magic at play. A false messiah, with an unusual spell. Don't know if that would help, but it may be a good place to start."

"She won't. She's more likely to take the blame and then convince everyone that it was a great idea and people will end up thanking her for it, while they would have hexed anyone else," he said, with a laugh. "She's got a way with people. They seldom want to disappoint her, and it works because most of it is genuine. She's not trying to use it; it just comes naturally."

He snorted. "Right, but at least you try, that's the important thing." His grandparents would disagree. They believed that trying was not enough, but that was also why his grandfather never recovered from his failure with the dark lord.

"It makes sense that it started with some wizard. They have such powerful school there. All the students are animagi by forth year, they don't use wands. They are so much more advanced than us. Maybe that's where we should look. Not the Muggle world, but the African school." He might have to get someone to get in touch with the African wizarding community.
